ARCHIVED Finger Nail Abnormalities
tictax707 replied to k2626's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Those were some super cool links, kayo! Thank you!! After comparison, I realize that my nails really aren't as bad as I thought they were. -
ARCHIVED Fruits And Vegetables!
tictax707 replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bananas & grapes are my go-to fruits when my system is mad but can at least handle fruit. Strawberries, blueberries, & blackberries are good because the rich color indicates lots of antioxidants to battle any inflammation you might have going on when your system is out of whack. You can blend 'em up to make it a bit easier going down. As... -
Ok all, there is a food somewhere in my diet that is irritating me. I can't be sure if it is gluten, because as we all know there are a host of other intolerances out there, of which I have a few. But I get really frustrated at times like this when something I am eating is CLEARLY irritating my system and I can't figure out what it is. I have been slowly...

ARCHIVED Eating Disorder Brought On By Gluten Intolerance?
tictax707 replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think this is a very interesting thread and I am glad to hear other's opinions on this issue. Being diagnosed with celiac & colitis has definitely given me food "issues," that I did not have before, and maybe it IS a disorder. It's odd that I was not ever deficient in anything, but because of the havoc that gluten would have on my system, my default... -
Oh, true that. People really just don't know a lot about food like we do, because they don't have to. I have to keep reminding myself of that. I've had the opposite where people "understand" that I can't have whole wheat flour but think I can have white flour (where do they think the white flour comes from?). And the dairy thing too is pretty funny -...

Bridget, I don't know your height, weight or body size, but it sounds like you are eating like a bird! I'd die of hunger too on a day like that and I am just over 100 lbs. It does seem like you are way under on your protien requirements like another poster suggested (and consequently eating way too many starchy carbs). I would suggest more peanut butter...

From what I hear from others, it is common to be more sensitive with time. I don't know a lot about Thai food, but I might also tend to think that there might be something else hiding in the food that has gluten in it. Sometimes rice noodles have wheat in them. Last week I was at a place that had rice noodles, and I asked what's in them, and he said "rice...

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For The Muscle Weakness/Pain To Go Away?
tictax707 replied to capit's topic in Sports and Fitness
Gatorade & powerade are gluten free. Gu, gu chomps, and clif bloks are as well. I am really wary of consuming a lot of protein when you are out for long distances (ie - clif or larabars), but that's my personal fear. For longer distance stuff I have used a bite of purefit bar. (literally a bite - like 1/12 of a bar). There is also this stuff called... -
Runners everywhere!! This is so cool!! I've used infinit before too - very good stuff. I love how you can personalize it. I am a fan of gu, gu chomps, and clif shot bloks. If you are worried about heat and salt for the marathon, the margarita shot blocks have extra sodium in them. I second the tinkyada (sp?) pasta vote - it's the best that I...

ARCHIVED No Symptoms After Glutening
tictax707 replied to Shannonlass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is a whole thread on this topic too - "how long are you binned after a glutening" or something like that. People are extremely varied in their reactions - both in symptoms & in duration... -
YAY! Glad to see you are feeling encouraged. If store access is tough, there is a ton of stuff you can order online. Depending on what you are looking for, you can poll the community here for what's worth buying. There are forums on here for cooking & baking & other mainstream products you can get. Good luck!

ARCHIVED Just Started Diet And Have Some Questions
tictax707 replied to Alyahsdad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know when I first started I inadvertently went hungry a lot because I didn't know what I could actually eat, and was essentially frozen with the fear of eating something that would make me feel terrible. DON'T cheat the diet. It will just set you back. It's like re-opening a wound that is beginning to heal (but you know how it itches sometimes...). ... -
fingers crossed. Let us know how it turns out. I see you joined almost 2 years ago. Have you been gluten free since then? just curious...

ARCHIVED How Long Are You Binned After A Glutening?
tictax707 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Usually I can go into work and function, but I am miserable, tired, and dragging myself and my raw intestines around. I couldn't afford to take all the time off, but sometimes I do give up and stay home for a day or two when it's at the worst part. -
Welcome!! It is totally understandable to be overwhelmed. I was too. Things will take a while as you learn, but there are temporary solutions to help get you off and rolling. It all depends on what kinds of tools you have access too for lunch. Do you have access to a microwave? Amy's makes some gluten free frozen dinners. Another think you can do is...

It's totally possible to be able to gain muscle after your diagnosis. I second what another poster said about easing into it and letting your body heal from the gluten before packing on the protein and weighlifting. I am confident that once you heal a bit you can definitely build muscle. I know that's happened to me personally in the years since my diagnosis...

Cool - I hope it helps you too. If you remember, let me know if you think it worked for you too. Sounds like you have a good simple-food plan. I love love love the bumble bars, but have found they can cause my system to get a bit rumbly when I am healthy, so I stay away when I am not. (but that's just me)

yeah, that does sound like cross contamination then. I am so sorry!!!

ARCHIVED Still Want To Live Life! But Nervous...
tictax707 replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was 24 once and my parents forbade me to do something or other. Do you need their monetary support? There comes a time to break away and do your thing. Not one person so far has said don't go, and we are ALL staunch gluten-fearers. It's understandable that your parents worry about you, but I am sure we will be joined by more voices that say it CAN be... -

My vote is to go for it. I would do a lot of research beforehand about the places that you will be visiting. Find out places to eat and places to buy food. You can also ship from here to your hotel. Find hotels with mini fridges and microwaves. Do you speak any French or Spanish? There are triumph dining cards in Mexican spanish and french. Hopefully... -

record recovery: one week. record misery: six weeks. average: three weeks. -
Nor_TX, can you get a new doctor? Seriously. You need to have someone who is in your corner. That's bull-hooey that the dr. won't follow up, at least without you making yourself miserable and probably doing untold amount of damage to your system.
