  1. I have not had the pleasure of traveling to the UK yet, but I have been following the blogger www.glutenfree20something.com for awhile as he travels and blogs about trying to eat gluten-free in other countries. I had a post about the UK and also Ireland, which interested me very much. You might puruse thru his posts.
  2. No luck here either. I have tried MANY times with no luck.
  3. I meant to post this in hopes of helping those that are new, or somewhat new, to this road of figuring out what and how we are able to eat. It wasn't always an easy road for me to understand in the beginning....a little over 4 yrs ago. I had many "duh!" moments and "what the heck??????" moments. I think those of us that are used to cooking can figure out...
  4. Yes, and that's why I posted this. Just in case.
  5. Just read this and thought I'd pass the info on for anyone that likes to eat at Taco Bell. Personally, I haven't eaten there in a long time, but dairy is also an issue for me. But, apparently, there has been a class-action suit lodged against Taco Bell because their "seasoned ground beef" isn't enough real beef to qualify. Its mostly filler and the ingredients...
  6. Yeah, I agree with quinoa. It would be a nice substitute for barley.
  7. Thanks for that info! I had never heard of such a thing. I am just adding SOME cheese back in my diet OCCASSIONALLY, as I'm also dairy-intolerant. But I've found I can tolerate it sometimes. I was VERY disappointed to learn Udi's has eggs in their ingredients. Again, another item I'm VERY intolerant of. I tried to add it back in like the cheese, but...
  8. Personally, I don't think you can do much more than you are. He's an adult. It would seem that anyone would figure out that one's diet has alot to do with our health, but he's obviously not wanting to accept that option right now. I would mention it from time to time, maybe a subscription to a magazine like Living Without or an online newsletter dealing...
  9. that does seem weird, but at the same time, not much surprises me anymore. Good thing I hate dates, lol!!
  10. I eat them by the gross, lol. I find them kinda hard to do as wraps, tho. They tear too much. You might try cutting them in fourths, laying them on a cookie sheet, spray with Pam and lightly salt and bake for.....20 min or until golden. I forget exactly how long...it's been awhile since I've done it. But it's the BEST chips!
  11. Just take your own food. And YOU be in charge of it. Specifically instruct Mom and sister that YOU will heat it up or whatever it needs and NOT to put it on the table with all the other food!! Keep it in a seperate spot in the kitchen that only YOU will be around. Take your own utensils/serving spoons. If they get all pissy about it, tell them you WANT...

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy?

I am scheduled to have my first colonoscopy a week from Monday. I'm going to be 52 in a couple of weeks. My doc first mentioned getting it done 3 yrs ago and I have just put it off and put it off and put it off. So humiliating. But now she AND my gyno is BUGGING me to get it done, so I'm finally doing it. Question, is a colonoscopy the same thing as...
  14. My 20 yr old son came home from classes in the next 30 minutes and by the time he walked around smelling, the smell was gone. Must have been something outside for a time and the rest was my imagination taking over. Thanks for any concern. Still leaves me wondering about any connection tho.
  15. I may be putting this in the wrong forum, and if so, I apologize. But just read something I'm curious about. I was smelling a strong whiff of natural gas. I get quite paranoid about stuff like this and my husband is out of town today. So I go online to google symptoms of a gas leak, so I'll know when I start feeling sick. I found an article by someone claiming...
  16. Wow, you know so much more about yourself than I do! I am almost 52 and about 4 yrs ago suddenly had "issues" and after a couple of years narrowed down new intolerances to glutens, dairy, nuts, eggs, beans and rice. It didn't take too long for me to realize that doctors were of no use and only costing me money for no results. After my GP, went to an allergist...
  17. I had food allergies as a young child, but grew out of them. Jump ahead about 40 yrs and I become lactose-intolerant. That goes about the same for 15 yrs and SUDDENLY I have all kinds of issues. After a couple of years of trying doctors and simply writing everything that goes in my mouth down in a journal, I find I am gluten-intolerant, the lactose-intolerant...
  18. I travel 15 hrs to get to KS and visit home! So, lucky you, lol! I would say that this is the time of year you shouldn't have to worry too much about keeping something cold enough. Put it in your trunk and in a place that doesn't cover and insulate them and they should be fine. I wouldn't think they are THAT perishable! Have a nice holiday and my prayers...
  19. Yes, you could be intolerant of a number of things!! There are 8 COMMON allergens and then there's a unlimited amount of things you could be intolerant of on top of that. I kept a journal of everything that went in my mouth. I also had to determine the approximate amount of time it took for something to "affect" me. Everyone is very different. This is...
  20. My inlaws and my mother TRY to understand but you can tell they don't. I think they view this stuff as "new" or trendy. Little do they understand that people have been misdiagnosed with a menagerie of illnesses for years, incorrectly. I have also found that most older people just can't change how they think/believe. Let them be. Do what you need to do...
  21. Sorry, no. "Glazed" doesn't shout "gluten" to me. I learn so much on this board. Thank you for sharing!
  22. Some products are just naturally gluten-free and its more a "jumping on the bandwagon" imo, to print "Gluten-free" on it. You could fall in one of two categories, imo. First, you are bothered by more than just gluten. Do these two items have something else in common? Start keeping track of ALL ingredients and see if you see a pattern of something else...
  23. REALLY??? My hubby got turned onto cigars about a year ago after being given a Java-flavored one. I have to admit that I enjoyed a few puffs of each that he has tried. Well, most of them, lol. I haven't noticed anything that would make me wonder about gluten in them, tho. However, I have often had a degree of bothersome issues and never knew why! Thanks...
  24. I have recently discovered I can do Lactaid milk also. And if I'm exposed to other dairy accidentally, the Lactaid in the milk seems to help ward off issues with the other! I haven't been brave enough yet ti simply throw caution to the wind yet, tho. I have discovered if I drink too much in a day(easy ti so because I'm so happy it tastes like real milk again...
  25. besides the cc issue and the obvious need to know the ingredients, I have discovered that as time has gone by, accidental ingestion of foods that bother me tends to bother me more and more each time. Just another thought. I think when you feel better, having a serious one-on-one with the maid about your cooking needs is in order!
