ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?
Roda replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would venture to say that you react to the avenin the protein in oats. I first tried Bobs gluten free oats after I had been gluten free for 7 months. It was HORRIBLE. I had reflux withing 30 minutes, then for two days had horrible abdominal pain, broke out in a pimply itchy rash on my back side and was constipated for a week. Never again did I eat them... -
A complete thyroid panel includes a TSH, free T3, free T4 and the thyroid antibody tests. In some cases a rT3(reverse T3) may be ordered. On the last test though good luck even finding an endo to know what to do with it. You can have a "normal" TSH and have hypo/hyper symptoms. When I presented to my current endocrinologist I was having hypo symptoms...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had Negative Aga But Positive Ttg/ema/dgp Values
Roda replied to alicewa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My youngest son was negative on his IgA/IgG gliadin antibodies, but was positive on his IgA tTG. His value was 16 with 0-15 being negative. We didn't do a biopsy. He had terrible symptoms when we gluten challenged him. -

Hey Tom, I responded to your post in this topic. It's pretty detailed. Sounds like you have a smart doctor! -
ARCHIVED One Sided Headache/pressure?
Roda replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had headaches like you describe for years, going back as far as teenager(the pain though was not into my neck and shoulder, that has developed in the last several years). Last year they were becoming worse and more frequent, so at my hubsband's insistance, I brought it up to my doctor. To her she said they sounded like a mixture between a migraine... -
Hi Tom. It sounds like you are a bit overwhelmed. I'm in Greeneville and you'd be suprised, for the area, how many options/products/stores are available. Just where I live I have access to two health food stores, two mennonite stores, and can find speciality products at Food City and Ingals. I also make trips up to JC to Earthfare. There also is another...

I couldn't agree with you more! No one cares about ettique and manners anymore. I am trying to instill this to my boys. For example when I take my son to get his allergy shots (he goes twice a week) there are many other doctor offices in the building. Almost everytime we go there there are people, especially elderly people entering the building. I have...

ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!
Roda replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was taking the 5 mcg from paddock and was fine taking two at a time. I suppose that the different dosages could differ. I'm now taking the brand name Cytomel 25 mcg. I have found I am able to tolerate that dosage if I split it and take it twice a day (better really to keep blood concentrations more level). I had been taking a total of 25 mcg of the... -

ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over
Roda replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Awhile ago hubby recieved an invitation to a pig roast. He debated even telling me about the invitation, because he knows that our two boys and I can not eat the food. I told him to accept the invitation because I want to socialize with people and that we rarely do anything. My husband the butcher, is bringing me home a pork butt and I am going to smoke... -
Husband and 6 year old: yogrit = yogurt My 6 year old when he was a toddler: garjib = garbage he was facinated with the garbage man and the garbage can. He still likes to pick up random "stuff" when we are out and about. My 10 year old when he was in the 1st grade: N = Ian There was a new kid that came and he came home and told me there was...

Yeah, my Dad is like that. It really grates me. He will sarcastically say to me while I am eating something "Are you sure that's gluten free" or when I make meals for them he'll ask me if he can "have a side of gluten." Ignorant behavior, even if he is my father. I just wish he would go gluten free(I think he has celiac too), but that is a lost cause...

ARCHIVED 100% Gluten Free And Still Symptomatic
Roda replied to IWannaSammich's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While xanthan gum can be derived from various grains and even whey, from what I can find, is that xanthan gum is gluten free and made mostly from corn.(someone else chime in if my information is wrong) It is gluten free also. However, one can still have a sensitivity to both. -
ARCHIVED 100% Gluten Free And Still Symptomatic
Roda replied to IWannaSammich's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may also want to consider the possibility that you may be reacting to gluten free products also. There are many on here that react to even levels found in them. There are some of us that can not tolerate any oats even gluten free ones or eat gluten free products that have cross contamination from them. What about pets? If you have pets you may... -
ARCHIVED Ate A Mars Bar Which Contains Barley Malt
Roda replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I equate it to putting your hand on a hot stove. In your mind you know it will hurt and burn you. But some times you have to actually touch the stove and get burned for it to "sink in." If you associate something with pain then you are less likely to do it again. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!
Roda replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Skylark I have taken all three of those brands you mentioned and don't recall any problems with them at the time. I started out on cytomel before it went generic. Then when it went generic, my insurance switched me. First was on Paddock then Mylan was subbed for one or two 3 month refills and then the pharm switched back to the Paddock. I decided... -
ARCHIVED Advice Needed On How To Start A Gluten Free Diet
Roda replied to Curlyqueen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You will want to replace/get another, when the budget allows: cutting boards, wooden utensils, toaster, pasta strainer, waffle iron, worn/scratched cookware/bakeware. I replaced all baking items, herb/spices, and condiments that may have been cross contaminated. I went through my pantry, and things the gluten eater in the house wouldn't eat I donated to... -

I know the brand name of Cytomel is manufactured by King Pharmaceuticals. Paddock and Mylan also make generic liothyronine. -
ARCHIVED Getting Desperate For Answers
Roda replied to tdogg097's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would get those previous test results ASAP! With those in hand I think it should be an automatic refferal to the GI and scope sooner rather than later. I'm so sorry that someone dropped the ball and didn't tell you of the positive celiac tests two years ago. I would call and tell them how miserable you are. Ask to be put on a cancellation list to get... -
ARCHIVED Being Tested For Celiac Disease
Roda replied to scifigirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think going low carb "triggered" your issues. IMHO, when you went gluten light by avoiding the things you mentioned, your body wasn't under the constant attack like before. Upon reintroduction the immune system went into overdrive against the gluten. I inadvertantly went gluten light while I breastfed my youngest son for the first 12 months. I... -
The mixes have a "may contain traces" warning for wheat and other ingredients on the package. That doesn't even cover gluten free. Anyway I was looking at some of the ingredients on the powders and when I looked them up what I found was interesting. I ended up on a site that uses all kinds of gelling agents etc for modern cooking or gastrology. Mind you...

I was thinking of getting it for his birthday next month. He and his friends could make the food experiments at his party. Sounds pretty fun. I will get it now and set the actual zombie head aside so I don't contaminate it. It will also give me time to mix up the "experiments" in a glass bowl and come up with alternatives. I've been looking online...

Well, I just got off the phone with the customer service people. All the mixes for all the kits are from a facility that handles wheat and gluten. For the kits that have molds for bugs etc. Jello could be used. I'll have to ponder some more. I may have to experiment in the kitchen. I hate if for him. He really wants this.
-
My son wants a Dr. Dreadful Zombie Lab really bad. I have no idea if the ingredients in the food packets for the experiments are gluten free(probably not). I did however, pick up a kit at the toy store(maybe not the same one, not sure) and it did have wheat listed, so we didn't get it. Anyone have any experience with this and gluten free replacements?...
