ARCHIVED Baby Has To Have A Biospy?! Nervous!
kareng replied to mmcc54's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is hard to get a positive blood test from a small child because they have not been eating gluten for very long and they don't always make the antibodies in large enough quantities to get a positive test. I'm looking for a link to that info and will attach it here: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
I wish they would have one here!

If you want experts, you could email the Univ of Chicago Celiac center: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Can you become more sensitive to gluten over time? You may become more sensitive, or it will be more evident, when exposed to gluten after it has been absent from your diet for a length of time. -

ARCHIVED Anyone With Confirmed Diagnosis But Constipation Not D?
kareng replied to Khickson1980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are tests for Celiac disease. A gastro or a regular physician can do the blood test. Is that what you mean? There are allergy tests but those would be done by an allergist. I understand that the food allergy tests aren't always accurate.. The only tests for food intolerances is to eliminate them and see how you feel. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Picnic
kareng replied to Brandiwine's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well.. that makes it harder. I'm afraid the cookies aren't vegan. I think my family doesn't mind that all the food is gluten-free but if it was all vegan....I don't think they would come over. However, I would be happy to come to your vegan BBQ and you can send them to the one for my hub's dad that will have steaks and lots of gluten. If only... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Goldfish Crackers!
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found the goldfish today at Target. Apparently, they are being released this week or next "Officially". They are tasty but I like the Van's better. These do not have the same crisp texture that a real goldfish cracker has. They aren't quite like a cheese curl puffed. Maybe I can best compare the texture to a vanilla wafer? Kind of dense. They... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Picnic
kareng replied to Brandiwine's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always have everyone over and I make everything. I let my sis make a gluten dessert if we can keep the desserts separate and don't set them out until after all the food is done with. And sausages - most in the US are gluten-free. But it might be a matter of then you would need buns. Buns are like $6 for 4. I find it easier to grill things like pork... -
ARCHIVED Me Too, Me Too! Endoscopy Report- Need Help With Results, Please.

ARCHIVED Me Too, Me Too! Endoscopy Report- Need Help With Results, Please.
kareng replied to nosy parker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They didn't give you the whole pathology report. A path report has to have things on it like the number & sizes of the biopsied pieces. It will say how the pieces are presented. You got only the final diagnosis that a pathologist was willing to put down. I would insist on the whole report. If that is the whole procedure report, it is lacking also... -

kareng replied to mattthom77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, here is one less thing to worry about: Open Original Shared Link What’s with all the talk about certain types of food causing “cross-reactivity?” There is no data about cross-reactivity. As for the alleged possibility that many gluten-free foods or drinks (such as coffee, milk, orange juice, etc.) would trigger symptoms in celiac indiv... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Before Endoscopy
kareng replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This assumes you have stopped eating gluten so I think a half a slice a day would keep you glutened up. Open Original Shared Link What is a gluten challenge? A gluten challenge is the period of time when gluten is added back into a person’s diet to assist in the diagnosis of celiac disease. Antibodies take time to build into the blood stream b... -

ARCHIVED Dental Cleaning Products
kareng replied to durrsakja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The hygienists at my dentist checked everything for gluten and have the emails to prove it. My dentist has no clue, but the real brains behind the man have it down. None of the stuff they use has gluten. Is it possible to react because of another allergy? Sure. But the question was about gluten. -
Look what was just posted on Facebook by the Univ of Chicago Celiac Center: "While some persons with celiac disease may be clinically less reactive to barley or rye compared to wheat, the damage to the intestine is likely still occurring since they all contain gluten"

If he can't keep his gluten to himself.....out it goes! Not meant to comment on your house as I don't know what you have set up. Just some info for someone thinking about their house. Now at my house, mistakes get made and I don't get mad as long as they "fix" the mistakes. for example, M (17) was making a gluten pizza with a little pre-made pizza...
