Obviously the hot dog buns are not gluten free and the way those places are run, I'm not sure if I would trust them if the hot dog itself was gluten free. They seem like places that are high risk for cross contamination. They keep so busy I am not sure they can really worry about what touches the hot dog. As far as the other things, I am not sure. I have...

ARCHIVED Ingredient In Diet Sodas, Aspartame, Causes Cancer
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I believe it could contribute to a # of diseases. I have seen many things on artificial sweeteners being worse for you then sugar. There have been alot of side effects of these artificial sweeteners, I personally stay away from them. The artificial sweeteners are sweeter then the actual sugar. I believe they said Splenda is 600 times sweetener, aspartame... -
Disneyworld is a really good place for accomodating people with dietary restrictions including celiac. Wherever you decide to stay, call the places in advance to see how they can work with you to ensure there is somthing safe for your child.

ARCHIVED Grandparents And Celiacs
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How rude(if it is on purpose)....I can't believe they would not follow something to help their grandson. This may make them mad but personally I would say..."This can make him very sick and if you can not respect that, as much as we hate to do this, then we will not be allowing him over anymore." At this point they are blowing it off like its nothing. If... -

ARCHIVED Biopsy- Gluten Free One Year
KaitiUSA replied to Magdeliscious's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten free that long it's very likely the biopsy will come back negative. I noticed you also had bloodwork in May...that would also stand to reason why it came back negative as well. Have you been checked for other intolerances as well? Also, if you were getting gluten into your system through products, as I mentioned before, that... -
ARCHIVED Begining To Doubt Cd
KaitiUSA replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The complete panel actually has 5 tests. What test did you have done? tTG? EMA? IgA? IgG? If you had the IgA done and that came back negative that can be false because alot of celiacs can have IgA deficiency. Also, the biopsy is a good diagnosis tool if there is damage but it won't necessarily rule it out because there could be no damage yet or sporadic... -
ARCHIVED Begining To Doubt Cd
KaitiUSA replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's not enough time to expect symptoms to go away. Also have you had gluten free products such as soaps and shampoos too? Did you have a full celiac panel done or only certain tests? If so, what tests? If you had a full celiac panel and a biopsy come back negative then chances are you do not have it yet or the levels are too low to be detected and so... -
ARCHIVED Teen With Possible Cd
KaitiUSA replied to browneyedgrl73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should definitely be tested. Sounds like you could possibly have celiac. I would request a full celiac panel consisting of the following: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA By the way-I am also 17(18 in 2 weeks) and if you need any help with... -
ARCHIVED Low Gluten- Is It Ok
KaitiUSA replied to Nic from Aust's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is false. She needs to be completely gluten free. A low gluten diet is the same as being on gluten..she will likely see complications in the future if she continues that. Glucose does not have gluten either so I'm not sure where your dietitian is getting that. Sounds to me like the dietitian needs the boot out the door. Alot of dietitians and even alot... -
ARCHIVED Son Going For Follow Up- Test Question
KaitiUSA replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm 17 at the moment...I will be 18 in about 2 weeks!!! If the doctor gave you a diagnosis with high IgA I would say you have it. IgA can be wrong when low due to IgA deficiency. Most of the time when it's high it will be accurate. You have antibodies so therefore there is a gluten problem However, now a full panel which includes the tTG is recommended... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch
KaitiUSA replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
9 times out of 10 it is ok but you have to check on it because it CAN contain gluten. I have run into things that had gluten in the MFS. Always check -

ARCHIVED Son Going For Follow Up- Test Question
KaitiUSA replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Biopsy- Gluten Free One Year
KaitiUSA replied to Magdeliscious's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want a biopsy now, you should be on gluten for a good 3 months prior to testing because otherwise it may come back negative. You need to be on gluten throughout testing. Have you ever had the full celiac panel done? It consists of 5 tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase... -
ARCHIVED Cheerios
KaitiUSA replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles are a Kraft brand. I really trust Kraft and never had a problem with the cereals and I am very sensitive. I eat foods that are processed on the same lines as wheat (alot of gluten-free things in the store are not made in dedicated facilities so there is that risk with alot of foods we eat) but if I have a reaction I get rid of it... -

ARCHIVED Cheerios
KaitiUSA replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cheerios are NOT gluten free. Don't know where he/she got there info but I wouldn't be trusting the things they say are gluten free. However, you can have Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles by Post -
My mom had to get her mercury fillings all taken out and replaced with the new stuff that blends with your teeth. The mercury was leaching into her body and causing some problems...don't know what kind of fillings you had but that could have been causing you a problem as well...

ARCHIVED Gf Foods
KaitiUSA replied to anniej55's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I stay away completely from oats. In the US they are highly contaminated with wheat. However, it has been said that if they are pure oats made in a dedicated facility, and grown not with wheat, may be safe but good luck finding brands without contamination. The problem is a portion of people react to the actual protein in oats called avenin. I just find... -
I've always had low cholesterol...my dad has high cholesterol but he is working on bringing that down and is doing well with that(he is not a celiac)

ARCHIVED Celiac Or Ibs?
KaitiUSA replied to Senekha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lactose intolerance can be associated with celiac especially at first when there is damage because the damage interferes with the breakdown and digestion of lactose. I was lactose intolerant on and off my whole life until going gluten free and now I am fine with it. Also, celiac is commonly misdiagnosed for things such as IBS I would suggest a... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Plus Testing...
KaitiUSA replied to tama-chan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm guessing this "celiac plus" test is the complete celiac panel of these 5 things: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA If that is the test...yes this is a good panel to get done. The best lab in the US for testing is Prometheus. Do not go gluten...
