  1. Not really. Were you ill recently? I had liver enzymes increased on time I had bloodwork but it was not long after I'd been sick. The next time they were normal. I imagine your doctor will repeat the test in a couple weeks to see whether they are still elevated. If so, you'll probably get a more detailed workup to be sure everything is OK.
  2. The sort of things we ask of people are MINOR inconveniences. I mean really, would you be upset if a family member asked for a fresh stick of butter for a health reason? It's not as if you're asking someone to go drive to the store to get you a fresh stick of butter RIGHT NOW BEFORE BREAKFAST!!! THAT would be inconvenient. As far as restaurants,...
  3. I agree. I would explain that crumbs from a shared toaster make celiacs sick and order the bun not toasted until they sort things out.
  4. I would be faster to suspect food poisoning that gluten.
  5. What about trying FAILSAFE? Open Original Shared Link As far as yeast, I never tried to control it with diet when I had problems. I took a good probiotic called ThreeLac and Zand Candida Cleanse. It worked pretty well. You will never get yeast under control without adding bacteria to grow in its place.
  6. So where is the control group of non-gluten intolerant folks to make this poll meaningful?
  7. Hippocampus, mostly. Amygdala and striatum may also be involved but it's less clear.
  8. You are not going to make any friends here minimizing gluten intolerance or coming after us self-diagnosed folks. Your post made me really angry. Doctors failed to diagnose me for 30-odd years, including a childhood celiac test AFTER I was off wheat because guess what? It made me sick. I'm bloody well certain that gluten is what was making me so...
  9. Make hot cocoa from cocoa powder, sugar, and milk. It's really good. Here's a web page with pretty much what I do. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Remember that Dr. Fine has something to sell you. You must take his lectures with a grain of salt. You MUST exclude a medical diagnosis of celiac disease before you start looking at gluten sensitivity. Blood tests only detect celiac disease 70%-80% of the time. The other 20%-30% of the time, damage is found on biopsy with no indication from the blood...
  11. I got more sensitive after a few years gluten-free.
  12. I don't understand why you canceled the biopsy from reading here. All the tests have a chance of false negatives, so you want to get as many done as you can tolerate. Plus your Dr. can look with signs of other trouble with the scope. If I were you I would go back on gluten and reschedule endoscopy/colonoscopy and let your Dr. check everything out. For...
  13. Funny, my TSH was 2.2 this spring and I had awful thyroid symptoms. Sounds like you don't have the same sort of brain reaction to low-normal thyroid that I do, which is good. I was soooo messed up this spring. I hope you can sort out the food intolerances better. I really feel for you with the insomnia. I had it for years and at one point went a...

  15. Out of shroomie's list, I would specifically ask for anti-EMA IgA and anti-DGP IgG. EMA is very, very specific, an I completely agree that the DGP is looking like the most sensitive test out there. Allergy to tree nuts will not skew his results and heck yes, you should pursue this!
  16. You are doing the right thing! Rosetapper and TH gave you great advice. I'm just chiming in to offer more support.
  17. Without! Have fun and good luck with that teenager.
  18. I think you misunderstood? I know on other boards the "eyeroll" emoticon can be quite sarcastic/rebellious but it just doesn't look that way to me on here. I think people tend to use it as a more interesting smiley than .
  19. Open Original Shared Link "Does TUMS contain gluten? Although we do not use gluten as a filler in TUMS, there may be trace amounts of gluten in TUMS Smoothies Cocoa and Cream flavor via ingredients that are supplied by outside vendors. Other products of TUMS do not contain gluten. Review the
  20. You might check out the Feingold Diet website. They know a lot about kids and food chemical sensitivities. Open Original Shared Link
  21. I understand how awful the insomnia is. What, exactly, was your "normal" thyroid test result? There are some high TSH reference ranges floating around and if your TSH was above 2.5 it could account for the insomnia, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and depression. That is pretty much my list of mild hypothyroid symptoms, plus memory loss, concentration problems...
  22. How are you determining your food intolerances? As far as I know, the only reliable way is elimination and challenge. None of the blood or skin tests are reliable, particularly if you tend to be generally reactive to those sorts of tests. If it's a matter of "feeling crummy" but your digestive issues are mostly gone, I have to wonder if you have problems...
  23. For me it was getting on the right amount of thyroid. I had awful brain fog this spring, couldn't remember things, couldn't even do simple addition. (Like 12+8=20) I remember driving home from a concert and although I knew the route perfectly well, I suddenly had no idea how far I'd gone, or which of the 3 highways I was on along the way home. I couldn...
  24. If she is getting into gluten regularly enough to cause her TTG to rise or even slight villous damage, there is a danger of cancer and other autoimmune diseases. If her antibodies are at zero and her villi are healed on followup biopsy, my understanding from the scientific literature is that she doesn't have any increased risk of cancer or other celiac-related...
  25. The total IgA is normal, which means the tests are valid. Without the TTG you can't be 100% certain but that deamidated gliadin IgG is a very sensitive test. He may be so-called latent celiac, where the disease hasn't progressed to TTG antibodies. It's OK to go without further testing, but he must live as if he is celiac. Never any CC, keep gluten to...
