  1. The Ottawa Police will be getting a new chief soon. It's political. Perhaps the new chief will need a special briefing. (The current chief has been appointed to a seat in the Senate of Canada.) My legs are all genuine, even if the middle one doesn't work as well as it once did.
  2. Hmmm. I worked in a place long, long ago, way before celiac disease, where the instructions to the night cleaners included emptying the fridge on Friday night, and then cleaning it. It was known if you asked, but was not prominently posted. On Monday morning the fridge was clean and empty.
  3. I'm here, but there isn't a lot I can offer. If you go to the "Board Rules/Privacy page by clicking on the link beside "View New Content," there are two links to contact us buried in the Forum Terms & Rules near the bottom, but they are not obvious. That is the only way to send a message here without being signed in. You could also send an email...
  4. You are just one week in. If you have celiac disease, your body has been damaged and will take time to heal. During the healing process, you may have an adverse reaction to something. That does not mean you got gluten, although that remains a possibility.
  5. General Mills will clearly disclose by name any gluten by naming the grain in the ingredients list. They did not, so there is no gluten.
  6. I agree with Roda. No worries there.
  7. Yeast, and yeast extract, are gluten-free. There are some questionable ingredients that are sometimes a source of gluten, but if they are in the ingredients list and the package also states "gluten-free" then you don't need to worry.
  8. 1. Where did you see "crisp rice" on the site? Which site? 2. "Crisp rice" is a possible source of gluten via malt flavor, but is not always. 3. This topic is almost five years old. The information may be long out of date.
  9. I am also a type 1. The general wisdom is to eat a combination of complex carbohydrates with protein at dinner, and supplement with a smaller, similar snack at bedtime. With celiac disease, it can be a challenge to find an appropriate carb source which is not also loaded with sugar. Glutino make some crackers which might work, combined with some hard cheese...
  10. Bulk Barn is a chain of franchised outlets. They have a lot of gluten-free products, some packaged, some in bulk. Unfortunately, without knowing the exact location where the purchase was made, the safety can not be judged. I was in one recently, and all of the gluten-free flours were together in a section which contained nothing else, and which was at...
  11. This topic is from the spring of 2009--information may be out of date.
  12. There is some debate on the question, but you can be intolerant to gluten while testing negatively for celiac disease. Some argue that that just means the celiac disease has not yet advanced far enough to trigger a positive test result.
  13. I didn't get DH, but I understand that itching is typical.
  14. The Open Original Shared Link IS the uppermost part of the small intestine.
  15. True dat! It is normal to grieve when faced with a life-changing situation. You may want to look into the "five stages of grief," as described by Elisabeth K
  16. No, there is no legal definition yet in the United States for "gluten-free."
  17. Please refer to your incoming personal messages.
  18. Under the "old" rules, up to 200 ppm could be labeled "gluten-free" in some cases. While not yet perfect, the EU is moving in the right direction.
  19. Champagne is a specific type of wine. Wine is gluten-free.
  20. If it says "may contain," that is a warning that there is a possibly of cross-contamination despite the manufacturer's efforts to avoid it. If it says "contains," then that means that the allergen is definitely present as an intentional ingredient.
  21. There is a correlation between celiac disease and type 1 diabetes, but it is not well understood. If you already have one, you are more likely than the general population to develop the other. Diabetes, especially type 1, is easy to diagnose, while celiac disease is frequently overlooked or thought to be something else. I developed late onset type 1 in...
  22. Welcome. If you are in the US, there are no major brands that we are aware of that contain gluten. Nathan's used to, but they changed their ingredients a couple of years back. Most mainstream food companies do not test for gluten. That does not mean the products are not safe to use. It means that they won't accept legal liability if something goes...
  23. Sulfites are a common allergen. In Canada, they make the top-ten list which must be disclosed.
  24. For the vast majority of people with celiac disease, any distilled alcohol is safe. A minority of us react to distilled alcohol from grain sources, although the reason is not clearly understood. The gluten molecule is huge, and science says that it cannot pass into the distillate, but there seem to be some fragments that do and they can cause problems for...
  25. In Canada, Campbell's will clearly disclose any gluten ingredient by naming the grain in the ingredients list. Products which do not list such an ingredient are likely safe for most of us. The products that are labeled Gluten-Free in Canada are subject to additional controls and testing. In Canada, the Campbell Soup Company has an ongoing project to review...
