ARCHIVED Confused About Reaction To Oats
dreacakes replied to Raywuwei's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't do oats at all! They make me crazy gassy. Listen to your body, it knows the way. -
Part of this info is in my signature, but I'll say it anyway! LOL Once I went on a nightshade free paleo-ish diet (not just gluten free... that didn't do much for me) the following things cleared-up pretty quickly: Arthritis, soft tissue pain (tendons), crippling mysterious knee pain, really dry hair, itchy red patches on my face, blood sugar instability...

ARCHIVED Two Months In And Still In Pain
dreacakes replied to mcbphd1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I too didn't get better right away when I went gluten free. I felt good for a few days, and then bam! I was even sicker for awhile. Part of the reason was I went through gluten withdrawal, gluten activates the same part of your brain that opiates do (crazy, huh?) The second reason, which it took me a few months to figure out, was that I am sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Raw Food Diet
dreacakes replied to revenant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
From what I've read, there are many, many problematic aspects to raw diets. They are lacking in essential nutrients, and hard to digest, especially for people with compromised digestive systems. Some things really should be cooked, and when you're recovering from being nutrient deficient you need to eat foods that are both easy to digest and very nutrient... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Some Questions And My Symptoms
dreacakes replied to glasgowfranko1981's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! We have some similar symptoms... So I hope I can help! Firstly, I highly suggest reading LOTS about gluten sensitivity and Celiac. Tests for Celiac are notoriously inaccurate, so you may have it anyway, and gluten sensitivity can be severe, and just as important to treat. I didn't have any major GI symptoms either. I was nauseous frequently, but... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Kick Tostitos, And Myself, With Equal Ferocity
dreacakes replied to tictax707's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh, I've totally done this. I ate something the other day that totally had milk in the ingredients list! Ug! It's like you have to have "check the ingredients" tattooed on your hand.... Tostitos are probably not the best thing to eat anyway though, since they are made with GMO corn, and corn (as with all grains) does have gluten in it. -
Oh, I feel your pain my dear!! It's so hard having debilitating health issues for YEARS and not knowing what's causing them. My stomach hurt every single day, and I had so many health issues that I went to so many doctors to treat... and none of them ever helped. I'd HIGHLY suggest seeing a holistic nutritionist ("holistic" being the big emphasis!)...

Hi all. Firstly, I just wanna say how much I love this forum, it was so helpful to me when I was first figuring out what I was gluten sensitive. Three years later and my health is so dramatically better! That was partially due to some of the wonderful information I got on this forum and website. Lots of love! All the best!

ARCHIVED What Do You Do After Glutening?
dreacakes replied to SMDBill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cry?? No, really... I guzzle every anti-inflammatory thing I can possibly think of. Aloe juice, chamomile tea, ginger tea, nettle infusion, etc. This supplement was always helpful too: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
dreacakes replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I LOVE Nettle!! I drink it in an infusion. I get the leaves from a local herbalist, then dump about half a cup in a mason jar, pour boiling water over it, then let it steep in the fridge for at least 24 hours. Then I strain out the leaves, and drink a gulp of it every day. Infusions are more potent than teas. It always makes me feel great! -
ARCHIVED What Do You All Think About Idea That All Grains Must Go For Many To Heal?
dreacakes replied to slee11211's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! Going grain free is a must, IMO. I didn't start to see any significant improvement until I went on a paleo diet. It was so quick and so dramatic when I did. My brain fog was GONE, and my muscle spasms and joint pain soon followed. This supplement was also helpful: Open Original Shared Link And recently I just started taking cod liver oil and... -
ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
dreacakes replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You don't need your doctor's validation. (I know our society tells us that we do, but really, we don't. We can take back our own personal power.) Do your research and heal yourself! After 8 years of misdiagnosis, that's what worked for me. -
I think everyone's bodies react differently depending on how Celiac has effected your system. I was painfully thin before going gluten free, and now I can't stop gaining weight. I've gone up 4 pant sizes in a year, and my pants are starting to get tight again!

