  1. So much speculation on meds...I had a doctor laugh at me when I asked if the medicine he was perscribing was gluten-free...a completely valid question! Sometimes wheat starch is used as a filler and I have ehard that there can be gluten in the actual capsules themselves, but apparently in the US and Canada most meds are gluten-free. I still question.
  2. Maybe it's a corn issue? I know I can't havce corn...
  3. I am in university and struggling. My roommates are really good about not using my things and such, but there are crumbs everywhere and things just seem to intermingle. I was diagnosed almost a year ago and I never, ever cheat, and I know my hidden gluten very well. I am on the waitlist for a single room right now, but I probably wotn get into one until...
  4. I have had that for a few years, let me know if this is similar to you: Not chest tightess or pain when breathing, but it feels like each breath in inefficient...like you need a huge gulp of air for your lungs to be satisfied? That's pretty much the only way I can explain it...sound familiar?
  5. I am 5' tall and fluctuate between 95-105 pounds...random people around town have asked me when my baby is due. I find it horribly offensinve, especially since I look about thirteen years old! That is a huge symptom of mine...intense bloating. It's embarrasing, and i love my tummy in the morning...nice and flat..makes me not want to eat anything because...
  6. There is a natural foods sture behind Toys r us in the same mall as Save on (which also has a lot we can eat!). save on is good too. these are all aroudn summit/columbia/mcgill drive in sahali near the university in kamloops.
  7. These are the best cookies I have ever had, gluten or no gluten: 1 c PB 1 c Brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla bake at 350* for 9-11 minutes. they can either be rolled and flattened with a fork, or add chocolate chips to make them even better!
  8. I love the kinnikinnick ones!
  9. Sometines I'm a bit bloated after one but that seems to be the extent of my symptoms...try the sugar covered donuts, those are amazing and no reaction! Maybe something in the chocolate gets to us?
  10. You could have a salad or something like that, but make sure you talk to the manager and the server in great detail. Personally, I never EVER eat at restaurants anymore...unless they have a specific gluten-free menu, like some places in the States. It's not worth the pain, and I don't trust restaurant staff at all...even if they try their best, everything...
  11. Tuna salad, tuna on a rice cake, peanut bettuer and banana on a rice cake, anything on a rice cake haha...greek salad, veggies, fruits, cold turkey (on a rice cake!)...There are TONS of foods we can eat, no need to eat the same thing every single day!
  12. Safeway (or other store, but I know these ones are safe) roasted chickens! $6, there's dinner. Save the carcass, boil it, add a many veggies as you can pack in there, gluten-free noodles, and I usually add a chicken breast or two, and you have soup for a week. I make Sunday my cooking day usually. I cut up veggies and bag them for my lunches, make...
  13. For my research paper in my composition class, I have decided to write about celiac disease. I would love some input from fellow celiacs, and if you could include your real name so I can quote accurately that would be great. My questions are as followed: What are your symptoms after being glutened? How old were you when you were diagnosed? For how...
  14. I went to Pita Pit today in my university's cafeteria, and explained my allergies. They said if I came back with a container they could put anything that was in a pita pocket in the container. So I came back with my tupperware. Without me even having to ask, the guy put new gloves on right away, wiped down the grill thoroughly, made sure my chicken had...
  15. My dad does this ALL THE TIME. I hate going grocery shopping with him because he buys tons of stuff we don't need, and nothing I say can stop him from buying things. I know it's not the same situation, but it is similar in the way that we have too much food that ends up getting thrown out. Then he groans about it not being eaten..sometimes he complains...
  16. I have been using their pans and cloths..this is the only day ive been sick and Ive used the fry pan twice (well, dinner, and then again today). I'm thinking that's it. Thanks for the suggestions, it's comforting knowing there are sympathetic people out there who understand waht im going through.
  17. Okay, so I am now inbetween puke-breaks and I thuoght I would try and figure this out. I had a migraine all morning since around 9, slept from noon until four, have been throwing up and D, feeling depressed and teary as well. I have no idea what could have made me feel this way. Dinner last night Baked potato topped with stir-fried (in water) peppers...
  18. When I was put on an elimination diet it was... Rice Potatoes Turkey (plain of course) Canned peaches Spinach I did that for a week, then introduced foods in two-day sessions. If that food didn't bother me, it was added to the list.
  19. vinegar has bothered me for years, long before becoming celiac. Not only does it affect my stomach, but my tongue swells up real big.
  20. Thanks for all the replies, I'm definitely going to start keeping a food diary..I did for a while and then stopped when I was feeling better for a while. I might try the SCD for a while too, and see how that works out. Is casein only in cow produts, or can I have goat's milk/cheese?
  21. I buy these really yummy little nut clusters. They are in the shape of cubes and come in a bag...Mary's might be the brand? Don't have any right now so I can't check!
  22. I have been gluten-free for almost 8 months now, and have not cheated at all. I have been glutened quite a few times at restaurants or by cc in the home, but even when Im eating right I still seem to have constant nausea and pain in my stomach, as well as bloating. To the point where strangers ask me when my baby is due...pretty embarrassing for an 18 year...
  23. I had terrible colic as a baby, and numerous health problems until I was finally diagnosed at 18 years old.
  24. Sorry to hear about this. It's frustrating when people think it's not a big deal eh? It just makes me so mad, I could rant for hours. What is a 504 plan?
  25. I totally know what you are going through...my family is not very understanding at all. My mom is getting better but I can't trust my dad to cook dinner. When he cooks dinner for the family I have to hover over him and make sure I can eat what he's making, and that he doesn't cc my food. He doesn't understand my symptoms either, because he doesn't think...
