  1. It sure sounds easy enough, Marc! It's interesting that you don't have to let it rise before baking...does it have baking powder and/or baking soda in it as well as yeast? One suggestion is to have the eggs at room temperature before mixing up the batter/dough. I keep a number of flours in the fridge (the kinds that would get rancid quickly) and I always...
  2. Pffffft! I wouldn't go that far. I'm still very much in the learning process even though I have a few bricks to my credit. Since my kids are grown I wasn't much of a baker for years until I was diagnosed. Heck, I could buy a single piece of cake and not have to deal with a whole cake getting stale. And a loaf of bread lasted for a long while. ...
  3. Glad to hear the mixer seems fine! It would be terrible to get another dud. I'll be looking forward to hearing how the bread turns out since I've never used Pamela's. Hmmm...interesting that it says to use the whip attachment. I've never used mine for yeast bread but given that the instructions tell you to do that, I guess I'd follow the instructions...
  4. The one thing I'd turn to if I was sick would be chicken and rice soup. I know...homemade takes awhile to prepare. Can you have already prepared gluten-free chicken broth like Progresso or Kitchen Basics? And then throw some rice in it? Or if not, how about plain cooked rice? I usually make a big batch of homemade chicken and rice soup and have it...
  5. Thanks, Jessica! Since I have acrylic overlays, no base coat is used. My nail polish is called "Nail Lacquer" and I have no idea what the top coat is. Since I have no problem with it, I'll not be concerned about it.
  6. Yaaay!!! Now to see if all of us can come up with that *perfect* loaf of bread!!!
  7. I have some of their regular gluten-free flour that I ordered from their website...but I haven't used it yet. They have a lot of gluten-free recipes online. I made blueberry muffins yesterday, too, only used Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix.
  8. Marc, hopefully your new mixer works well? Are you baking now??? We'll anxiously be awaiting your report. And yes, if a recipe calls for veggie oil, I use canola oil, too. Basically I just have it and olive oil in my stash. Love2travel, what in the heck is albumen? Something to do with eggs??? I really don't want to get into buying soy flour, not...
  9. Welcome, TashaJe! I agree totally with what Mushroom said. And if you want further testing, this is definitely the time to do it. I didn't go through withdrawal either when I went gluten-free.
  10. WOW!!! I'm excited for you! Nice birthday gift to yourself! I tend to buy myself gifts, too. Great price on the Pro model. You realize, of course, that we'll expect some knock-out bread recipes from you, don't you??? With so many of us diddling around trying different recipes, hopefully one of us will come up with that *perfect* loaf of bread. ...
  11. I'll be interested to hear the response from OPI. Since I've been having my nails done for years with acrylic overlays and the salon I go to uses OPI polish, I really don't have any reason to feel that I have a problem with it...although that doesn't mean it would work for everyone.
  12. Jessica, just curious to know what reactions you have to nail polish that is not gluten-free. I have my nails done and use OPI nail polish...no clue as to whether it's gluten-free or not.
  13. Simona, you're looking at the Pro series, which is much more expensive. I have the Artisan, which is priced somewhere between $200+ and $300 depending on the color.

  15. If you have been eating foods that are naturally gluten-free, you'll probably have to do the challenge.
  16. Welcome, Lisa! Living Gluten-Free for Dummies is a good book! A lot of us are still searching for that *perfect* loaf of gluten-free bread. Have you tried Udi's or Rudi's? Those are pretty popular brands here. Personally I wouldn't touch the homemade sourdough bread with a 10-foot pole.

  18. I do think your body has given you a very clear answer. That said, are you now eating gluten-free? If so, you'll have to do a gluten challenge before even having a shot at a diagnosis. From what I've read here, that means eating the equivalent of 3 to 4 pieces of bread daily for approx. 3 months. Ouch!
  19. Did you check the ingredients of the Hoisin Sauce?
  20. I love those clean-out-the-fridge meals! Tonight I'm going to make a clean-out-the-fridge stir-fry. Since I'm thinking about it before 8 a.m., it will happen.
  21. I replaced a lot of things that I could never get clean. New toaster, colander, wooden spoons, cutting boards, ancient Tupperware that I'd never get clean, beaten up old non-stick cookware that should have been gotten rid of a long time ago. I tried to replace things right away that I needed and could never get clean. My good cookware just got a good scrubbing...
  22. Guess my curry is pretty fake then. I haven't made it since going gluten-free. Good reason for buying only certified gluten-free flours, which I normally do, too, although I do have some glutinous rice flour I bought at an Asian store.
  23. No wonder you polish it and adoringly look at it. I have ordered from Chef's Catalog before...can't remember exactly what but I think it was some Calphalon cookware.
  24. I agree...get rid of the pot and keep the cookie sheets but line them with parchment or aluminum foil.
