My first episode with what we thought was CC in the early days turned out to be soy instead of gluten. I was ready to go to the hospital it was that bad. Add me to the list of soy haters. CS

ARCHIVED Carnivor Beef-Based Protein Powder
chasbari replied to Philadelphia's topic in Sports and Fitness
I am off on an obtuse track when it comes to using my prototypes for my workouts. I was doing everything I could to ramp up the workout including developing negative upload apparatus on things like my Duo squat machine, etc. Now, I use only resistance and a certain protocol as outlined and taught by my friends at Renaissance Exercise. I have returned to a... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have Ra Or Myositis Or Lupus
chasbari replied to shayre's topic in Sports and Fitness
I have RA, Sjogren's and my lupus indicators were very high although my doc felt I didn't have it. It was so bad before my DX for celiac that I had given up on exercise for many years. Got very weak. I might add that I am male and the incidence of these autoimmune diseases is about ten times more likely for women.. unless you happen to be celiac.. I think... -

ARCHIVED Carnivor Beef-Based Protein Powder
chasbari replied to Philadelphia's topic in Sports and Fitness
Agreed on the frozen fruits and veggies. Plain and simple and cheap throughout the year as well. It's all about reasonable balance. I think that carbs are maybe the worst thing when trying to gain lean mass. It almost seems like I crave fats when I have been hit by something in my diet. Seems to make recovery happen more quickly. JOY! Last evening my wife and I went out on a date for the first time in the years since my diagnosis. We went with my son's future in-laws to check out the party center where their wedding reception will be later this year. They were having a dinner and show with a select menu. For some reason we were rushed and I didn't have a chance to check in advance...

ARCHIVED Carnivor Beef-Based Protein Powder
chasbari replied to Philadelphia's topic in Sports and Fitness
I am going to go against the grain here a bit and say that I have added the fats back into my diet to good effect. I am very lean now after having gone grain free and find that my workout recovery and lean tissue gain are enhanced by eating whole eggs and fats on things like the prime rib I had last night. In fact, I used to hate fat when I was eating so... -
We really do go against the grain, don't we?

Open Original Shared Link FWIW here is a link to a discussion/log of my recovery through exercise. Over the years I have been developing some exercise prototypes. I had to give it up a number of years ago due to the severity of my RA and then, eventually celiac. Once I was properly diagnosed and started getting my life back I was able to begin working...

ARCHIVED Resistant To Weight Loss
chasbari replied to mbrookes's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think the thing that really stuck with me is the overwhelming presence of metabolic syndrome. I watched a nephew go through onset of severe diabetes this past summer and the mechanics of how that could happen as explained in the movie made so much sense to me. I find myself thinking in retrospect of how my celiac disease was manifesting in weight gain the... -
It does provide some compelling arguments. I have actually watched it a few times in the last week and pick up more and more each time. The whole commodities slant on US agriculture along with the whole grain high carb trend in the dietary shift in this country sure seems to mirror the upward trend in celiac... I think it comes down to finding a realistic...

Closest I have come on the probiotics is Nutrition Now PB8 with the green cap which contains "no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Contains no wheat (gluten), eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy or salt. Dairy Free." It can be found at a number of stores as well as on line and is not too expensive. I agree about the whole lectin issue. I have to be...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have Ra Or Myositis, Lupus
chasbari replied to shayre's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I tried rice early on and was having major issues with blood sugar regulation as well as continued joint pain. It was only when I went totally grain and nightshade free that my RA seemingly disappeared. Even my hands seem to be less deformed than they used to be as a result. -
ARCHIVED Resistant To Weight Loss
chasbari replied to mbrookes's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Check out the movie "Fathead" on HULU to better understand the role of carbs and insulin resistance as it pertains to fat loss. Granted, the style of delivery may not suit many but once you get into the thing you begin to understand his delivery. I was getting more and more overweight before my DX and when I went replacement diet gluten-free didn't lose any... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have Ra Or Myositis, Lupus
chasbari replied to shayre's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Originally DX'ed with RA, Sjogren's Syndrome, high Lupus indicators but Doc didn't feel it was actually full blown, also Reynaud's as well before finally DX'ed celiac. Once treated with very strict no grain diet all others have gone into remission to greater and lesser degrees. Still have chronic dry eyes from SS but the RA is so much better and I take no... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Taking Methotrexate For Ra
chasbari replied to shayre's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
They had me on Enbrel and Methotrexate for severe RA symptoms before I was DX'ed with celiac. I went on gluten-free diet at first with lots of breads and cookies and stuff and saw no real change. Went Paleo and within forty hours went from a morning gel time of 2 or more hours to being able to hit the ground running. I have to add that I took myself off the... -
I'm actually upset enough about this that I would do something radical like go press attempted murder charges and take it to court. I know, I know, just a ridiculous notion but..... Level heads should and will prevail. I hope you are able to make your sister and her husband understand the seriousness of this. The child is so vulnerable in this case and will...

I second this notion. I think it is time, in light of the knowledge we do have by now, that horrible misinformation of this nature needs to be addressed vigorously. Maybe if one doctor is made an example of and the facts are able to be set straight, others might eventually get the message. ... well. I can always have big dreams, can't I? CS

ARCHIVED Suggestions For Probiotics
chasbari replied to ECUmom3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nutrition Now PB8. I have found it cheap at the Vitamin Shoppe in our area. The green lid is the one that is gluten free ad has no "eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy or salt. Dairy Free." No worse and maybe a little better since starting it. I take two a day so a 120 count bottle lasts me 2 months and runs right around $15.00, I think. CS -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Had Negative Bloodwork, But Positive Biopsy?
chasbari replied to Bis-quit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Me. Negative blood work, very positive biopsy done because of overwhelming anecdotal evidence that suggested that we needed to go in this direction plus a very cooperative and understanding physician. -
ARCHIVED Did You Have A Trigger That Started Your Symptoms?
chasbari replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hugs to you. The first thought that went through my mind with this was to wonder if gluten and celiac had any thing to do with your mother's attempted suicide. I had a maternal aunt who, in hindsight, I feel was probably plagued by complications due to undiagnosed celiac. I wish I could get genetic testing done on the whole family but wonder just what impact... -
ARCHIVED Staying Active/fit And Weight Loss After Going gluten-free?
chasbari replied to JonnyD's topic in Sports and Fitness
I had to go strictly grain free when diagnosed and dropped weight very rapidly. Lost most of my body fat but was in bad shape due to the severity of gut damage. Tried to workout too soon relative to recovery and really couldn't tolerate it. Dropped forty pounds in a hurry and have been struggling for two plus years to gain muscle mass back. Slowly but surely... -
ARCHIVED Those Who Cant Eat Nightshade Vegetables - Cracking Lips, Pus-Filled Pimples?
chasbari replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Nightshades for me equals severe rheumatoid arthritis flares. The kind that make it hard to stand or walk or generally function like a human being. I stay away from them now. -
Sorry you don't have anything else?! This is a show I would watch.. you could start a new series called "The Gluten Detectives" and I would watch every episode. I am going to go back and take notes on all these suggestions. Excellent post. CS

ARCHIVED No Disability, Can't Work...
chasbari replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can only say I relate to your plight. I have started to grow my studio again but the one on one teaching is rather intense as to energy and I have all I can handle and it isn't enough. I wish I had some suggestions for you but I am looking for solutions as well. I currently have 24 students and it is almost too much.