ARCHIVED Lupus? Connective Tissue Diseases?
dreacakes replied to suziq0805's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My Grandmother had Lupus, and many of the other physical symptoms that I've had in my life. I tested negative for it, but still have a lot of unexplained inflammation in my soft tissues (and I have swollen bloody gums too! I've tried to tell the dentist why this is, but she won't listen to me...) I really think that if I hadn't gone gluten free, I would... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like Dr. House Detoxing From Vicodin :(
dreacakes replied to Meggielynn13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL! Detoxing from Vicodin is a PERFECT way to describe gluten withdrawal! I'd HIGHLY suggest that you consider not eating any grains, eggs, soy, or dairy for awhile, if ever again. I made the mistake of diving into the prepared gluten-free food isle when I first went gluten free. Then a year later I *still* didn't feel any better and wondered why!... -
ARCHIVED Are These Symptoms Of Gluten Withdrawal?
dreacakes replied to ericsnow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had major withdrawal symptoms for about 2 months, and more mild ones for a year after. I just mentioned this on another post, but I didn't really get better until I went on a Paleo diet and took a gut-healing supplement for awhile. I'd highly suggest giving the diet a shot! And the supplement I've had great success with is called RepairVite. Aloe... -
It probably is something you're eating. I know I didn't start recovering until I went on an even more restricted diet than just gluten free. The issue you might be having is that grains, nuts, legumes, and nightshade plants have high amounts of lectins, which are plant proteins that irritate the intestinal tract. Sugar is also an irritant all on its own...

Being freshly diagnosed is so confusing and difficult! I know I bumbled my way through the first few months of recovery, not really knowing what I was doing at first and having to seek out information to educate myself about my condition. These is my basic how-to-heal-when-you-have-Celiac advice: - As other people said, decontaminate the kitchen! My...

ARCHIVED How Are The Grain-Free Folks Doing?
dreacakes replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've just gone on a no-grain diet. (I call it my "Cavewoman diet") It's been going really well. I've had more good days this last week than I have in a long time! I also cut out sugar and caffeine, so that has had an impact as well. I am eating a bit of quinoa too, but I'm trying to to over-do it. Recently I got a dehydrator and I'm going to experiment... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Symptoms When Glutened?
dreacakes replied to catarific's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me, being glutened is different than being effected by my other food sensitivities. It really feels like my immune system is reacting. Usually if I eat something contaminated I get really gassy that day, and I either get diarrhea or my stool looks weird. Also, my eyes get a little itchy and watery. Then the next day, I wake-up feeling really tired... -
ARCHIVED How To Convince The Boyfriend To Make Our Kitchen Gluten-Free?
dreacakes posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm tired of my kitchen feeling like a toxic minefield!! I'm so paranoid about everything in there, I can't put the spatula down on the stove while I'm cooking because I'm afraid of contamination, there are crumbs that fall in the silverware drawer, I scrub the holy heck out of the dishes but I'm always scared I missed a spot (I got badly glutened by... -
I have joint and tendon pain too. I actually was treated for a severe flare-up of tendinitis and bursitis while I was working in a coffee shop a few years ago. My condition puzzled all of the doctors because the tendinitis wasn't localized- it was completely through both of my arms, finger tips to shoulders. It was also weird because my joints and tendons...

I've been having the same issue! And I don't eat many sweets- just the occasional simple chocolate, and then mostly raw and whole foods otherwise. I think maybe it's because I snack on nut mix, hummus, and avocados a lot now?? Either that or I am just absorbing more of my food.
-
I had this problem too until I went mostly raw with my food and cut out nearly all grains. I suggest simplifying your diet for awhile so it'll be easier to figure out what's setting you off. Also- probiotics are your friend! Non-dairy yogurt, acidophilus, liquid chlorophyll, and or/ Komucha helps with digestion. Best of luck!

ARCHIVED Daiya Cheese!
dreacakes replied to Mac55's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I LOVE this cheese!! It's the best vegan cheese ever!
