  1. It's cool no need to apologize...I had to laugh about it too
  2. Jen-pre gluten-free I would get stomach aches after I ate like all the time. The enzymes help break down the food easier and quicker and I can say they really helped me out alot. Now, even though I have no problems with stomach aches after eating, I still take enzymes with my meals to help the digestion process.
  3. Yes, I take enzymes and I have nothing but great things to say about them. I also love probiotics too. For enzymes I use CompleteGest by Enzymatic Therapy For probiotics I use KyoDophilus
  4. The problem is with celiac something is broke...it may not be noticable by symptoms. You do not have to have symptoms but the intestines will be taking damage. To ignore it will likely cause other problems, some of which can be life threatening or disabling. If you don't fix one problem then another problem may arise. Even if people think your nuts, your...
  5. Wow what an interesting thread...and this started out on toothpaste Well at least you know whats safe
  6. The non celiac gluten intolerance does not cause damage to the intestines but it will cause symptoms and it is possible to develop celiac then. Celiac causes damage to the intestines. Testing below 2 years of age can be false. To get testing done your son needs to be on gluten for 3 months. However with a negative gene test it is unlikely for him to have...
  7. I was lactose intolerant pre gluten-free but I could handle it in small amounts. Now, since my intestines healed I can tolerate it in any amount. You may have a permanent lactose intolerance or it could be until your intestines heal. Alot of celiacs tolerate it once the intestines get better. If you decide to try it ...start out with really small amounts...
  8. She should definitely be tested. The symptoms sound like those that can come with celiac and it is genetic. However, testing in kids under 2 years can be inaccurate. And your husband should be on the gluten free diet to...symptoms or not if he has it and does not follow the diet increases his chances 40-100 times of getting cancer,diabetes,osteoporosis...
  9. From those results and you feeling better off of gluten I would say definitely stay off of gluten. You may not have celiac, which causes the damage but you have a gluten intolerance that is causing symptoms. If you eat gluten and then have symptoms it will pull your immunity down and you may experience other problems so it is in your best interest to stay...
  10. Cookie- I agree to. It's pretty easy for me as well. Once you know what to look for on labels and brands you can buy and so forth it's very simple. It was hard at first so I can understand people having difficulty with it though. And don't worry about messing it up with that girl that approached you.
  11. Yes, you need to be on gluten heavily(equal to 3 pieces of bread a day) for 3 months prior to testing. If you are gluten free that will heal damage. So those results are NOT accurate at all. Even if you were on gluten and the biopsy came back negative-it would not rule celiac out because you could have sporadic damage that they miss or no damage yet....
  12. Ruddabega-The only test kit you can get is one to test for the presence of wheat. Nothing is out for rye, barley, or oats.
  13. Yea, would make things alot easier but it's not essential as long as the person is helpful and understanding of the diet.
  14. As far as false negatives go...with the complete panel done that is not likely. Some of the tests in the full panel are very specific. In fact, the tTG will take the place of biopsies for the diagnosis in kids in the near future. To have the tests positive it clearly means there is something going on. I have heard of false negatives before but with the tests...
  15. For the blood tests, any doctor can order them. Make sure you get a full panel though which includes the following: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA I would recommend seeing a GI doctor that has some knowledge about celiac disease as well. If an endoscopy...
  16. Dove products will list wheat, rye, barley, oats on the label if they contain any. I use alot of thier products SoftSoap liquid soap is gluten free Purrell hand sanitizer is gluten free I use Crest and that's gluten free Alot of listerine products are gluten free but they would not guarantee to me that all of them were. I know certain flavors are though...
  17. If it's prepackaged shredded cheese from a bag then it may contain gluten. They sometimes put wheat flour in there. If you get a Kraft brand though they will mark it on the label if anything questionable is contained in the products. This is very sweet what you are doing for her. Make sure if you use anything that has been used to make gluten containing...
  18. If you notice something makes you sick then deinitely avoid it. Have you considered getting an allergy or intolerance test done to see what other foods you may have a problem with? There are tests you can get for that. As for supplements...they work good for some people but they are not for everyone. I have had wonderful experiences with calcium, B vitamins...
  19. I have Graves Disease(hyperthyroid) in addition to celiac.
  20. #1. I am not sure about percentage on that but it is possible to have negative bloodtests and biopsies but be gluten intolerant and possibly develop it in the future #2. Celiac is not an allergy so it would not show up on an allergy test. They have separate testing. There is a complete panel of 5 tests that should be done. The tTG is the best bloodtest...
  21. The only way to get rid of a thread is for Scott to remove it.
  22. Mono can trigger celiac. That is what triggered mine. It's a domino effect. Thyroid disorders are highly connected with celiac. I have Graves Disease(hyperthyroid) Also, further testing will not be accurate if you are on the diet so if you need to get more testing then you need to get back on gluten. If you had positive bloodwork(depends on the tests)...
  23. No, if you have it neither one of your parents have to have it. They may have the gene for it but not have it activated or they could indeed have it but nothing is for sure. It does run in families but not everyone gets it. If you have a relative with it then you should be tested though
  24. Ordering a hamburger at a restaurant chain and then taking the bread off and switching it is a horrible idea because the cross contamination is inevitable. There is a guarantee of it with all those crumbs. As for bread, I really like Foods by George, Kinnikinnick, and Cybros breads
  25. That would be interesting to know...let us know how the results come out if you do that. Unfortunately there is not testing kits for everything...there should be though
