  1. I think this is the third bag I've tried and they always smell fine until I actually mix them into a batter (cookies, pies, etc). Then it smells funny. I can't put my finger on the smell. I'm wondering if it's the garbanzo beans? Or do I keep getting bad bags? I always store in the freezer and this bag says exp 4/2014 but my aunt brought it for me so idk...
  2. I attempted to go to the doctor yesterday, only to show up for my appointment and find that our insurance had lapsed. So no doctors for me until we get more. This stressed me out even more. But I decided to take the whole day off - I actually turned off my computer and phone and posted online that I wouldn't return emails or calls until today. It was great...
  3. Today I feel even worse. I had nightmares all night about have D in places where there was no decent bathroom. Then I woke up shaky and dry mouth and I'm nearly hyperventilating. I feel weak and sick and like I'm going to have to go to the toilet again. My husband won't entertain the idea that this is anything other than stress. I don't know why it feels...
  4. That is the plan starting now. Part of the problem is that I do a lot of my work from home so the lines get blurred... even when I take a "day off" I end up in front of the computer working most of the day. I don't really know what to do with myself if I'm not working. I am trying to figure that out. I have all day free tomorrow except for the celiac support...
  5. I actually didn't realize that I was working THAT much until I started getting upset stomachs and my husband said it was stress. I did the math and realized that I am. But my job is FUN so it doesn't always feel like work. But I do only two things - sleep and work. I eat dinner in front of my computer and return emails, etc. in bed first thing when I wake...
  6. Short intro - after 25 years of constant sickness I was diagnosed celiac. Two years and 3 months later I have been gluten free and healthy and happier than I ever knew was possible. For the first time ever I am able to live a semi-normal life. In the beginning I learned the hard way about getting glutened by roommatees, restaurants and from makeup products...
  7. I disagree with the statement that "most people don't eat corn." I am the only person I know with this problem in my circle of friemds amd colleagues. And it definitely is an issue because it's in nearly everything :/ I guess it will be a matter of experimenting with my own tolerance level. Sigh. Thank you for the website suggestion bartfull, I will check...
  8. After almost two years of being gluten free and getting that totally under control I finally figured out what my one lingering issue was- I don't do we'll with corn products. I ate a lot of tortillas, tortilla chips, corn cereal, etc. before realizing this. I don't have a true allergy, I was tested and had no reaction and my symptoms are digestive rather...
  9. Thank you! I wanted to use some of my roommates Halls but wasn't sure about them. I also bought Fisherman's Friend which I know now are gluten and allergen free.
  10. I was up all night last night with an irritating cough and found myself in dire need of some sort of losenge. Any gluten free favorites?
  11. Thankfully neither corn nor soy seem to cause a problem for me. I believe that sugar is a problem and it seems to be the addiction that is hardest for me to kick.
  12. Have any of you tried this and has it helped? I have read such conflicting information about it. I feel that it would be very difficult for me to follow but at this point I'm willing to try anything. I know that I am gluten free and free of cross contamination. I am not having any of the brain fog symptoms or other symptoms that I get and my antibody levels...
  13. Any other celiacs out there have experience with Lupron? I just started injections for my endometriosis last Monday - 8 days ago. A few days later I started having issues with sort of loose stool (sorry). I wouldn't call it diarrhea but its definitely not solid the way I'm used to. I am trying to figure out if its a side effect from the Lupron or if its because...
  14. I agree with gatita, after so many accidental glutenings and setbacks last year I always prefer to be safe rather than sorry. I don't even consider oats. I have had quinoa pasta with no issues three times in the past year and a half but this definitely gives me pause. The leader of our CSA support group said that you could call the manufacterer to see what...
  15. Our group leader is back from her trip now so here is the link for anyone that was curious. It looks like a couple of the varieties of quinoa don't have gluten but cause an immune reaction. Open Original Shared Link
  16. Thanks I will have my husband taste test them since he is not celiac and none of the others at the party will be either. I usually don't take a new recipe to a gathering like that, everybody prefers my cupcakes but like I said, I completely spaced this!
  17. I am allergic to peanuts so no peanut butter in this household! I made the cookies before I noticed the expiration. I did smell the mix before I baked them after it was already mixed up and it didn't smell like anything at all. I think I will just toss them though, I hate to worry about these things.
  18. I have to go to a party in a couple of hours and forgot until last minute that I'm supposed to bring an appetizer. I grabbed a Hodgson Mills cookie mix out of the pantry and whipped it up real quick. Then I noticed that the expiration date on the package is 9/12/12 i think. It's not clearly marked but on the bottom of the box there's a code that says 9...
  19. I just got home from my monthly CSA support group meeting and it was reported there that Pepsi and Coke and other cola products, while technically gluten free actually test at 18ppm because of the carmel coloring. I understand that anything under 20 ppm can be considered gluten free but a lot of us react to that level. I am curious to any information or experiences...
  20. I don't have any reaults from when I was at my sickest. Only from about 6 years ago long before I finally actually got a diagnosis. (Long story). But it seems that my levels are really low. Does anybody ever get all the way to zero? Does the fact that I have trace amounts of antibodies mean I am getting glutened somehow or is this good?
  21. The range that it considers "normal" I believe is the range that Kaiser sets. I don't know if that's standard though and I also don't know why they are in decimals instead of whole numbers?
  22. My results are in decimals which is what confused me. It says IgG should be <0.9 and mine is 0.15 and the IgA should be <0.9 and mine is 0.26
  23. I'm sorry that was supposed to say a year and a half. I am posting from an iPhone.
  24. Hi! After a year and analog of being gluten free and almost a year with no cross contamination, I finally got health insurance again (yea!) and was able to get my antibodies tested again to see how I'm doing. I just got my results but I am completely clueless as to what good numbers and bad numbers would be! Can anybody help?
