  1. Zippity Do Da!!! Ate half an Udi's Bagel early this morning and all seems ok Until recently I couldn't tolerate any grains -- have been able to eat one slice of canyon bakehouse these past weeks, but failed with udi's last time I tried. Today may be a very good day after all edited to add: the ingredients are the same as Udi's White so...
  2. I did...I tweaked it a bit -- can't do spinach...well I'm hoping to get it back in moderation soon (actually bought some yesterday) but wasn't ready for a trial so...I subbed with Kale. I think it will be even better with Spinach. Cake -- I said cake -- today's model is chocolate : )
  3. I never said you have mast cell activation syndrome. I tried to explain if you are having idiopathic anaphylaxis (anaphylaxis with no known trigger) you should talk to your allergist and if needed have tests to rule out mastocytosis/mcas. Unfortunately my positive attitude is on vacation this week -- life is getting in the way of my cheer. Will return...
  4. nope...can't beat that..... and, um -- cake for dinner is nothing new around here.
  5. Been there...done that...always bookmark and keep reading when ready
  6. J has his priorities in the right place - on all counts -- just saying and the hubs just called dinner bell and my b%$@#in' soup will be made in the morning...I'm busy watching James Tiberius Kirk kick ass
  7. my mistake...page ten. and I have given this paper - hard copy and digital via email to all my doctors. Thank you TH
  8. Hi Karen! I think you need to re-read the chapter TH provided. I've read it numerous times and I think the tests are listed on pg 17. Will give it another read and let you know for sure.
  9. Answered the DAO question in another thread. Your allergist can test you for 24 hour (urine) methyl histamine, protaglanin and serum for tryptase, histamine, etc. along with genes to rule out Mastocytosis. Like I said...this histamine issue isn't well known among U.S. medical professionals.
  10. Sorry...DAO testing is not available in the US to the best of my knowledge. My primary ordered and calls ping-ponged back and forth between UCSD and Mayo for three hours while I waited for the drama to finish. My info is about a year and half old....but as far as I knew we had to send our results to Oz or Europe. Believe it.
  11. Depends on how much you gluten you have been accidentally ingesting. Given just these facts, if you are still having consistent symptoms, I'd have an endoscopy. But I always weigh in on the side of more data is better. If you opt to remain gluten-free, it is time to tighten up to make sure you are not accidentally ingesting gluten. Good luck to...
  12. My men will eat a small portion...along side their steak and taters
  13. Yep, this. Two of my kids were teens when they removed gluten -- anything can be replicated. Hardest part for all of us is the lack of spontaneity, but once the transition is made it becomes much easier to deal with all circumstances - for young people as well as those of us older folks ; )
  14. This is good advice - if he had run a complete antibody panel. Sounds like he is following protocol with the exception of the additional blood work.
  15. Have a bit of a stressed out system today, so gonna make this for dinner (with a couple minor adjustments): http://comfybelly.com/2014/03/green-velvet-soup/#.U1biOlfTXIU
  16. Since the doctor already recommended removing gluten, I thought it wise to get the additional tests now to prevent the frustration that can happen if her biopsies do not provide clear data for this doctor to diagnose Celiac Disease. In fact I tell everyone to get as much starting data as possible...there is simply no way to know who is going to end up...
  17. In my opinion, having the complete antibody panel run at diagnosis is important. This starting data can not be replicated. If these tests are not run, there is nothing to compare the follow up blood tests needed to manage celiac disease - especially in children. A complete antibody panel should be done at 3mo, 6mo and annually thereafter once the antibodies...
  18. FWIW...I'd guess she has celiac disease and if the doctor was not convinced with the extremely high tTG-IgA and damage noted during the endoscopy I would ask why he did not run the rest of the celiac antibody tests. Did she have any nutrients tested? Hang in there Mom and J! Hopefully, the doctor will receive information from the pathology report that...
  19. Symptoms that resolved gluten-free plus genes and malabsorption sure sounds like Celiac to me. There really is no need for the official diagnosis if you are living completely gluten-free. If you want a diagnosis, I would make an appt with a GI that has real celiac knowledge and experience. Edited to add...re-testing your nutrient levels at six month...
  20. Welcome to the best club none of us ever wanted to join. Good health awaits...cheers!
  21. Welcome G! In simple terms you have damage in your small intestine that has likely been caused by gluten and/or dairy in your diet. Make sure you had all of these blood tests: Total Serum IgA tTG-IgA tTG-IgG EMA-IgA DGP-IgA DGP-IgG Also helpful is blood test for nutrients as malabsorption can be an issue with the damage found during your...
  22. I've got a jambon up for grabs...we dislike split pea soup very much...cracks me up...Mom had made Split Pea every year after Easter so I always gave her the bone and a pea soup mix I got up at a Country Store in Julian -- as she became -- shall we say more honest as her health has declined I found out she hates pea soup as much as me...but Dad and Sis love...
  23. Thanks Jamie..I think I do...Will have to check hubs cell as he was the unofficial photog for the evening. Can't believe I found a piece in the frig waiting for son that missed encores last night:
  24. Welcome Bruce! When GAPS works it is a fantastic tool. Sadly, I failed GAPS because I could not tolerate fermented foods. I did, however, learn to use bone broth regularly If anyone would like my copy of GAPS...pm me your address and I'll be happy to send it to someone that can use it.
