  1. My son has problems with main stream toothpaste. Causes his gums to swell and get canker sores. It isn't about gluten it is some other ingredient, maybe sulphites, that bothers him. He gets some all natural type of toothpaste. Its free of sulphites, and lots of other things like this one. Open Original Shared Link
  2. I think if you do something harmful, repeatedly, to make yourself lose weight, then you have an eating disorder.
  3. Were you already eating gluten-free when you got tested?
  4. If you have Celiac disease, then no amount of gluten is acceptable. So no taking the burger off the bun, eating non gluten-free oats, etc. Knowing that you have Celiac would let you know how careful you need to be and any other medical issues you need to keep track of. It is best to get tested for celiac before going gluten free because you need to...
  5. Take vitamins if you need them. You have some parts of your intestines that are healthy.
  6. They sound like Celiac Disease, not a vague sensitivity/ intolerance. Get tested before going gluten free. This website has a lot of good info: Open Original Shared Link Also: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  7. Routine blood work doesn't test for Celiac. It is a specific set of tests.
  8. Stool samples don't check for celiac disease. celiac disease is not an allergy, by the way. Lactose intolerance can also cause a lot of gas. Go to your doctor and get the blood test for Celiac before you eat gluten-free.
  9. I thought maybe ladybug stew! Edited to fix an odd typo
  10. Monday night - Crockpot beef stew Tue - Chicken noodles/ almost soup - I make a chicken soup base - broth, chicken, garlic, carrots and peas. Then added Schar noodles to bowls and the "soup" to the bowls. My hub and son don't like a lot of broth so they got extra noodles. I made brown rice and added it to the rest of the "soup". We now have chicken...
  11. My SIL has an allergy? Intolerance? to eggs. For a long time she could eat them in a baked good but not scrambled eggs or quiches, etc. she said that in a cake 3 eggs is spread over 10 servings. In a quiche, 3 eggs is 1 serving. Basically. I think what she meant was she could have a little once in a while. Unfortunately, now, she doesn't like to have...
  12. Once again - There currently is no scientific proof for cross-reactivity in Celiac disease. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/archives/faq/whats-with-all-the-talk-about-certain-types-of-food-causing-cross-reactivity "There is not yet reliable data about cross-reactivity. As for the alleged possibility that many gluten-free foods or drinks (such as...
  13. A urine sample? celiac isn't tested by urine sample. Glucose might be tested that way? It is when you are pregnant. But not celiac.
  14. I can't believe your eye doc is letting you wear any contacts if you are getting ulcers that often! You need to go to an actual eye MD! Maybe get tested for Sjorgen's,too. That is an autoimmune disorder often found with Celiac, that gives you dry eyes as one of the symptoms. I have very dry eyes and use the best daily dry eye contacts and you are still...
  15. You might not need to eat as much gluten as you think. Open Original Shared Link
  16. All the info on this bread is 5 years old so re- check everything. I don't worry about mascara. I don't think it will accidentally get in my mouth.
  17. Can your hub or the kitchen make hard boiled eggs. You could keep them in a little cooler. I think you can even buy them in the egg section at some groceries. Nuts, nut butters, etc. there are shelf stable pepperonis, beef jerky and salamis that are gluten-free. A lawyer that deals in malpractice might also be helpful. Someone to put the fear of...
  18. THAT IS REALLY SERIOUS! Your family needs to get you to the hospital if you are having a seizure or a stroke!

    ARCHIVED Newbie Intro

Sounds like the doctor wanted to make sure you know that Celiac is serious and you really need to follow the diet. Most of these risks go away if you are gluten-free. The anemia, fatigue, etc should go away after a while gluten-free. Once you are healed, your intestines will be able to absorb the iron, vit D, etc that you need and that will improve the...
  20. I'm sorry you lost the baby but I am going to blunt. This applies to you as you are the "undiagnosed" Celiac. In this case, they assume that a diagnosed Celiac would be following the gluten-free diet. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I am going to say that I think you are not ready to have a baby. Until you are...
  21. In the bay area you should be able to find support groups, lots of "health conscious places" to post. If you live anywhere near a university, maybe you could put something on their internet roommate board. I have heard Sac has some gluten-free resources. Tahoe is health conscious, so you might be able to find someone eating gluten-free, Celiac or not....
  22. I was just at the International Celiac Disease Symposium. They were saying that they really don't know anything definite about NCGS. They have a few preliminary studies. One found that NCGS patients that reacted well to a gluten-free diet might actually have FODMAP issues. Basically, this is an issue with breaking down large sugar molecules. As wheat...
  23. Do you have local Celiac or GIG support group? Maybe you could look for roommates there?
