  1. Yep...I can certainly attest to the frustration of the patient doctors are unable to diagnose in cases of non-responsive celiac and other autoimmune disorders. There is much more to learn with regard to the human digestive system.
  2. I've never had sugar issues. Only abnormal tests were celiac antibodies, nutrients and slightly elevated liver enzymes - abnormal liver numbers were after many years of undx'd celiac.

  4. I too was curious after you posed your question, have been doing a bit of reading and had a similar thought to Tom's - do you know which antibodies can be the direct cause of tissue damage? Perhaps a better question would be -- do you have a reference for endomysial antibodies not causing tissue damage? I'll give it another search myself as well. Thanks...
  5. Welcome Zak! I agree with Jillian. Just wanted to add it can help during your transition to eat more often - smaller meals and healthy snacks rather than three large meals. Chocolate milk or protein shakes after workouts can help your muscles recover
  6. Glad to hear you survived - I too forget everything during and for about two hours after - depends on the meds administered and how you tolerate them As long as all celiac related blood testing is complete before the procedure you can remove ALL gluten as soon as it is done - good luck to you

  8. Not a silly question at all - I use different brands and always check that they are gluten-free.
  9. I'd bet it would taste great - maybe mix a bit of cinnamon into the brown sugar before you sprinkle. I've made coffee cake with BC's yellow cake - followed direction for regular cake then added a crumble mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar, gluten-free flour and butter on top - this would work great as muffin/cupcakes too -- demolished by the gluten eaters...
  10. In addition to B12, D and Ferritin: B1, K, Iron, Copper and Zinc I'm pretty my doc tests B2 and B6 as well...I'd have to double check those.
  11. I've used ginger tea for stomach aches since ginger ale stopped working for me...it works great Haven't added cinnamon - but will do next time - thanks for sharing Neroli!

  15. Tough call. Some great docs have horrible interpersonal skills so I wouldn't change docs because of her rudeness. At least she did realize that a Total IgA had been missed and is willing to schedule endo based on your symptoms with negative blood work - there are many docs that won't consider endo without positive blood work.   16. I agree - I wouldn't risk it. I'd make one or more shelves of the freeze - "Before gluten-free" and let the gluten eaters use it up.
  17. Been there....my back pain, weak ankles and knees that popped out regularly from age 11 magically disappeared since I removed gluten three and half years ago! My back problems were blamed on missing a part of my last vertebrae and a rear-end collision at age 18 - crazy that it was what I was eating - but true. So glad I never had the back surgery they wanted...

We let them decide to go gluten-free for themselves - as it really wouldn't be possible to make teenagers stick with it unless it was their decision - IMHO.   20. If I'm reading your report correctly, you have a single DQ2.2 - which as IH mentioned is a gene regarded at lower risk to develop Celiac Disease - note...lower risk, not without risk. I find your numbers interesting as they are very close to my own kid's negative numbers - all of whom had celiac symptoms resolve after removing gluten. I have often wondered...

  22. I agree - tell your hubs to try not to feel bad - I know mine always did each time he's made a mistake with ingredients - we both cook. It happens - more frequently in the early days, but accidents will happen again. Each accident will not reset your son back to day one - although he may develop a few more symptoms to accidental glutening as his time gluten...

  24. yep...I was teasing...I actually had my own toaster I kept in my office at one point - never had to justify it, but would have happily explained that the common toaster was medically unsafe for me.
