ARCHIVED Looking For A Few gluten-free Alternatives
GottaSki replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glad to hear the first month is going well. Pacific Naturals Cream Soups - we use the mushroom and celery - sure cream of chicken would be good too. Chex: Regular, Cinnamon and Chocolate EnvironKidz: Panda Puffs (peanut butter balls) and Koala Crunch (cocoa rice crispies) Pebbles: Cocoa and Fruity Glutino makes good crackers and pretzels - not... -
ARCHIVED Losing Weight And Frustrated
GottaSki replied to Macmuireadhaigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you newly gluten-free? If so, it can take time for your body to heal and begin to absorb nutrients properly. Once this happens weight/metabolism issues tend to equalize - those that lost weight gain and those that gained weight lose - for now keep up the caloric intake and increase good fats from fish, nuts, avocado, coconut, olive oils, etc. -

ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original

My knees and formerly broken meditarcles (sp) are great barometers. My muscles/joints can track humidity changes better than the weather channel. -
ARCHIVED Surprised This Morning With Celiac Diagnosis, Not Sure What To Do
GottaSki replied to rorenchan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a similar experience as Janet and her daughter with the nutritionist I went to post diagnosis. Took several weeks to get in and insurance did not cover it. Perhaps she was helpful to others, but she told me nothing that I hadn't learned in my first weeks gluten free. Others have had much better experiences with nutritionists, so if it is included... -
ARCHIVED Advice Needed For My Mum!
GottaSki replied to filmguy50's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome FilmGuy! Yes, many of us have very similar stories to your Mum's. My symptoms were dismissed by many doctors for years as stress, hormones, overwork, motherhood, depression, etc. My symptoms worsened each decade until I could no longer dismiss them myself. It still took another year or more of heavy medical testing to suspect Celiac Disease.... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests And False Negative Results
GottaSki replied to jwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are asking a lot of good questions - this is a very helpful thing when going through the celiac diagnosis process. Depending on which antibody test you are talking about this figure changes. I believe current numbers are as high as 30% false negative. I also believe very strongly that these numbers will change as more and more people are tested... -

ARCHIVED Can Constipation Be A Symptom Of Celiac?
GottaSki replied to jwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nicole will answer...she is great about that...just wanted to add that I had unexplained weight gain for decades - most pronounced after my kids were born. Docs always dismissed this as they hear people claim to eat well and exercise all the time and it is not always true - in my case it was very true -- my friends and family often wondered how I could be... -
ARCHIVED Can Constipation Be A Symptom Of Celiac?
GottaSki replied to jwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Absolutely. While diarrhea is a "classic" symptom of Celiac Disease many of us only experience constipation while others experience a bit of both. Most of my symptoms were not on the "classic" list of symptoms. Here is a link for a more up to date list of the over 300 symptoms that can indicate Celiac Disease. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Some Questions And My Symptoms
GottaSki replied to glasgowfranko1981's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The problem with this statement is that it is misleading. IMO a better phasing would be: all grains can trigger reactions in some who have Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance There are many that heal by the removal of the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley and rye ONLY. Are there celiacs that need to remove more foods in order... -
ARCHIVED Thread For gluten-free, Dairy, Soy, Corn And Nightshade Free Recipes

Steak Steamed Broccoli Spaghetti Squash with cilantro pesto Highlight today was apples -- first fried with a touch of cinnamon for lunch and then used my new dehydrator to dry apple slices - they were crunchy I cannot tell you how much I have missed crunchy snacks this past year. -
ARCHIVED Getting Ready For Colonoscopy/endoscopy
GottaSki replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are neither chicken nor scaredy-cat. What rational person would not be nervous about doctors sending cameras into places that are generally better left alone. I was the first time, but not any of the subsequent times. Just the unknown getting to you - I'd bet on Wednesday you'll be ready to tell others with similar fears that it really was much... -
ARCHIVED Are These Blood Tests Sufficient?
GottaSki replied to jwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Of the Gliadin tests - the Demiated Gliadin Peptide is newer and preferable to the AGA. The AGA tests antibodies created in response to one of the two proteins in gluten - Gliadin The DGP tests antibodies created in response to the peptides that the Gliadin protein breaks into during digestion. I usually tell folks to push their docs for all the tests... -
ARCHIVED Getting Ready For Colonoscopy/endoscopy
GottaSki replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kiki - water is fine! The usual instructions say clear liquids and jello fine -- just no red, blue, purple jello! I didn't feel like anything but water during the prep. Honestly, the colon prep is the worst part of the whole deal. You will likely be given sedation meds - not anesthesia - that will make you sleepy and forget most of the procedure... -

ARCHIVED Substitue For Golden Mushroom Soup?
GottaSki replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Janet's post made me curious as we love to doctor gluten-free things to replicate our family's favorites...what recipes did you use Campbell's Golden Mushroom in? We can always use more ideas for the crock pot I believe Sauterne Wine is equivalent to "white cooking wine". I'd try doctoring gluten-free cream of mushroom with a touch of cooking wine... -
ARCHIVED Possibly Glutened - How Long Till You See A Reaction?
GottaSki replied to SMDBill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think most of us have gone through this. I know I didn't understand how serious minute amounts of gluten could effect me until I was at least a month or two gluten-free. My husband took a bit longer to understand, but my reactions became much more pronounced as time gluten-free increased. Another quirk you may encounter is gluten-like symptoms from... -

ARCHIVED Assuming Possible Misdiagnosis
GottaSki replied to Purplemummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not sure if your son getting gene testing is the best idea - not all people with Celiac Disease have either DQ2 or DQ8 - should he test negative to those he may use that as evidence that he does not have Celiac. I am not saying he does, but as you mention you will be convincing him of the need to remove gluten if he tests positive. On the flip side if it... -
ARCHIVED Possibly Glutened - How Long Till You See A Reaction?
GottaSki replied to SMDBill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry - those first glutenings are tough - heck they are all tough, but the early ones include soooooo many unknowns. Symptoms are different for everyone. I bloat and get a particular kind of foggy/tired (not to be confused with many other forms of fatigue and brain fog that I often have later in the process) within an hour...usually about 45 minutes... -
ARCHIVED Assuming Possible Misdiagnosis
GottaSki replied to Purplemummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your son's tTG is indeed negative, but does not mean he does not have Celiac Disease. With symptoms and a diagnosed sibling it remains a strong possibility that he does have celiac disease. Yes, you both need to have the additional Total Serum IgA blood test to determine if you are deficient. If deficient none of the IgA based antibody tests will be... -
ARCHIVED Surprised This Morning With Celiac Diagnosis, Not Sure What To Do
GottaSki replied to rorenchan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pathology of my biopsies usually takes about a week. I must say, your blood results clearly indicate Celiac Disease. The tTG IgA is very high and the EMA-IgA indicates damage to your small intestine. Not essential to diagnosis, but did your doctor run any IgG based tests or either Demiated Gliadin Peptide blood test? The DGP is important as it is a...
