  1. It is a bad idea to get spelt. It is a form of wheat and whether or not you get symptoms from it, it will cause damage to the intestines. That is definitely something to stay away from.
  2. It varies from person to person but I feel it right away and my reactions last 2 weeks
  3. Some people just don't get reactions. You could just get reactions some times and not other times which doesn't mean anything except that. It will still do the damage even if it doesn't cause the symptoms. Some people do get more sensitive to gluten the longer they are gluten free but others do not. I'm glad you didn't feel bad after eating it though
  4. Here are brands that will not hide any gluten under anything...they will clearly list wheat, rye, barley, oats if the food contains any: Aunt Nelly’s Balance Baskin Robbins Ben&Jerry Betty Crocker Blue Bunny Breyers Campbells Cascadian Farms Celestial Seasonings Country Crock Dove Edy’s General Mills Good Humor Green Giant Haagen Daz He...
  5. Completely agree here. Do not start the diet until you have all the testing you are satisfied with done. If you decide to go gluten free and then get tested it can cause false negatives unless going back on gluten for an extended amount of time. You should request a full celiac panel with the following tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG...
  6. The Fritos FLAVORED TWISTS Honey BBQ are gluten free but not the BBQ fritos. I just checked the list Hope this helps
  7. You may see a difference that soon but do not go expecting that. Different people vary with the amount of time it takes for symptoms to go away. It took mine 6 months to get better and a few more months to get back to normal. It also depends on age, how long its been undiagnosed, how much damage there is, etc. Hope you feel better soon
  8. It took me about 6 months to feel alot better and a few more to get back to normal. It just takes time to heal and everybody's symptoms will go away in their own time...they just vary. Make sure you aren't getting any gluten through products like shampoo and things like that. Those things get into your mouth pretty easily. Also soaps should be gluten...
  9. Neutrogena has a list of gluten free products and quite a few products that are gluten free. I posted on it in the product section a while ago...if you can't find it then you can email me and I'll send it to you. Not sure if Dove has SPF in their new moisturizers but they will not hide anything on labels so you check for wheat, rye, barley, oats and if it...
  10. yeah, I don't like the negative thing either because I personally do not think it sucks. I also don't want people I first meet and tell about celiac to feel bad for me. I don't want sympathy...I'm happy with the way I am and proud to be gluten free Thanks for posting the link though...they have some cool items...I wonder if they could make them with a...
  11. That's great! One person can sometimes be louder then a crowd. This is definitely a good thing for us and hopefully the more we get the word out to these restaurants, the easier it will get for us.
  12. Go to that site you want to put the link in for and up where you put website addresses at right click your mouse and hit copy. Then come to the site and right click it again and click paste
  13. There could be more then one thing going on here...at least that's what it sounds like. There is a possibility that she has celiac and it has been undiagnosed for a while and is now getting other problems. Gaining weight and those symptoms can be associated with celiac. Everyones symptoms are different. She should get a full celiac panel to rule celiac...
  14. The gluten free diet may or may not control it. Each time I have had blood tests it has been ALOT worse. Since going gluten free though each time I have had my test it has been worse but not by much. Hopefully it will not get worse but we'll see. Hypothyroid is different from Graves...Graves is a form of hyperthyroid. Either can be associated with celiac...
  15. Graves disease is a form of hyperthyroidism...and yes thyroid problems are highly linked with celiac. I'm not even being treated for it at this point because the levels are low enough its not enough for meds yet because its in beginning stages. They monitor it every 3 months.
  16. Yea I eat fuity and cocoa pebbles all the time....and Envirokidz has some really good cereals that were just mentioned too...and the ones that are gluten free say gluten free right on the box
  17. Well I'm glad I can help you understand it at least a little....don't worry about asking the questions...I was confused about that at first too.
  18. A 1 room cabin...wow talk about no privacy. That would drive me crazy. Like 8 years ago my moms side of the family rented a beach house in SC and it was 2 bedrooms. There were about 16 people that went...talk about crazy...anyways, I just got sidetracked... By the way you are describing how you have been feeling then it would probably not be the best...
  19. I started taking it a while ago(around the time I was diagnosed- when I really needed some major help). I should be on it probably more then I am right now but I do take it. It seems to work really well. It's in one of the pills I take...it has a variety of things in it. I'll have to check on the name of it..I don't have the bottle near me at the moment....
  20. Coco Puffs are NOT ok....Cocoa Pebbles by Post are ok.
  21. Breastfeeding is the best thing for the child. Breastfeeding is known to be a preventative for celiac disease in children.
  22. Well if you have been gluten free of course the endoscopy would show negative. The damage would heal, you would get an endoscopy, it would show negative, and he would say you don't have celiac...that then may not be true. Which blood tests did you have done originally and what were the results? If it's not this then what is it? There is obviously something...
  23. Just because someone may not respond does not mean they do not find the information very helpful. I take this supplement and we have heard nothing but good things about it
  24. It's there now because it is pinned so you can click on that section and you will see it. It was not missing...if it is not pinned, the place where you can see it is under "today's active posts".
  25. Clan Thompson newsletters are very informative. I check out that site occasionally for info. I agree with the Gluten Free Living suggestion...thats a good magazine
