  1. Me too! Bought my Mom one last Christmas because "alll her friends have kindles" - figured I'd wait to see if she actually used. She hasn't much but now my Dad whom has never touched a computer wants to learn - uggg Brought it home to learn its quirks better before I attempt to train Dad - pray that we both survive those lessons without smashing the...
  2. What? I've read many sources that list the gliadin test as tests for gluten intolerance - while many others site as the first celiac antibody to rise/fall in corelation with gluten ingestion, but never (that I recall) gluten allergy. If incosistancies are found at any celiac center - I'd look to UofMaryland. I know that there have been incosistancies...
  3. I think that is a great plan -- I never hand docs anything but medical journal papers The reason I have lists of symptoms, questions and tests in hand during appointments is to make sure I don't forget details or to ask questions. I let them know I had pictures when I started taking pics of rashes and they did want to see those...you just never know...
  4. YES!! My son's gerd presented with chronic cough at age 8....took several years for them to determine he was aspirating into his lungs while he slept which caused a chronic cough. We tried treating gerd unsuccessfully for many years...until I was finally diagnosed with Celiac -- he decided to remove gluten after negative blood tests because of several...
  5. If Patty gets a Pony...I want one too - well I'll take a horse if our Sire has a spare one hanging about his paddock oops Patti...went right back to jealousy of a cousin Patt-y
  6. This is the college student mantra. Shadow - should you ever get really stuck - I think you have at least a half dozen editors ready with their red, green or purple pens to be relentless
  7. Hi Amelia- A military doctor - as well as many other docs respond well to preparation. When is your appointment? List of symptoms. List of necessary tests - both celiac and nutrient If needed a few print outs from top Celiac Centers. Never hurt. Let us know if you would like a few items to bring along to your appointment.
  8. Absolutely...we all have different symptoms, presentation to docs, testing results, healing speeds and so many more differences -- the wonderful thing is we have the frustration in common -- this allows us to bounce ideas off each other -- this forum and many compassionate members like GFinDC have made an important difference for me more times than I can...
  9. K...bbq sounds great -- might want to redo tomorrow -- is the weather we had up north headed there? added a new chocolate mint wafer cookie to the almond arsenal -- fine tuning then I'll share - yummy, but can be improved
  10. Love the new picture...thinking I should send my palm tree cookie cutter East to make Santa scratch his whiskers as he wonders why he is getting identical cookies in different parts of the country Good Luck Dee - great thing you are doing for your son and his class!
  11. Fish fans here...hubby loves to see everyone eat his prize catches -- was nice when our boys started enjoying it rather than just saying they did to make Dad happy Guess I forgot to post last night -- yellowtail & steamed broccoli plus herb rice for men. Tonight is Pork Chops, Glazed Carrots (no I didn't copy IH) and smashed potatoes (the smashed...
  12. Ok this is strange - I am now in mobile version but have no idea how it changed.
  13. Does anyone use celiac.com on a kindle fire? Is there a way to set the forum to mobile version or other setting so the forum fits the screen? Thanks!
  14. Ps - thanks for checking Karen! I didn't think I had the bag as I dump into a flour container, but do have an emergency bag in the camping supplies.
  15. yep just checked my bag of brm's ap flour - NO xanthan. To the recipe HiLee posted I only switched to gluten-free all purpose flour and add 2 teaspoons of ground ginger This was one of the first tradition recipes I used after going gluten-free. I find it often much easier and better tasting to use "trad" rather than "gluten-free" ones - these...
  16. Certainly not by the weather - Christmas morn always has the best surf - it's called the "Christmas Curl" And it is usually sunny too
  17. I used bob's red mill ap flour for these - I'm fairly certain it has xathan in it. If you use your own flour mix I think you might need xathan - maybe do a small sample batch - they are yummy or could be crumbled to make a pie or cheese cake crust if they don't turn out perfect for the gingermen the class needs without xantan.
  18. This is accurate -- and with all things Celiac - the AGA is useful in some cases - my celiac doc still runs both DGP and AGA on me annually. If a doctor is refusing to run all the tests, I would opt for DGP.
  19. I had elevated liver enzymes at diagnosis which came down slowly over my first year gluten-free and have remained in good range ever since. Another thing to watch is your supplements -- are you taking alot of herbal supplements? These can be tough on the liver.
  20. Welcome Quincy! I agree wholeheartedly. It is my belief that anyone with gastro, autoimmune or nonspecific symptoms should be tested for Celiac Disease. So many of us would have been helped much earlier in life if this was commonplace. Hope your results are clear. Do you know if your doctor ordered a complete Celiac Antibody Panel? If so, regardless...
  21. Hey LJ- Good to hear from you...thought of you the other day as I am on to one more piece of my puzzle. I have an allergic reaction to heat and exercise that has gotten worse each year of my life - the reaction is similar to my reaction to sunflower seeds and avocado -- what do these things have in common? Histamine. It seems that the enzymes needed...
  22. I'd go with dark purple too. We were really surprised the first time we saw one. Very cool animals.
  23. Very true -- I know this story ended happy, but you still made me cry -- this disease sucks. So glad to hear you'll be kicking your heals up in the Big Apple -- do hold off on high kicking with the Rockettes for now...leave a little something for next year's fun http://www.radiocitychristmas.com/content/dam/radiocitychristmas/images/3.PNG Jerky...
  24. We get to feed ours at the Wild Animal Park - pellets that look like baby carrots -- smart ass that I am asked why can't we feed them baby carrots? Hey my dog likes carrots as treats. Very cool tongues -- so glad you get to get up close and personal on your special day
