  1. We use Old El Paso. No soy, dairy or gluten. Plenty of corn.
  2. You can find out a lot about SCD from this thread: Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
  3. Um, he fabricates stories. Open Original Shared Link
  4. EM! Tomorrow he is supposed to be in Montreal. The Ottawa event is Wednesday, at 7:30. The Open Original Shared Link describes itself as a pub, but food is served as well, so the license is probably a dining room or dining lounge. Both of those categories allow for persons of all ages to enter. They have a separate function room, which may be where the event...
  5. My type 1 diabetes diagnosis came in March of 1986. The diagnosis of celiac disease came in the summer of 2000, fourteen years later. My celiac symptoms became overt in 1995, but I had had digestive issues for decades. I am the only diagnosed celiac in the family. I strongly suspect that my father also has celiac disease, but he says he doesn't and so...
  6. At the top of the screen, click on My Controls. In the menu on the left, click Edit Profile Information. Blank out the custom member title, and then click Amend my profile at the bottom.
  7. Jess needs grain-free kitty food. Here a few ideas for dry food: Wellness CORE (50% protein from turkey, chicken, whitefish and salmon); Merrick BG (Before Grain) (three single-protein formulas: chicken, tuna & salmon ~36% protein); Taste of the Wild (42% protein from chicken, venison, salmon and ocean fish).
  8. You people want all the secrets at once? Sheesh! Okay, to do multiple quotes from a single post requires a bit more work. Here's one way. When you are in the reply box, with the quote(s) present, select the quote you are interested in by dragging the mouse over the entire quote. Copy it by pressing <ctrl>C and then click where you want another...
  9. You click the "+Quote" button, turning it red, in all the posts to which you want to respond with a quotation. Then, when you have selected all of them, use the "Add Reply" button at the bottom of the page. The reply window will open, with all of the selected posts quoted in the order that you selected them. Type your own text outside the quotes for ease...
  10. My onset time is six to twelve hours after exposure. Severe symptoms last a couple of days; milder ones last about a week.
  11. Again? Why not, after a few times, what is another? When we rescued a cat in 1995, we dubbed him Max. We later learned that he had been known as Blackie. He passed away in 1998. Thomas, whom we rescued in 1998, had been known as "Roadie" by his previous owner (short for Road Kill). Thomas passed away from a stroke last year. Becky, our gray...
  12. Well, the storm front has passed, and is now moving in Emily's direction. It seems to have taken my energy with it. I'm ready to call it an early night. Somebody bought a fiddle on eBay for $24.99 (plus shipping). Wuz it our Jess? I have a meeting with my pillow in about 5 minutes...
  13. The temperature has risen slightly, the sky has darkened and a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued. The wind has picked up, and I hear thunder in the west. We have taken cover indoors.
  14. Tis a loverly afternoon here. It's sunny and 27oC (80oF), and we are sitting out on the deck munching nachos & cheese.
  15. Yes, your described symptoms are consistent with celiac disease, but there could be other causes. Any doctor can order the blood tests to screen for celiac, but an endoscopy to look for damage to the villi would be done by a gastrointestinal (GI) specialist. The key blood tests are tTG-IgA and total serum IgA. If the former is positive and the latter...
  16. Is there something you haven't been telling us? I thought it wuz just me and Ptaum who participated in that particular morning ritual.... If you do go out, don't forget your bra.
  17. Bananas are definitely gluten-free. I think what Momma Goose meant was in reference to prepared cocktail mixes, some of which contain gluten.
  18. Distilled spirits are generally accepted as gluten-free, although a small percentage of celiacs react to gluten-grain based distillates. Vodkas vary in source. Some are potato. Some are derived from grains that contain gluten. Smirnoff is made from corn. Rum is not grain-based, and is thus always gluten-free. Some members have questioned it, but it is...

  20. Me too. It was 19 years ago. You just made up your mind and persevered. Judy, you can do it.
  21. It would be good to have a place where you can distinguish urban myth from reality regarding gluten. It is certainly not as easy to use as snopes, but I like to believe that this site is close as you can get. Because of the large number of members, and the number of post that they have made, most of the gluten myths have been discussed here at one time...
  22. In the USA, this is still under discussion, but it looks like <20 ppm is where it will end up. The unfortunate thing for consumers is that, as long as this is unclear, many manufacturers are reluctant to put "gluten-free" on a label--some who used to have it have removed it. In the meantime, there is no regulatory definition of "gluten-free" in the USA...
  23. Wish-bone is a Unilever brand, and they have a clear gluten disclosure policy. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley or oats listed by name, they aren't there. That does not mean all their dressings are gluten-free, you have to look at the label on the one you are interested it. But if there is a gluten source, the label will clearly disclose it.
  24. MSG is not gluten. Gluten is not MSG. They are distinct, although it is possible for a single ingredient to contain both. Avoiding one does not mean avoiding the other, although you may choose to avoid both. The list that you linked to is, in my opinion, full of half-truths, falsehoods, and outdated information. Try these links for useful information...
