ARCHIVED I Found A Crouton At The Bottom Of My Salad
tictax707 replied to tictax707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks you guys, for the support. I have gotten sick and tired of the meal replacement, and it does contain soy, so I will just lay off it for a bit. I am going to see my GI doctor tomorrow - at least, I hope I can get in to see him. Irishheart, I really do like that quote - you may have to fight a battle more than once to win it. It's so applicable now... -
ARCHIVED I Found A Crouton At The Bottom Of My Salad
tictax707 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suppose the title & description sum it all up. I pretty much spent last night in the bathroom. Since I have microscopic colitis I can't tell the reaction of my small intestine from the colitis. My insides are incredibly inflamed and I can't imagine eating anything ever again. I can't even handle my cream of rice or meal replacement formula. I... -
ARCHIVED Bleeding And Abdominal Pain
tictax707 replied to WitchyWoman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ditto to response above. Seek medical assistance, NOW. Do not wait. The issue needs to be addressed by a professional, TODAY. -
I've been on asacol since about 2003 ish. It's worked really well for me. It did take a while for me to learn how to treat my body during a flare up, but now that I know, things are under much better control now. Once you get the colitis improving, you will feel much much better. Let me know how it goes with the dietician. I have blue cross too and they...

Yes - there is definitely hope! I'm 5'4" so I don't have long legs either. I think that is super cool that you joined a women's group for support. Congrats on the free entry! I will say it's fate helping you along.

Why thank you! So, the good news is that I started the endurance distance stuff *after* I was diagnosed. I was diagnosed when I was in training for my first marathon ever. So I had to put that off for a year to focus on the diet, and then I went back and did the marathon. I switched to tris in 2006 and slowly worked my way from sprint/Olympic distance...

Hi... I train for half and full ironmans. You definitely want to get a handle on the foods you can and can't have, but if you can train at all I would bet that you could do both races in april. There are bound to be ups and downs, but as long as you are really good about listening to your body (rest when you don't feel like training) I think it will work...

ARCHIVED Feeling Like The Odd Man Out Here
tictax707 replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
nope - you aren't the odd man out. As you can see from my signature I am very active. I've done two ironman triathlons and plan to do at least two more. (iron distance is swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles are run 26.2) Most people that know about celiac's because of me equate celiac with "eating well." I know it's not really like that, but I'm still always... -
hi! I found a fantastically easy, but semi-roundabout way to keep a food diary. I used one of those calorie counter apps. My favorite is "my fitness pal." it has TONS and TONS of gluten free foods. Plus you can enter your own recipes with all the ingredients you used so you can refer back to it and see what was in any given food you ate. You can use...

ARCHIVED When Will I Be Able To Cope With This?
tictax707 replied to CJoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cjoy, It's ok that you are feeling like this now. Don't beat yourself up about not being ok with it at the moment. In the grand scheme of things 5 months is not really all that long. You've got plenty of time to go through whatever you need to go through. It's really kind of like going through stages of grief. I think it's more important to be honest... -
ARCHIVED Working Out On Extremely Limited Diet?
tictax707 replied to julandjo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally understand the desire to work out... it's really important to me too! It's good for my head and a positive attitude. I get like you described when I have a colitis flare up. I would say that you are probably skating on thin ice, especially if it's hard to get 1300 cals a day. is that 1300 net cals (taking into account the working out) or 1... -
First of all, catarific, you have the mot fantastic avatar ever. Secondly, I feel your pain. I have other food sensitivies & colitis and sometimes it's just maddening. But, the good news is that you always keep learning as you go. As long as you are putting in the effort to pay attention to what you are eating and how you body responds, you will...

ARCHIVED Whats Your 'go-To' Meal
tictax707 replied to runningcrazy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
scrambled eggs or an omlette with veggies. Still a little bit of prep, but I love it. -
and the chocolate almond milk from silk is DIVINE. I had some stuff from Mariposa in the bay area when I was up there - very impressed!! I am starting to see more of there products in stores around, but just the biscotti. It's the fresh bread that's so yummy. All in good time, I am sure.

I don't know about allergies and I don't think that ingredient has gluten, but I know that in general I am very picky with my supplements because of the cellulose in them. My body just doesn't do well with certain types of cellulose. You may be similar. Some give me wicked gas, others give me DH, and it just sort of sucks because these things are never...

ARCHIVED Anyone In Orange County, Ca With Celiac?

ARCHIVED Vaccine Cure Possible For Autoimmune Disease
tictax707 replied to Candy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They are on it - just google celiac vaccine. It's in clinical trials in Australia. There is actually a thread on it here in these forums. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Gain Weight?
tictax707 replied to hunter6009's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
one non-weight gainer here. I think it's really about sensibility and balance. Part of the weight gain may be psychological - since we are so restricted we may overindulge when we find good substitutes. And a lot of the stuff available to us that tastes really good, is (just like the gluten-laden counterparts) filled with fat & sugar. Another... -

ARCHIVED Exercise, Detox, Vitamin Regimens
tictax707 replied to Artemis-03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd be very interested to hear what the moderators have to say about the first statement in all caps. And to take into account the info that is out there, like in the article below: Open Original Shared Link Use This To Link To Spam.com/?Gluten-Free-Eating---Is-Distilled-Alcohol-OK?&id=3865232 And also about the time frame of "moving the toxin... -
I am so sorry to hear that you are having these difficulties. I can totally related to feeling so restricted. I feel doubly "restricted" because some gluten free/dairy free things that I can eat but are unhealthy will make me feel like crap. Since I also like participating in long distance endurance races, I can't afford to feel like crap, even for a day...

ARCHIVED Lactase Supplement -- Silly Me...
tictax707 replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Monklady - I know you have a happy fix now, but I had one thought: what about almond milk? If you get the unsweetened kind it might be another option as well. (it's the best non-soy option I have found so far for baking, etc.) Happy Thursday everyone!! -
True that about lazy vs. sick. It's where you need to be really honest with yourself about your feelings. Good for you for still doing something. I bet it helped you feel better too.
