  1. You are so very welcome!! I am glad you found us here - at the very least it does help to not feel so "alone."
  2. Hi... I too, have microscopic colitis. I was sort of the reverse of you, got diagnosed with celiac first, still had looong episodes of D (weeks!) after eliminating gluten (and diary), and then finally isolated microscopic colitis (that was one year). For your reference, there is also a really great microscopic colitis forum. Not sure if the link will...
  3. "Seems to me that the intestinal tract is wired directly to your brain..." Actually, it IS... we aren't nuts. it's called the enteric nervous system. Open Original Shared Link
  4. first of all - welcome!! So the uh, "good news" is that you definitely aren't alone. I've found that my digestive system is much more sensitive in times of stress. And everything just funnels into my being really off balance (lack of sleep, etc). And then, at times when I feel like maybe I made it through a stressful episode with my system in tact, it...
  5. nuts? I've even seen single serving packs around.
  6. Hi Jessica, I think I get what you are saying about being a fish out of water, but really, it's NOT easy for many of us to just quit eating gluten in a flash. For some it is easier than others because they are so sick, but if you read around many of the posts here, people do struggle with accepting the diagnosis and adjusting to the diet, and missing...
  7. Joni, Congratulations!!! I am so excited for you. It's really a big deal to have finished one!! I love the triathlon, and I've been doing them for a few years now. I agree that it's the BEST combo of things for your body - swimming, biking and running! Does this mean you might try another one in the future, maybe...?
  8. "get used to it since it won't change..." I know it's true, but that seems also kind of cold hearted. Best of luck in talking to your mom...
  9. 1. Nope. 2. I'm not sure what to say. How awful that your mom thinks your daughter should be less strict and risk her health in order to avoid being rude. How *awesome* that your daughter is already making the smart choices at 12 years old. She should definitely be commended for her vigilance. Maybe you and your daughter could work on little one...
  10. DesLyn, how long are you riding? have you tried Gu or shot bloks to fuel during the ride? Gatorade and powerade are gluten free as well. The company infinit also allows you to custom make your own drink mixes. i don't use the whey in anything, but other than that i think they are gluten free too. Hope this helps!
  11. just like being "a touch" pregnant.
  12. I know this won't actually take away any of the pain, but you are definitely not alone!! I understand that this is totally frustrating. Sadly, I think the rollercoaster of better-not better-better-not better is just part of the process. It's a bummer that improvements are not linear like the common cold. I can finally say I am 99.9% recovered from being...
  13. oh, I am so sorry... Two quick questions: when you say as strict a diet as possible, what does that mean? Can you elaborate a little bit on possible ways gluten can be getting in? (it may not be the case, but I wanted to check). And two - how tall are you? 115 is a pretty reasonable weight for someone 5 foot ish, but not if you are 6'2". You say...
  14. oh, AND I can also get funny symptoms in the afternoon - it's mainly gas as opposed to D, but just as socially awkward at work. I really think there is something to how your body processes things throughout the day that is variable. I wish I could say I had it worked out, but for the moment I just sort of chase the symptoms. I try to figure out what...
  15. Hi! I have lymphocytic colitis. I've been on asacol for a while, and it has been working well, but it did take me quite a while to settle out after I went on it (~6-9 mos or so?). How much asacol were you taking? So are you on asacol AND entocort? I am with you on the fact it seems like a lot of stuff. I just found out that asacol has lactose in...
  16. Hi Joshua, and welcome! I find that tea with mint & ginger & chamomille (sp?) help (it usually comes under some title along the lines of anti-tension or tummy-ease). I add a little bit of honey to make it more palatable. Depending on how badly inflamed her GI is, she may not be able to tolerate foods she can normally be ok with. My personal go...
  17. It sounds to me like she does want to get better - especially if she has tried the diet at some point in the past. With you being near, you can both work through it together. I'm still with you in your logic, and if she resists, when then it is out of your hands... But I am hopeful for your both. PS - many good cracker options out there too.
  18. Although I can't really help with the letter writing (no fibro, & D is my prob), I wanted to let you know I thought your plan is amazing and thoughtful and loving. You, my dear, are a walking little gem, and your g-ma is so lucky to have you as a granddaughter. I wish you well with your task at hand!!!
  19. Pancake Sunday hating stacey, I support your thought process. The fact that he refuses to consider (or even try to meet you in the middle) is something that you deem important for your health is a deal breaker. Who knows how much farther that lack of support for you goes. This whole process is tough as it is - the last thing you need is additional battles...
  20. oh my goodness!!! I hope you are ok!! Hopefully you can get everything well washed - or maybe do they have plastic plates & silverware? Could you just have a frozen dinner that you could eat straight from the container? Just to get you through the night? Glad the paramedics were in the know.
  21. Many of you may have seen my post in the general forum. I'm still really sick after gluten exposure four weeks ago. I tried to get in to see my GI and was told the first time I could see him was May 16th. MAY!!!! I SLEPT ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR Saturday night for goodness sakes and in desperation to stop the madness I seriously quit eating ANYTHING on Sunday...
  22. I think a lot of people in the microscopic colitis community use it and pepto to stave off the colitis symptoms. My first GI told me to go for it as long as I needed...
  23. I totally remember - the why me? As if there was some cosmic "sentencing." I am starting to realize it's just life and it can take totally unexpected turns. It's ok to be overwhelmed because this really is a big deal. But time is on your side. As a friend of mine says "you can't eat the whole elephant all at once." You can get the hang of this. You...
  24. My first instinct was to say something immediately, but I was at a lunch sponsored by one of the companies we do business with. I was afraid of making a big obvious stink because it was supposed to be so... high end. I am not sure who would have been more mortified: me, my company, the sponsoring company (all in my favor of course). I resolved to say something...
  25. yes of course (you can see my whimpering post from earlier today...). But I attribute it to the psychological aspects of the disease - frustration, lack of control, etc...
