Once again I have gotten into poison ivy. I got it for the first time the summer of 2005 and have had it every year since. Until I got it the first time, I was stupid enough to think I was immune. Mind you I never went near it knowingly, just never had it. Well, let me tell you summer of 2005 was horrible. I was cleaning out the woods in my back yard...

ARCHIVED Edoscopy Results
Roda replied to darkhorse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The GI doc took a biopsy of my stomach also during my EGD as well as the six samples from my first part of the small intestine. The stomach biopsy is checking for H pylori a bacteria that can cause a lot of trouble. I am uncertain of the treatment, but I think antibiotics for a period of time, but don't hold me to that. I did not have a biopsy of the esophagus... -
I just looked up my latest thyroid labs again. TSH 0.05 (0.34-5.60) I know this range is outdated for endocrinologists although still on the low side, free T4 1.16 (0.58-1.64) and T3 uptake 41.40% (32.00-48.40). Free T3 was forgotten this go around since the gyn ordered these for me while I was at his office and was having symptoms. The endocrinologist...

ARCHIVED What Is Whey Protien?
Roda replied to rainewhitlock1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Traditional buttermilk is the liquid left over from churning butter. There is available cultured buttermilk that has the good bacteria like in yogurt. Whey is the liquid left over from making yogurt and cheese. -
I have been buying alot of marked down produce lately and have been getting some pretty good stuff. I had a whole bunch of organic pears I purchased that were not getting eaten fast enough. My four year old actually gave me the idea to make muffins out of them when we were mixing up banana bread. I found this recipe and I thought I would share. They turned...

ARCHIVED Easy Recipe For gluten-free Muffins?
Roda replied to Pegleg84's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'll second that on the bean flours. I have used Tom Sawyer Flour and Better Batter Flour. I liked both, but I'm going to stick with the Better Batter. I too just convert all my old recipes. I have found that I sometimes have to add a little more liquid than I did before. Gluten free flours love to soak up liquid. One of my favorite things is banana... -
You need to get a full thyroid panel done that includes a tsh, t3, t4, free t3, free t4, and blood test for thyroid antibodies. You could have hashimoto's disease. A lot of doctors don't like to treat for thyroid problems if the lab range is upper normal for ie tsh. Endocrinologists have accepted that the level for tsh is more narrow. I don't have the...

So far everyone is leaning toward too much thyroid medication this go around. In Feb 06 when this started I ended up in the ED twice. The second time they told me that if the meds they had given me hadn't worked to bring my heartrate down they were going to shock it back to normal. Glad it worked! I saw a cardiologist at that time until May of 06. ...

I started a batch in the crockpot yesterday at 2:30pm. I followed the directions, and when I got home this morning I had yogurt. I was suprised. This is the first time I have made it. I think I will try a couple of things differently next batch. I am going to try and add about a 1/2 cup of the dry milk instead of the package of unflavored gelatin and...

I'm going to give this a try in the crock pot too. We go through so much yogurt. I guess we will see.

ARCHIVED Toasted Millet Pilaf
Roda replied to sickchick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried this tonight. I did like the flavor of this but was not fond of the consistency. I like the millet less creamy. I like it drier and more firm. I guess I could cut back on the broth. -
Well, finally today I got this whole mess straightened out. I called on Monday and asked to speak to the office manager. I ended up leaving three voice mails and she never called me back. So I called again on Tuesday and asked to speak to someone in administration. I actually spoke to a human being and she referred me to the office nursing supervisor...

ARCHIVED I Just Got My Antibody Levels Back
Roda posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just got my lab test results back for my antibodies today. My IgA ttg was 10 reference range 0-19 with anything over 19 being positive. My initial one back in Sept. 08 was 72 (I think) with the same reference range. I was pretty happy with that. However, I never had the the Gliadin peptide Ab, IgA and IgG done initially. I did have it done this time... -
No the GI doctor's office is good. It is just the endocrinologist office that dropped the ball. I hope they don't do this to others.

Yes I have been gluten free since October 30, 2008. Mind you for the first month or so it was a learning curve. Since I have only been glutened twice that I know of. Same here on the iron, normal blood circulating levels and not anemic since h & h are normal, just the stored iron (ferritin). I keep getting told that it shouldn't be causing...

I think I will try and make some phone calls today. If I can't get anywhere I guess I will have to go there. It is in the next town so it will be about a 40 min drive. Maybe then they will take me seriouslly. I am going to ask around and try and find a new endocrinologist though.

ARCHIVED Jerusalem Artichoke Flour
Roda posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been reading about jersulam artichoke flour and would love to try and incorporate it into some recipes. However, I am finding it difficult to find. I would make my own but I don't have anywhere I can grow them. Anyone use it? If so where do you buy it? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Advice For A Father!
Roda replied to Storm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unless he has specific food allergies/intolerances himself, there shouldn't be any reason he can't eat what you eat. All of my meals are made gluten free and there have been no complaints yet. If my kids ( age 8 & 4) want gluten containing items their dad and them have there own space in the pantry and on the counter. There are times when they get... -
ARCHIVED Refractory Sprue, Not Getting Better After 6 Yrs Of gluten-free....
Roda replied to momof6incfl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I definately would have the EGD done to look for an ulcer in your stomach. Coffee ground emesis (vomit) is not normal and usually indicates bleeding somewhere. -
ARCHIVED Rice Chex Recipes
Roda replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here is the site for chex with recipes. Open Original Shared Link They have a section for gluten free recipes and now that the corn chex and some of the others are gluten free alot of these recipes can be made accordingly. Hopefully they will update. Also, with the exception of the wheat chex, alot of the other recipes can be adapted and things... -
I made a phone call on Thursday morning to the endocrinologist's office. The secretary could not help me so I got forwarded to the voicemail. I left a message that I would like my labs reviewed by the doc and faxed ASAP to the GI doc. I also said it made an almost pointless appointment for me and I would appreciate if they would call me back on the matter...

I'm sorry that both of you are having a hard time. You will have a period of emotional adjustment. I work full time on night shift (12 hr shifts) and I do know how hard it can be to have to cook every night. Thankfully I already made majority of our meals at home. My husband will cook some also. The time it gets frustrating for me is when I get off from...

ARCHIVED Having A Kids Halloween Party
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

My husband, mother in law, and myself just started a tradition last October to host a kid's halloween party. Last year I had not got my biopsy results back yet so I fixed and ate what I wanted. This year I want to at least make the food gluten free so I can enjoy myself without the possibility of cross contamination, let alone bring in a buch of gluten...
