I'd think suddenly cutting out processed foods and sugar could have quite an effect on how you feel! I'm not crazy about using the word "withdrawal" because it has a precise physiological meaning. I suspect you're having more of a detox/die-off reaction from suddenly going off junk food. A little milk thistle might do you good. -

It's a myth that you have to eat grains for fiber. Fresh fruits and vegetables have plenty of fiber. Have a few prunes! -

Were you eating starches before? That can be a pretty big adjustment, getting off of starchy foods. Sometimes you have some yeast or bad intestinal bacteria die-off, which is a good thing but can make you feel a little "off". -

An awful lot of things can kill a new drug or treatment. Don't get your hopes up too high. Alvine was looking for the ability to eat gluten with no issues with the enzymes, not an expensive treatment for minor CC. It's really hard to know whether they will decide that the enzymes have the profit potential to move forward into clinical trials that can... -

It's not withdrawal if you were already off gluten and dairy. Those are the two foods that can have an opiate-like effect. Did you start eating a lot of a new/different food? Or did you cut out supplements you were taking before you started the diet? -

Gripe away. We all hated giving up pizza, pasta, real bread, donuts, etc. Everyone has foods they miss and it truly is a difficult change. I eat rice pasta happily but I've never found a substitute for crusty French bread. You will find a lot of empathy on the board because we all struggle to some degree with the diet. Count your blessings that you have a doctor good enough to figure out what's going on. A positive biopsy is pretty much diagnostic for celiac. You MUST try the diet even if the bloods come back negative. They may because you've only been celiac for 3 1/2 months, which isn't long. The damage from undiagnosed celiac is truly terrible. It sure sounds like the crash I get from white rice and white potatoes. I'll fall asleep on the couch after having white rice in what should be a healthy meal. I'm glad you were able to afford the book. I bet you can resell it and get most of your money back. I'd go off grains pretty strictly for a bit, to start to get your intestinal flora to shift. Thanks! It's good to know the starch cravings will get better. I haven't managed to stay 100% clear of starch. I had problems on Thanksgiving because the hostess baked me gluten-free bread and pie (against my wishes). Turning them down would have hurt her more than I cared to. I already linked you all the resources I have bookmarked. It looks like the book is about 20 euro at the UK amazon. You really only need the one GAPS book with the yellow cover. You could always buy it, read it, xerox anything you need, and resell on eBay.ie to get some money back. -
Yes, scrambled eggs are great. Trying out the diet is fine, but as you learned it gets in the way of testing. I think everyone with stomach or neurological trouble should try gluten-free after they've been tested for celiac. Threelac has helped me. I've read those reviews too but I've never had a bad reaction to it. I have found that I have to do other yeast-killing measures while I take it though. As well as the meat and veggies diet, coconut oil is great, and I've also really liked Zand Candida Quick Cleanse. -

A year is long enough for her damage to heal and the endoscopy to be normal. Remember, growing kids can recover from illnesses really fast. I have a terrible time finding rolls that don't have gluten. It's in the fake crab, tempura batter, in most of the cooked fish like eel or salmon skin, and in the sauces they tend to drizzle over them. I order either nigiri sushi (the fish on a block of rice) or sashimi and make sure they understand that I am "allergic" to soy sauce.

I don't know. The book says very clearly that if you're not experiencing many GI problems and doing the diet for neuro issues, intro is optional. I'm not having GI issues at this point. I work full time and doing intro for more than my first couple weeks was just not feasible. The diet seems to be for a stay-at-home mom feeding an autistic child, not a busy...
