  1. Gasp! I've failed the gourmet test. Sometimes dinner is an absolute miracle!!! Now when my kids were little or when my granddaughter is here, breakfast, lunch and dinner are eaten at a table.
  2. I'm hopeless! That's what happens when you live alone...who needs a table? I put shredded cheddar cheese on it...does that count? And the chili is homemade! I'll try not to spill it on my keyboard.
  3. I'm eating there now. Sheesh, I should have added some tortilla chips!!!
  4. .....just sayin' I agree with Lisa.
  5. I pulled a single serving of chili out of my freezer for dinner. So does that mean I took a trip to Mexico?
  6. Just curious...what book are you reading? I use all of those things and don't have a problem with them. Of course, cross-contamination is a concern for all of us. Unless you have a specific sensitivity to any of them, I don't know why you couldn't have them. Here's a list of safe gluten-free foods.
  7. Congrats, Marc!!! It is a tough decision. I have used mine a lot and thus far I'm happy with it. I hope you ordered it today...honestly the way Amazon kicks their prices around, what's $212 today may be something else tomorrow. FWIW, I paid $248 for my white one so you're getting a good deal. You have certainly researched it thoroughly. Also, check...
  8. What a dilemma, Marc! I pulled it up on Amazon but have no idea how to compare it to my KitchenAid. It definitely is more powerful although my KitchenAid is plenty powerful for what I use it for. The warranty is definitely better (3 years compared to 1 year). It has 12 speeds compared to 10. The mixing bowl is 5-1/2 qt. compared to 5 qt (sometimes I...
  9. Heck, I don't want to just come for dinner...I want to live with her!!! ETA: I should add that I threw chicken in the oven, a baked potato and spinach.
  10. I just got this info on the massive ground turkey recall. Brand names mentioned Open Original Shared Link.
  11. Poor thing! How old is your little girl? A lot of us adults think our old bread tasted better than our new gluten-free bread, too. We eventually adjust or keep searching for products that we do like. And sometimes we forget what the old bread tastes like, too. Maybe for the time being you can find substitute foods so you could just skip the sandwiches...
  12. Please be aware that this is a very old thread and ingredients could very well have changed since 2006.
  13. Well, at least you got that craving out of the way!!! And if for some reason you don't care for Bob's Red Mill pizza crust, don't give up. There are a lot of recipes and mixes available.
  14. Glad to hear white rice flour works well! I think I do remember reading that in her book.
  15. Pancakes and sausage...being lazy tonight.
  16. I like them!
  17. For pizza, I'm generally using Jules Shepard's recipe found Open Original Shared Link. I prefer a thinner crust and use a 14" pan instead of the 12" recommended. I don't know how I'd manage though if I didn't have a stand mixer. While I do have her flour, here's a recipe for her Open Original Shared Link, which I think is probably pretty much the same...
  18. A lot of folks like either Udi's or Rudi's, which seem to be quite available in many places.
  19. I haven't seen Better Batter Flour around here so haven't tried it.
  20. Suzanna, I can't imagine myself doing that...I am absolutely too chicken to even think what my reactions would be. That said, there's no reason you can't have pizza, angel food cake and dinner rolls (gluten-free, of course). Do you cook? I made a really good pizza last weekend and that is one thing I really craved when I first went gluten-free. Haven...
  21. You might also want to ditch dairy for the time being just in case you have an unknown problem with it. You can always try adding it back in later.
  22. I really don't know anything about bacterial overgrowth but I know there are some members here that are knowledgeable. You might also use the google search button at the top right of your screen to see what threads there are so you can read up on it. Personally I'd give up soy to start with...the problem is that it seems to sneak into everything. I don...
  23. That's interesting, chasbari. I know a lot of people have problems with soy but I honestly didn't know it could cause villous atrophy.
  24. I have Annalise's cookbook but have never tried the Coconut Cake recipe. I wonder if white rice flour could be substituted for the Authentic Foods superfine brown rice flour. Anyone tried that? I have made some bread from her cookbook. I especially like the Multigrain Sandwich Bread, which has seeds in it (sesame, flax and sunflower seeds).
  25. Your Dr. is wrong! A positive biopsy trumps the negative blood test (and vice versa). If you've been gluten-free for several months, it is quite likely that you will have a negative blood test. You do have celiac and need to stick with a strict gluten-free diet. There's no way I would go back on gluten to satisfy a doctor's curiosity. After being gluten...
