  1. Bridgetm, have you tried pedialyte? I have found that when Gatorade doesn't help me out, pedialyte will. More electrolyes maybe? The clear stuff is well, clear, so no funny dyes like the bright, vivid colors of gatorade. I can't imagine that all those dyes are good for you, but unless I am really bad off, I guess I can handle them ok. I too, am...
  2. True that!! I was talking to one woman at work and she says she has food issues too, but never cares to figure it out and she was like "what? you mean D is not a regular thing in life? It is in mine..." Thank GOODness I am not her. Or I suppose I should say - thank goodness I know what causes my issues and I stay away from it!
  3. OMG - I love this peppermint post!! Did it work the one time you tried it???
  4. I had inconclusive blood work but a positive biopsy. In fact I had zippo in terms of ANY positive on ANY test, but I was so ridiculously sick and had been for weeks that it was the only thing left that hadn't been tested. And yes, it's true that not eating gluten can make your labs turn out negative. My Dr. tested me like this on purpose earlier this...
  5. #1 FOR BROWNIES - KING ARTHUR'S BROWNIE MIX. omg, omg, omg. I was soo impresssed. #2 It is super cool that this thread was started. Props to Nor_TX!!! #3 I am doing thankfully very well. I had a narrow miss the other day at a Vietnamese restaurant and ended up getting MSG-ed (UGGGH) but not glutened. It is rainy out here in CA but I do...
  6. oh, and two more cents - I can never handle fresh fruits and veggies when things get out of balance. TOTALLY makes things worse. Fiber is not always a good thing for me, sounds like maybe for you too! After a bit of rest I ease in with very well-cooked veggies. Or some blended up fruit with my alpha ENF stuff.
  7. Oh no!!! I am so sorry to hear about the gluten. I am very much looking forward to seeing the replies to this post because I can get plagued by gas too,and it's totally embarassing and work with people as well. AND my turnaround is about 3 weeks before I can get better, and EVERYTHING sets off my system too. But for my part, although it does not...
  8. I have!! I use the Alpha ENF supplements for when I have colitis flare ups and I can't eat normal food. I love love love it. But I am using it as a meal replacement, not just a supplement. I am sure it could work just fine as a supplement too. But keep in mind I have only used the ENF, never tried the PMX...
  9. I think three things: One: you learn how to deal with your anger as you grow up by watching your parents, so undoubtedly some of that is passed on to you, not by genes particularly, but by environment. Two: This disease is rough. Personally I have felt anger and frustration. Because I am not perfect in my emotional chanelling, I am sure that these...
  10. Now THAT sounds fantastic. I am already a huge fan of hot almond and/or soy milk. I will have to add that into my regimen! thanks for the tip!
  11. yeah... We are still struggling with general awareness over here, but it is getting better than it was. The wheat "allergy" is a helpful buzz word, even though we all know that "wheat" doesn't accurately reflect our needs. Have you found the chain restaurants that have gluten free menus? I am not sure what's on the east coast, but on the west coast there...
  12. oh darn... I do Asacol too, and 12 a day when things get out of hand. I'm so sorry I couldn't be more help. The hamburger and fries sounds a bit nauseating, but the freedom to eat whatever, whenever, is not...
  13. Hey Nor_TX, First of all, I am very sorry for the frustrations you must feel with the fresh fruits and veggies out of the question. I was wondering how long you have known about the colitis for? Is it "general" colitis or is it microscopic or lymphocytic by any chance...? I am just wondering because I too have colitis, but it's the lymphocytic...
  14. ha, ha...! True that. People have thought I am nuts for my hobbies, and that's not even taking into account the celiac disease! Heidi is right - that once you get the hang of it, you will almost certaintly feel much better than you ever did before you were diagnosed. I finished my first full ironman in November, and I am sure I would have nearly killed...
  15. ProudArmyWife, I am glad this place can help you. I hope the posts have given you some things you can work with to get you on the road to health and icnreased knowledge, and consequently power over the disease. When I was first diagnosed I felt like I was running around in circles because my doctor said to see a nutritionist but the ones I talked to didn...
  16. Hi... I am so sorry to hear about your battles. Although I haven't had your symptoms exactly, I had have problems working out in that past when I get sick, either from gluten/dairy or eventhe common cold or flu. Ultimately I would say that your body is still adjusting to the changes in your diet. In the grand scheme of things two months is nothing compared...
  17. Congrats on grad school!!! The funny thing about emotions is that they are not rational. It's ok that you are sad even though you think you should be happy. No use struggling against it. This disease SUCKS sometimes, and it will be frustrating dealing with all the stupid gluten in the world, but it will also get easier as you find ways to navigate through...
  18. I have so been in this boat before too. I know people are well meaning and really just want to help, but given that there are SO many places that gluten can hide and people don't know to check... I would definitely stick to your guns about bringing your own stuff. I agree that many of the examples mentioned are really good. You can also say that since...
  19. Reading all these posts is really amazing to me. I am so glad that someone brought this up. I am SO relieved I am not the only one out there who feels that their life has turned at a very specific point - something that put us "over the edge." I can't explain why - but somehow its therapeutic knowing I am not the odd celiac! Thanks all.
  20. I have often wondered if I had a trigger as well. I went through the first 20-odd years of my life being ultimately ok and just avoiding cow's milk plain because it would make me nauseous and break out in hives. I did start getting sick on and off every now and then but I would always get better. Then I started training for a marathon and just about my...

    ARCHIVED Bread

ok guys, I am going to have to order some of this Udi's bread because everyone is raving. But I have one question. I saw on their website that they have granola. I couldn't tell easily if this granola was gluten free too? I am particularly interested in the granola nuggets. Thanks!!

    ARCHIVED Bread

oh, you are so going to be inundated with responses! But that's a good thing. I find that glutino bread toasts really well, as does the Kinnikinnick. You say you are in Cali - any chance southern cali in the LA area? There is a FANTASTIC gluten free bakery in culver city called "the sensitive baker." Gluten AND casein free. Totally, totally worth it...
  23. My grandmother had dermatitis hepatoformitis, my dad is negative for everything (except the gene), and I have celiac sprue. So unfortunately I wouldn't say that your grandson in in the clear...
  24. Has anyone tried the King Arthur Pizza crust mix? I've tried the brownies (fantabulous!!) and the cake (I undercooked it, but not too shabby).
  25. I totally feel your pain and agony about dating with this disease! While it's nothing to be ashamed of or anything, I don't like to bring it up too early because I don't want the disease to define me, you know? Plus I don't want to hit them with too much big stuff too early either. Hope you have a fantastic time!!
