  1. In California, you are "on call." You call in the day the notice says, and they tell you if you have to come or not. Usually if you don't have to go in that day, you have to call in the next day to check. Makes planning very touchy for that week. Take lots of snacks wtih uou and a good book! Every time I have gone, there was a LOT of sitting and waiting...
  2. My 9 year old son is Celiac. We are 100% gluten-free in the house because I have Celiac as well. I suspect my 12 yr old has it because of vitamin deficiencies. My 9 yr was vomiting also. I took out dairy for him for the first month and it helped dramatically. I realize it's hard to limit a young child's diet, but it pays off when you have a healthy child...
  3. I've read that you have to eat the equivalent of 3 slices of bread per day for a really long time for a postive result. You're braver than I am. I would rather chew nails than to do a gluten challenge. I've thought about it, and dismissed it in two minutes after thinking about how terrible I felt on gluten. Good luck to you. I hope it's not too bad!
  4. I went for my second with my new doc, a D.O. Andrew Mlenyek. My visit today was for a pulled groin muscle (ouch!) My first visit was a get to know you and I was very confident with his Celiac knowledge. I mentioned today that I still have some unidentifed secondary food intolerances, and he whipped out a form to get tested for immuno something (I will...
  5. I FOUND THIS RECIP ON A WHILE BACK, AND FINALLY MADE IT ON sUNDAY. I THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY TASTELESS I THINK I'VE BEEN SPOILED BY UDI'S
  6. I do not have a bottle of La Choy soy sauce handy, but I called La Choy and listened to their recording about allergens. They practice allergen information labeling, so if it contains wheat or gluten, it will say on the label. I will check when I go to the market later.

    ARCHIVED Lupus

I never got the rash, but I did have pleurisy constantly, joint pain, fevers, fatigue and malaise. All of it went POOF when I went gluten-free, within 3 days! I have a whole new bunch of symptoms to deal with, but these are easier than the constant pain, for sure! Wishing well for you!
  8. I made the banana bread last weekend. Very delicious!
  9. Sometimes I think this guy is a quacker, but seems pretty right on in the vitamin arena: Open Original Shared Link
  10. Jason, I tend to be leary to things manufactured outside of the US because of labeling laws. Why not go down to Whole Foods and get the stongest ones they have, allergen free, and just take them three times a day? Keep your chin up!!
  11. How about eating papaya and pineapple? I think they have the same kinds of enzymes.
  12. stuffed mushrooms: 1 roll sausage and 1 block of cream cheese (reduced and non fat work just fine) Saute sausage til done, mix in softened cream cheese. Add a little sage and pepper. Stuff 24 mushroom caps, bake for 30 min at 350. Delicious!
  13. How about some hearty soups? Lentil with bacon, chicken and rice with lots of veggies. Wraps using the meats she likes, using lettuce, rice paper wrappers, corn tortillas.

    ARCHIVED Lupus

I was diagnosed with Lupus 10 years ago. Through the years, I took prednisone, methotrexate, plaquenil, cortef, florinef and probably others that I can't remember now. In June I was diagnosed with Celiac. All of my "lupus" symptoms miraculously vanished. I've been off all drugs for 5 months and feel fantastic most of the time. All inflammatory markers...
  15. Eric, My doc escribed 50,000 IU 3 times a week for 2 months, then 5,000 daily. I am having no adverse effects.
  16. Hi All, I have posted here before about some kidney issues. Bottom line is that since going gluten-free, my kidney labs are WAY off and I developed massive insterstitial edema as a result. I've been to 8 docs with no answers. I went to see a new nephro yesterday, who is fairly sure it is hormone related I was vey sick for about 10 years...
  17. It makes sense! Give the diet a good, strict try! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Tests are notoriously inaccurate, and cannot diagnose gluten intolerance, only Celiac. The effect on quality of life is the same, so I dont kjnow why has to be called 2 different things. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Please verify, but I believe Straterra, Ritalin and Vyvanse are all gluten-free. My DS takes adderall and straterra and he is super sensitive.
  19. Before I was dx Celiac, I had the chronic yeast infections too. Turned out I had a massive fungal infection of my GI tract. The GI doc did an upper endo to diagnose, then I took Diflucan for 30 days every day. That fixed it. Might want to ask about that.
  20. This is just my theory: I think that our bodies are so overloaded with fighting off the gluten that the other things lurk there until your body has time to deal with it. In other words, these issues were there all along, bod was just choosing its battles.
  21. I have no experience with the SCD. You might check in with Allib, she is our resident expert. This whole intolerance thing is very tricky!
  22. I've been tested for almost everything. Vitamins, electrolytes, metabolic, kidney, heart and liver funciton. Having some kidney issues, so everything has been checked. They found the following deficiencies/issues: secondary hyperparathryoid caused by D deficiency hypothyroid iron deficient anemia b12 deficiency Most of it has been addressed. i...
  23. Unfortunately, when your body has been starved for nutrients, it hangs onto everything! The only thing I found that stopped the gain was working out like a dog. I do circuit training for 35 min per day, 6 days a week, along with a low cal 1500 cal diet. They say it takes up to a year for eveything to straighten out. Can't wait for that!
  24. I started out with so many intolerances that I did not have before going gluten-free. The list included: dairy, nuts, grains of all kinds, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, and most recently all nightshade vegetables. Dairy and nuts- I just tried once a month or so in small amounts, and was able to tolerate again. Rice- I started with a little spoonful about...
  25. His name is Andrew Mielnek. He's a D.O. in Huntington Beach, with Beach Family Doctors. Open Original Shared Link I went in for my first patient visit. He looked at all my labs, was able to determine several issues and gave some good, no nonsense advice. My next visit I am going to ask about food intolerances. Haven't found a GI I like, but I think...
