  1. I can't imagine why there would be gluten in plain fruit juice. If anybody has a confirmed example, please share it.
  2. There is a difference between pointing someone to a recipe that they have asked for, which is fine, versus using every opportunity to promote your blog. The rule can be broken without posting a link.
  3. Coffeemate is gluten-free, but contains casein (dairy).
  4. Or, is it that there are more women diagnosed with celiac disease because they go to the doctor and keep pushing for an answer? Men may just ignore their symptoms and "man up" and live with them, or accept the "IBS" story. Just saying.
  5. In the upper right your screen name appears, with a pull-down menu to the right. Click on it and select "My Profile." When the profile page opens, click the blue "Edit my Profile" button. It is pretty intuitive after that.
  6. Lactose intolerance is common during recovery. Lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose, is produced in the tips of the villi. Depending on the extent of the damage to the villi, you may be lactose intolerant until they heal enough.
  7. Celiac disease seems to consist of a genetic factor, and activation by some trigger. Once activated, the disease causes an autoimmune reaction to gluten, producing antibodies that attack the villi. Surgery is commonly reported as a trigger. The trigger can be anything that puts stress on the body, especially stress on the immune system. Childbirth and...
  8. Short answer: You have Celiac Disease.
  9. I read it that she pigged out on the chips and dip. If I eat a large amount of French onion dip, I will be "tooting" away all day.
  10. For me, this was the twelfth gluten-free Christmas. I have two younger brothers, and the three of us take turns hosting the family Christmas gathering and dinner. There are eight of us--three wives, and our parents. None of us have children. It will be our turn again next year. We serve a totally gluten-free meal, and have never had a negative comment...
  11. Welcome. I'm in the Greater Toronto Area.
  12. This is an old topic, and the original poster has not been here in more than two years.
  13. Yes, and no. We each have a threshold where the amount of gluten is such that it overtakes the body's ability to heal. Small amounts of contact may or may not affect you. Do what you can to avoid them, but be practical. If you have an accident, do not assume that more will not do more damage. Do not eat a slice of pizza because you discovered an...
  14. OT comment: That depends on where you are. In Canada, Campbell's Chicken with Rice soup is gluten-free, and is so labeled. There are major differences between the Canadian and American products of Campbell's.
  15. The 2004 Food Allergy and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), which has been in effect since January 1, 2006, contains an exemption for "highly refined oils" right in the legislation. Many companies voluntarily list the source of their oil, but it is still legal to list "vegetable oil" without disclosing the source, and without having a "contains" statement...
  16. I don't know how long it has been since you went gluten-free. You may still be in the healing process. During that phase, random reactions to anything are not unusual. Your body is still healing. During my early healing process, I reacted to even such simple things as plain rice. In North America, maltodextrin is made from corn. If the source was wheat...
  17. Um, let's consider this. Your experiences are your own. Other people, including other people who also have celiac disease, have different experiences. The fact that their experience is different does not in any way "invalidate" your experience. I have traveled to Alaska. Perhaps you have not. The fact that you have never been to Alaska does not in any...
  18. He has not been here for a week (last logged in on the 15th). And so it shall come to an end.
  19. True, dat!
  20. Modified starch can be a source of gluten, but is usually not. At least in North America, it is typically corn or tapioca.
  21. This has become heated. I have not seen anything that I would classify as an overt "personal attack," although there have been some tests of the rule. Accusing a member of a personal attack is a sensitive thing, and may, in and of itself, constitute a personal attack on that member. Everybody, please take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds...
  22. There is never TMI here when we are trying to find answers. Yes, it is normal to fart several times a day, but like so many things, it is not so simple. You didn't share the rest of your bowel rhythm. Are you typically constipated? A plug of hardened fecal matter in the rectum can block it, trapping gas further up the stream.
  23. Well, she wrote a book, anyway. It isn't one of the better ones.
  24. We use Tinkyada and are very satisfied. It is Canadian. Gluten-free, and Kosher too. We prefer the brown rices ones over the white rice. FWIW.
