  1. Just piping up as one of that 10-15% who can't have gluten-free oats (best we can tell). If you have an issue with all oats and it wasn't just gluten cc, you might be helped looking up Avenin sensitive enteropathy - that's the official name for reacting to the oats, I believe. :-) And IF you have this, I'm afraid things just got much more complicated...
  2. Honestly, I'd guess the tortillas. Quite a few people on the forum have had trouble with food for life products - there was even a discussion about the tortillas specifically in Feb. ( ) If I remember right, one of the issues has been that they often use barley water to process some of the grains. Because it is in the processing, it is not officially...
  3. Might not be the ingredients, either. It could simply be that it's contaminated somehow. They say they are gluten free - did you ask if they tested for gluten? Do they test every batch, or periodically? If they test, what is their gluten ppm detection cutoff? If they say they don't test because it 'has no gluten ingredients so it's gluten free,' then...
  4. My dietician has her clients start eating gluten free meals mixed in with their normal meals - you don't need to TELL him they're gluten free, heh - and then phase out the gluten dishes as you find more and more gluten free foods that you like. More fruit and veggie snacks, meals that use rice and potatoes rather than bread and pasta, that sort of thing...
  5. plantar fasciitis disappeared and I had pulled muscles/sprains that never seemed to fully heal - 10 years old! - that finally did after only a few months gluten-free. So count me in, too!
  6. Might also help to call up all your food and hygiene products and see how gluten-free they really are. At first, I was just calling/checking to see if things were 'gluten-free,' and then I found out that was not at all working for us. Many companies are now calling their stuff gluten free when it's really just 'no gluten added...on purpose.' If a company...
  7. Okay, first - have you called the GI who did the endoscopy to make sure this can't be a result of your body reacting to anything from the endoscopy? I would think 5 days would be a bit long to start having a reaction, but I don't know enough to be sure. What are you eating? If you are trying gluten free foods, like the cereals/breads and such, you might...
  8. A question about your difficulty walking - do you limbs feel kind of, hmm, 'heavy' or 'tired' with that? Just combined with the vertigo, leg pain, and brain fog, it makes me wonder if you are suffering from gluten ataxia. Have you ever gone to a neurologist who is knowledgeable about this? A small % of celiacs suffer from neurological issues as well as...

    ARCHIVED Vinegar...

Sorry I missed this! Actually, I made it from a 'food scraps vinegar' recipe on-line. Usually, you use the grapefruit peels and add a little juice and sugar and water. I can't do the sugar, so I added more of the juice - we'll see if it works. The sugar is an important part of the vinegar, for a food source. For the apple cider vinegar, I even understand...

    ARCHIVED ADD

Don't know if this might be the issue, but I'll share my own stuff in case it helps! I had depression, big-time, and my daughter had the huge anxiety issues. Likely we would have been diagnosed with ADD if I'd gone to the doc - we had lots of the symptoms. What our problem has turned out to be: 1. Some food allergies and sensitivities (some tested...
  11. Thanks for this! my husband goes to San fran all the time. I'll have to tell him about this! shauna
  12. There is research, but there's no research on this that doesn't have a skew towards the less sensitive celiacs, least not that anyone seems to know about. I couldn't find any, and I started emailing some of the celiac research centers in the US. They either told me they didn't know of any without this bias either, or directed me to research that HAD the bias...
  13. Actually, I get the impression that it's not the slicer that's the biggest concern but rather that the slicer is in an area that is a bad cc risk. All the food is being prepared in the same area, the sandwiches, pasta salads, etc... Their official warning at the moment is: "We recommend that individuals attempting to eliminate gluten from their diets not...
  14. Short answer: nope. It can't be. The Endomysial Antibodies test? It is not as sensitive as some of the other tests, so it can give false negatives. However, it is 'virtually 100%' specific for ONLY Celiac Disease. So since you were positive on that test, you've got Celiac Disease, not non-celiac gluten intolerance. ( Open Original Shared Link ) As an...
  15. 1. If I'm sure the ingredients listed on a food don't contain gluten, is it safe to eat if it doesn't say it's gluten-free? Honestly, my answer would be 'assume not.' The issue at hand is cross-contamination. As an example of what level of cc can be an issue, I'll give the example of my friend and her celiac 2 year old. She was eating a burger, had a sip...
  16. I just came across a company that looks like they might be of use for really sensitive celiacs particularly, so I'm putting it up here! :-) Open Original Shared Link They make oat products specifically - oats and some oat based baking mixtures - which means I can't have it, so I haven't tried this personally. However, on calling them, they have dedicated...
  17. Might be possible? I've seen some research that suggests that some hormonal changes may affect sexuality in the womb. However, some twin research on the same subject has shown that this isn't the end all, be all, because there are very often twins with one twin gay and one straight. There are also some differences between men and women and sexuality that...
  18. That was my experience, too. I hunted around my town, found a GI who was recommended by my local celiac assocation, and he was MUCH better. He tests for vitamin deficiencies, checks for other conditions that often go along with the disease, for other food allergies, has an allergist who he works with closely - SUCH a different experience. Oh, before...
  19. For whatever bizarre reason, companies often put different ingredients in, depending on the country a product is distributed to. Maybe just what's more available in the closest production factory's area? Don't know if you saw, but she bought hers outside the US and Canada.
  20. So sorry it's been so difficult, although I'd agree with many here - you have tons of symptoms, just not gut ones (although the nausea seems like gut to me, honestly). I don't have gut ones myself, except after going gluten free, I realized that if I get glutened multiple times in a row I'll get constipation. But that's it. My stomach NEVER hurts from gluten...
  21. Most of the coping mechanisms we do probably wouldn't work for a child that young, but also? Not that effective, either. Most of the time, we just have to put on the compassion hat and and ride them out. My daughter is 12 now and she just about loses her mind when she's glutened. Almost suicidal, and it scares the crap out of me! I have heard from a friend...
  22. I've had trouble with their broths and...I think a tomato soup, it was? My daughter has too, but her reaction was milder, and similar to the one that can be caused by a couple of the foods that she can't tolerate, so that was less certain. shauna
  23. Always so frustrating when this happens, isn't it? There was an issue like that with Walmart last year, where they had foods that had been gluten free, but they DID change their ingredient label. They started to add wheat. No announcement or anything, just that one extra added word on the label. So if you were having an off day and not checking the label...
  24. My kids have both had problems with their hotdogs, and my daughter couldn't handle some of their sliced meats (although my son seemed fine, but he's less sensitive).
  25. My daughter has had issues with Amy's, too, yeah. Not all the time - and she's tried multiple products. We finally had to give them up, though. she might be fine for 2-3 times in a row, and then the next time she'd be very sick. It wasn't worth the risk for us. Kinnickinick worked the best for my daughter, out of all of them, although we didn't try that...
