ARCHIVED Confused. Have Lab Results, Waiting To Hear From Dr
Dixiebell replied to quigleyla's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! Sorry, I am not good with the test results but many others here are. If you are done with all of your testing you can start the gluten free lifestyle. -
ARCHIVED My 3 Year Old Son Please Help!
Dixiebell replied to Hadensmotherchristina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry to hear your son is going through this. If he has dermatitis herpetiformis, he has celiac. A dermatologist can do a biopsy next to the lesion to see if that is it. He can also have a celiac blood test. The endoscopy would be what they would do to look for celiac not the colonoscopy. -
ARCHIVED My 6 Year Old Suffers Wwith Constipation
Dixiebell replied to gemstar8069's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son was severely constipated, the Dr. found out by x-ray. He had him take the full dose of miralax everyday. I honestly do not remember how long he was on it. Maybe two months. Finally he started having more regular bm's and we were able to lessen the dose to 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and now he does't need it at all. I believe what miralax does is it helps more water... -

Not sure if anyone has heard about this yet. Open Original Shared Link -
Welcome to the forum! There have been some recent posts about that type of pain. If you use Search Forum you will be able to find a lot of information from other posters. Give yourself some more time. One week is not very long. You may notice some changes in a couple of weeks or months. Be patient, it will come. Did you stop all gluten products or just...

ARCHIVED How Long For Weight Loss?
Dixiebell replied to stellagogo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome! Are you celiac or gluten intolerant? Ten days is not very long. The weight loss will be different for everyone. Make sure you are not eating a lot of gluten free replacement foods as they can have more calories. Eat meats, veggies and fruits. You might want to cut down on salt for a while and see if that helps too. -
ARCHIVED When Just Being In A Restaurant Makes You Sick
Dixiebell replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since they bake the bread there, my guess is that flour can get into everything. You could take your own drink and a few snacks in a small lunch bag or your purse and just don't make anything of it. Or just eat before you go and just bring a drink. So many people carry their own reuseable cups everywhere. Then if you still have problems I would bring it up... -
ARCHIVED My Three Year Old Daughter
Dixiebell replied to BeHappy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is a learning curve but it does get easier. She will learn what she can and can't have. You will too. You will also make some mistakes along the way, everyone does. My son told me a few days ago, the one thing he missed the most is goldfish crackers. Everything else we have been able to make ourselves or buy pre-made. -How is she supposed to get through... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Does A Gluten Free Diet Need To Be?
Dixiebell replied to Courtney101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lots of people have all the symptoms of celiac but test negative for it. The tests are not 100%. They have a high false negative rate. These people eat gluten-free and their symptoms resolve. Gluten can also damage other organs (brain, skin, bladder, liver, nerves, etc.) not just the intestine. -
ARCHIVED Sleeping Through The Night
Dixiebell replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's a hard one to answer. Is she in pain when she wakes up? Is something possibly scaring her? These are just ideas so bear with me- Maybe you could put her in bed a little later. My children have always looked at books for a little while until they got sleepy. Do you have a night light in the room? Is she watching tv up until bed time? If so you might... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Does A Gluten Free Diet Need To Be?
Dixiebell replied to Courtney101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, cutting back will not be enough. If you are still ingesting gluten, and if it is causing your problems, you will continue to have problems. If you have a wheat or gluten intolerance you should be just as strict as if you were diagnosed celiac. Those tests have a high false negative rate. What you could do is eat gluten free for three months and then... -
ARCHIVED Anxious About Thanksgiving
Dixiebell replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wouldn't eat the turkey if stuffing is cooked inside it. Also I have heard that some turkeys are labeled gluten free, that makes me wonder if some turkeys are injected with gluten containing liquids. I guess I will be resaerching that soon. Why don't you cook some safe items at home and take them with you? My daughter is now eating gluten-free and she... -
ARCHIVED Bread/pasta = Nausea
Dixiebell replied to ScullyFord's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The low vitamin levels and the fact that foods with gluten make you sick is enough evidence, IMO, to say you have a problem with gluten. The endoscopy can only reach so far, so it is possible for the Dr. to miss the damage or the damage may be patchy. Just make sure you get copies of your results because I have heard of some being told they don't have any... -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative, Now What?
Dixiebell replied to enolah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
During her last trial on gluten free/dairy free diet, I was not using separate cooking utensils. I am however, meticulous with cleaning and always ran the utensils through the high temp/sanitizing cycles in the dishwasher. She never shared the toaster, condiments, margarine or anything else a knife could have contaminated. That could have been the... -
ARCHIVED Mystery Rash
Dixiebell replied to hazelbrown10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son had small patches of dry looking skin for years. He was very sensitive to shampoo and soaps. I buy sensitive body wash for him and the suave children's shampoo seem to be ok. After him being gluten free and extremely light on dairy his scaly patches have disappeared. Now he does have some new spots, they are not scaly and are not causing him any... -
ARCHIVED ? Advice Needed About 4-Year Old?
Dixiebell replied to rmack's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you all for your input. The issue is so volatile in my family because of my mother's near-death experience; my siblings, Doctor, and husband is very negative about it all and think it's been blown way out of proportion.I only wish there was a 100% positive test available. Any advice about negotiating family relationships through this? You... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative, Now What?
Dixiebell replied to enolah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think she should try gluten free, at the very least, for three months. The six weeks may not have been long enough. She said it helped a little, that's good, she may have started to heal. Everyone heals at different rates and she may just take a little longer. Was she cheating? Does she have other intolerances? I have read that it takes some a year or longer... -
ARCHIVED Unsure Whether This Had Gluten In It Or Not
Dixiebell replied to smile's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are interested, I found at my local store Savory Choice liquid broth concentrate. They had beef and chicken. I got the chicken and really like it. It says gluten free and no msg. Ingredients: chicken stock, natural flavor, salt, chicken fat, sugar, maltodextrin, yeast extract and xanthan gum. It makes 4 cups per pouch. 4 pouches per package. -
ARCHIVED To Scope, Or Not To Scope?
Dixiebell replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hopefully he will become more understanding with time. My husband and I had a few heated arguements over the gluten issue. He is actually not criticing the way I want things done now. It took several months for him to come around. Our son is a scout and I think my husband being around other children with other allergies etc. has shown him that our son isn... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism - Tsh 3.6
Dixiebell replied to cincichick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So basically you have done a gluten challange by eating gluten free and then reintroducing gluten into your diet. If eating gluten makes you sick you shouldn't eat it. If after a few months gluten free you still aren't feeling better and you have some money saved, then you can get your thyroid checked. I would probably look for a new Dr. that can accept...
