ARCHIVED Marble Rolling Pins
kareng replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a marble one. Funny thing is, when I roll out gluten-free dough of any kind, I put plastic wrap on the top and bottom so it doesn't stick! But.... I don't really see what is wrong with your wooden one? Your kids might have had a teeny bit of gluten on their hands when they used it ? Just wash it off! If any gluten got on it, it probably fell... -

ARCHIVED New Member - 40 Years Undiagnosed
kareng replied to Sheri F's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just remember, you need to be eating gluten to make the antibodies that are tested for. Open Original Shared Link "Antibody tests are only accurate when a patient is on a gluten-containing diet. Those concerned about celiac disease are strongly discouraged from starting a gluten-free diet without having had a firm diagnosis. Any change in the diet... -

ARCHIVED Possibly Contaminated Nutbag?
kareng replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My sink isn't supposed to have bleach or acids - just clean with some dish soap. If yours is metal or that ceramic stuff, you can clean with anything. -
ARCHIVED Possibly Contaminated Nutbag?
kareng replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry- my dirty mind at work...... Lol Is it machine washable? If there weren't a bunch of obvious crumbs, that would be enough for me. -
ARCHIVED Possibly Contaminated Nutbag?
kareng replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you never wash your sink - you should be worried about the germs and salmonella and listeria, etc in it. My suggestion is to wash your sink every so often. Lol I am not sure what a "nut bag" is in this circumstance. I can think of a few definitions of " nut bag" and don't see how they would drop in the sink. So I'm thinking this is a mesh bag? I... -
I think I wouldn't be bothered by this. I am not sure I would even want to eat the carrot sticks with all the gluten around it. I prefer to not eat what others bring - even if I know it's gluten-free because of cc issues and it seems to encourage people to try to make me gluten-free food that isn't safe. For instance, I ate something once that I knew...

ARCHIVED No Digestive Symptoms...could It Still Be Celiac?
kareng replied to artzombie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. It could be Celiac. There are many symptoms of Celiac and the digestive ones aren't always present or evident ( you don't realize it's not " normal"). Persistent Anemias are the way many of us get a diagnosis. You would want to get your blood tests before going gluten free to rule out Celiac. 1 month gluten-free isn't really long enough to cure... -

ARCHIVED 12 Year Son Dx 3 Weeks Ago
kareng replied to worriedmomof2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are wanting to continue with further testing - a endoscopy - he will need to continue eating gluten or add it back in later. Usually, it is easier to just keep eating gluten. Adding it back can be hard. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Did Your Child Have Esr Tested?
kareng replied to cmc811's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think mine was odd because of the anemia caused by the Celiac. Once the intestines healed, the anemia got better and so did a lot of other odd blood tests related to anemia. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Two Weeks gluten-free And Some Questions
kareng replied to Stacy0w's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Its only been 2 weeks....you won't be perfect yet. And it can take a few weeks to get the new routine at your house figured out and working. Also, as you start absorbing food better (heal), any meds you take may be absorbed better, too. That may account for some of your face breaking out. Get some over the counter vitamin D and B12. That might... -
ARCHIVED Blueberry Muffins Haaaaalp
kareng replied to Serielda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Try this? Open Original Shared Link "....A dash of flour will help blueberries defy gravity for the very simple reason that the flour makes them stick to the batter and stay put. Just toss blueberries with a tablespoon of flour before folding in. But use flour from the recipe—don't add extra; that will keep your ingredient ratios even. As always, ... -
ARCHIVED Handling School Snacks
kareng replied to kcraft08's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess I don't understand why you would let him eat anything another parent tried to give him? He is too young to know what he can and can't eat and read ingredients. You have seen that you can't count on the teacher to police his food - she probably has her hands full. I would tell my kid and the teachers "Do not eat anything I haven't provided". Give... -
ARCHIVED Help With My Test Results Please.
kareng replied to nettinpete's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An allergy test has nothing to do with Celiac disease. Celiac is not an allergy to grasses or wheat. -
ARCHIVED Help With My Test Results Please.
kareng replied to nettinpete's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also, if you are going to have an endoscopy, you shouldn't stop eating gluten. And 1 month off gluten might not be enough time to see a significant drop in the numbers. People seem to keep making antibodies for a few weeks after they stop eating gluten. And a big reason they don't drop to 0 is that a month may not be enougt time for you to get all the... -

ARCHIVED Talk Me Down From The Edge...
kareng replied to africanqueen99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would stick with the experts on this. Here is the current thought on genes - Open Original Shared Link Can you have celiac disease without having the genes for it? This topic raises much debate. The current thought shared by the many physicians and scientists is that 1-2% of celiacs may not possess the celiac-specific genes HLA-DQ2 and/or DQ8. Our... -
