  1. The one I've been using is Bariani Olive oil. We order ours on-line, although I have seen it in a few stores in California when I've visited there, as well.
  2. They don't add any gluten ingredients, but they are not explicitly gluten free when it comes to avoiding gluten cc, either. I tried these early on in the diet, but while a few bags were fine, I've also been glutened badly by them twice. The second time, we finally said good by to the chips. Really bummed, too, because they seemed like a good bet!
  3. Ditto and Ditto again! And to add: I'm sick and tired of adults who think they always know better than a child. The ones who get angry at my child and her 'stubbornness' and 'disrespect' because she says "I'm sorry, I can't eat that. It's not safe for me."
  4. Okay, let's see. First, I suppose the biggest question is: what are your symptoms? If it's gut only, that might suggest certain things. If it's gut and other issues, that might suggest other problems to some of the folks here who have had to deal with all that good stuff. For the food you are living off of...yeah, I'd drop a lot of it, honestly. It...
  5. Yeah - I honestly have no idea how she does it! I think I would go nuts, honestly. Especially as she was laid off when she was 8 months pregnant, hasn't been able to find a job yet, and so she and hubby are living with the in-laws right now. It's a house with gluten everywhere, so she has to constantly watch the itty bitty to make sure he hasn't found a crumb...
  6. She hasn't had her midget tested for allergies, but she knows he has them. His worst is squash, where even touch will set off hives and cheek rashes. Her son has also had turkey before without issue, not of course that this means anything necessarily when allergies pop up. They're going to be checking him with previous turkey again just to see, however...
  7. Some other information that might help us folks here see what we can brainstorm with would be: Are you living in a household with other gluten eaters? Are you dating or married to someone who eats gluten? Do you have pets? What are they fed? Do you work in the food industry where gluten is around? Do you work in construction? Did you buy any new equipment...
  8. If you were only eating gluten for a week before the endo, then yes, it can give incorrect results, but it would be results in the opposite direction. You might get a false negative, not a false positive, though. If there was villi damage, that's pretty damning for celiac disease. A few parasites can do that too, however, if I recall right. But it's still...
  9. Has anyone tried the Kroger brand seasoned turkey burgers lately? They are now labeled as gluten free. Any bad reactions, or have they been safe for you? A good friend has a little 2 year old that is having a horrid gluten reaction today and the only new food they have introduced is these turkey burgers. The burgers, it turns out, aren't made on a gluten...
  10. Re: the gluten free tamari. You can totally pull an erudite chef moment with this one. Tamari, without wheat, is actually the original soy sauce as it was first used; wheat was included in soy sauce at a later date, partially because it mellows the flavor somewhat. So some traditional asian dishes will often call for tamari rather than soy sauce. The...
  11. So glad that your current GP is so good at listening to his patients and pays attention. And congratulations on finally starting to see some improvement!
  12. Good luck to you, hon! A quick question...he wasn't performing the endo FOR celiac disease, right? He's just checking to see what else was going on and thinks celiac disease might have been part of the issue, yes? I only ask because you've been on the gluten-free diet for a year now, so there'd be nothing to find on the endo for that unless you've been...
  13. My father, brother, and daughter all have it, along with myself. My son's symptoms go away, even though he tested negative. Of the 2nd-3rd cousins we keep in touch with, half of them have stomach problems nearly every day. Another few have had all sorts of physical problems, like tumors and heart issues and such, that their doctors are confused over, telling...
  14. Oh dear god, yes. The worst is when I'm not paying attention and walk right into the middle of a gluten aisle. I'll get hit with brain fog and vertigo out of nowhere and suddenly realize where I am, but then it's too late. I can usually make it back home - not always - and then I'm out cold for about 4-5 hours. I've started to carry around little hygiene...
  15. If you do decide to go for sea salt, to avoid the dextrose or anti-caking agents in so much of the iodized salt, just make sure to up your sea food intake significantly or find a good iodine supplement. I did react to contamination in my salt, but I also react to pretty much all processed food, too. If you are eating processed food without much trouble...
  16. *sympathy hug!!* I know everyone has already said it, but I'll say it again: really, truly, it gets better. Never be the same, but better. One thing that can help is the fact that when the symptoms go away, LIFE is easier to deal with. I think in the beginning it is harder because not only is everything new - the loss, the diet, the cooking, the...

    ARCHIVED Yeaaaa - Sharing.

Arrrgh - missed the last few post on this! Thanks for the congrats, guys. :-D And I had no idea I was one of the first responders, IrishHeart! Happy to share...probably more than I should be, LOL. I think when I'm 95 or something, perhaps I'll learn to stop talking, but until then, I babble incessantly, heh. I think it could also be called...
  18. I'm in the same boat with Steph, where I have to buy things whole grain and grind them myself. Nuts I get at anuts.com, but these are unshelled, so they take a bit of work to make into a flour-like consistency. I haven't bothered yet, honestly! Beans, including chickpeas that I know are often used as a flour in Indian cuisine, I get from rancho gordo...

    Brain Lesions

I couldn't say that MS can be completely ruled out - celiacs tend to be in a higher risk category for developing other auto-immune disorders - but I CAN say that white matter brain lesions can be related to Celiac Disease, it's believed. white matter brain lesions in Celiac Disease There's been more than one study on this type of thing - neurological...
  20. So sorry it zapped you so badly! If I ever find a gluten-free cereal that seems really safe, I swear I'm going to put it up here so darn fast! Hope it passes soon, and the depression gives you a miss this time.
  21. If your little one does have celiac disease, which seems like a possibility, the weight will make your doctors even less likely to diagnose it, or test for it. Until recently, many medical texts had the now-known-to-be-false information that celiacs were always very thin and wasted away. However, doctors have since discovered that one can be celiac and...
  22. This one I might have an answer for ya. :-) When I was checking out corn (which was a couple years back, so the info. may be out of date), it was nearly impossible to find corn that wasn't processed in a facility that also processes wheat, at least in North America. There is one factory down in Mexico that did (Maseca brand), but I heard rumors that this...
  23. I don't think you're crazy to want to check this out, not at all. He's in a high risk category of a disease that is still poorly understood, on the rise in the population, and under-diagnosed - and can cause long term, debilitating problems if left undiagnosed. So...a little diet change and disruption to routine now to test where he has it vs. potentially...
  24. Just a quick reply to the original question (oh, a few months late, eek.). Usually, I'm completely grain free. Every once in a while I try a grain, and so far, it has bombed out every time. Honestly, I am not certain if this is because the grains themselves are bad, or if the contamination of the grains is what is getting me. Some grains I...
  25. You might be thinking of products that use soaking water to sprout seeds or to 'process' some of the ingredients. Sometimes, especially with sprouted grains, barley water is used for that process but not listed on the label.
