  1. Just an FYI - These posts are from 2008. Most or all of these posters are not current posters. We have some more recent threads about nightshades.
  2. I have 2 boys now 17 and 20 & 6 ft and 6'1. They had a couple of years where they didn't really grow. Its normal. It's also hard to tell, when you see them everyday if they are growing. I always bought their clothes a bit big and they often wore them out before they outgrew them. One bought the same size shoes for 2 years and then jumped 3 sizes...
  3. Just go to your GP. Do it quickly & maybe add a little gluten into your diet until you get it done. 30% of the population have the gene for Celiac so, just having the gene does not mean you have Celiac Disease.
  4. SOrry. Read that wrong. Still would be good to know what else they tested for. Also, stay on gluten for the endo
  5. let's try this again. - What Celiac tests did they actually take? I find it odd that they used this old test so I am wondering if they really did a more accurate Celiac test. That's why we ask. It is always a good idea to get copies of any tests or procedures you have done - Celiac or otherwise. Unfortunately, patients need to keep an eye on their own...
  6. We replace cooking tools that we can not be certain have no gluten in the cracks and crevices. If you can clean them well, they are fine. A colander would be hard to clean out every little hole. A pan, like cast iron, that has cracks or pores, would be hard to clean. Just use a little common sense - if its cleanable -it should be fine.
  7. What other tests did they do? That test isn't the best test to run for Celiac but I know a lot of labs seem to pad their Celiac panel with it. I guess they can charge more? You should be eating some gluten everyday if you are still getting checked for Celiac disease.
  8. Hopefully they will check that she isn't anemic. Does the spit taste weird & that is why she doesn't want to swallow? That could be anemia or maybe a cavity or other tooth or mouth issue. They may want to test her thyroid, too.
  9. Lots of people have lactose issues - with or without Celiac.
  10. At the. International Celiac Disease Symposium a few weeks ago, most of the doctors said they only test with TTG IGA and total serum IGA. But the problem with this is, if the total serum IGA is low, you have to go back and get the TTG IGG done. So maybe get them all done at once? Only about 5% have a low Serum IGA, so I guess, by the odds, , it's more...
  11. Was looking up LabCorp as that is the one my insurance uses for tests. It said this for either the blood or the mouth swabs: "Limitations: Even with appropriate precautions, an occasional specimen may not be satisfactory for testing. In such cases, fresh specimens should be collected for retesting."
  12. at 15 slices per loaf and $6 a loaf = $28 a day for bread! I guess if you ate 72 pieces of bread, you wouldn't be able to eat any more food....so you might save some money that way? But don't come on here and complain about the D or C you got from eating all that bread!
  13. And Canyon tests at less than 5 ppm so.... Maybe 72 pieces of bread?
  14. That sounds like the sample that was sent to them for genetic testing was bad. Perhaps the lab that drew the blood didn't prepare it properly? Or a mouth swab that had food or biotene mouth wash coating the inside of the mouth? Maybe they would consider running it again on a "good" sample? maybe you or the doc should take that to the lab that made the...
  15. An easy explanation of how 20ppm works in our lives. Please remember: Some gluten-free food manufacturers currently use more sensitive testing (10ppm or 5 ppm). I doubt they will change that to 20 ppm just because of this new law. And :Just because something tests at less than 20 ppm or 10 ppm, that does not mean it has 19 ppm or 9 ppm. It could...
  16. This reminds me - take everything out of the kitchen drawers, wash them and the drawers. Drawers tend to get left open a crack and collect crumbs. I buy red spoons, hot pads, red duct tape, red colander, red measuring cups, etc. Red has become the color of gluten-free in our house. Red isn't my favorite color but its easy to get red cooking utensils...
  17. At the ICDS, the doctors were saying that a TTG of over 100 means Celiac. I guess it doesn't get that high with other diseases. They still want to biopsy, especially adults or patients they think might have other issues. They can do a colonoscopy at the same time and rule out a lot of additional problems. The endoscopy isn't an operation. It takes, at...
  18. My guys don't care if its gluten-free as long as Mom buys it and fixes it. One of their friends ate pasta with us a couple of times - simple jarred salsa & cheese baked on top. He wanted to know how I made it so really good. Open Original Shared Link
  19. The doctors I heard speak said it is rarer than 3% of Celiacs & if someone doesn't have the genes, they don't have Celiac. Basically, it is extremely rare if anyone without the genes actually has Celiac.
  20. I think that has happened to everyone. Colleen, we used to do the 2 different pastas. I would make my son "tend" the gluten pasta. Then it just go to be too big of a hassle trying to keep the spoons separate, etc. Now we just all eat the same pasta and no one minds.
  21. I gave you a link. Trying not to diagnose you or scare you but - get your liver checked. Get checked for other AI diseases. Chron's? Colitis? I'm sorry. It's highly unlikely you have Celiac. What was the result of your colonoscopy biopsies? That is likely your problem.
  22. I understand which genes they test for. I don't see any reason gene tests from Prometheus wouldn't be accurate. I think it is a standard CYA disclaimer with gene tests to say they have a 99.9% accuracy. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  23. I don't really understand the genetics results? Are they saying you do not have either of the .celiac genes so that makes it very very unlikely that you have Celiac?
  24. Just a few things to look into Open Original Shared Link
  25. Yep! I went out for beer and pizza last night! Yum! Going to Pf Changs tonight!
