ARCHIVED I Broke Up With Jimmy John
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Connie dear, it's all for the best. You know he was bound to cheat on you with his girlfriend Gluten. Afterall, they were long time lovers before you came on the scene. You should have known he wasn't going to leave her for you. He was just playing with you. Never trust a man (er um sandwich?) with a last name that is slang for toilet -
ARCHIVED What Should I Be Looking For In Salad Dressing?
GlutenFreeManna replied to lischro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Annie's makes several dressings that are both gluten free and vegan. I have a few of the Annie's, but I prefer to make my own dressing. Olive oil and vinegar with some seasonings and you have dressing. Open Original Shared Link (click on FAQ's) -
I was not diagnosed, but the doctors were trying to get me a diagnosis of fibromyalgia before I discovered the possibility of celiac disease. Everything you describe is exactly what my life was like before going gluten free. Some days I just could not get out of bed the pain and fatigue was just too much. I had to quit working and drop out of grad school...

ARCHIVED Baking Business
GlutenFreeManna replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bread, rolls, buns and biscuits. I'm just starting out baking gluten-free, but I think these things are the hardest things to find or make. Brownies, cookies and cakes and other sweet things are easy to make gluten-free because the sugar covers up the fact that it's gluten-free. I have made good sweet breads and good cookies but not a really good bread... -
ARCHIVED So Sad That celiac disease May Have Caused My Miscarriage :(
GlutenFreeManna replied to firefightersgal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes it is sad isn't it? I have had three miscarriages in three years that I blame on gluten. We're trying to wait until I'm a year gluten free now before getting pregnant again to give me the best possible chance of carrying to term. -
ARCHIVED My Gluten-Free Pizza Story... Oy!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting, perhaps the person I spoke with was looking at the wrong price. I'll have to check again. I ate at a Mellow Mushroom while traveling and a medium was about $12 plus 1.75 for each additional topping. I didn't think that was bad and it was best gluten free pizza I have had yet. It was really filling too for a thin crust, lasted me for 3 meals... -
ARCHIVED 17 With The Body Of A 12 Year Old (Girls Only)
GlutenFreeManna replied to susieL.17's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh honey, everyone has something about their body they don't like. I had the opposite problem when I was your age. I have to wear a DDD cup. And it had little to do with my weight. I would have given anything to be small instead of big. Swimsuits didn't fit me and all the guys stared but they were too intimidated to ask me out. My husband likes my body... -
ARCHIVED Outback Steakhouse
GlutenFreeManna replied to missceliac2010's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm so glad you had a great experience! The restaurants with the gluten free menus are almost always easier and safer. I've heard many good stories about Outback but I haven't been to one yet. Just be sure you still ask questions at other places because they may not train their employees as well as that Outback does. -
ARCHIVED My Gluten-Free Pizza Story... Oy!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So was it good? Do you happen to know the ingredients of the crusts they use? We have a zPizza with gluten free crusts in our city, but I haven't tried them yet. It's a chain offering gourmet pizzas. I haven't tried it because it's on the other side of town from me and they said it was Twenty-something dollars for a small gluten free pizza. I can buy... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Left Out (Gir)
GlutenFreeManna replied to K8ling's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't even have a kid and I feel the same way sometimes. My friends are always inviting me to restaurants where there is nothing safe to eat. At first I tried going and either not ordering (bringing my own or eating in advance) or playing the ask 20-questions of the waiter game and I still either got sick or was starving by the end of the night. SO I... -
ARCHIVED Your Feedback Would Be Appreciated
GlutenFreeManna replied to Zeb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You don't have to have ALL the symptoms to have celiac. Some people are even "silent celiacs" and have no symptoms at all. Your doctor probably didn't mention celiac because he doesn't know much about it or got his medical degree many years ago. They used to think it was only in children and that children could grow out of it. Now they know you can develop... -
ARCHIVED How To Do This? Camping And Need Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to macocha's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
For snacks: Trail mix (can make your own with mixed nuts, raisins/craisin and M&M's) Popcorn (Is Jiffy Pop gluten-free? If so get a few of those and try making it over the fire) Dried fruit Chips (Lays Stax or Fritos come to mind) Apples and banana (get somewhat green ones, they will ripen fast) Marshmallows to roast over the fire Rice cakes... -
ARCHIVED Feta Cheese
GlutenFreeManna replied to glutenfr3309's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would have to look at the ingredients to know for sure. A spread could have something added that is gluten derived. I think your reaction however is more likely from all the dairy you had. Many of us have trouble with dairy after going gluten free. You had cheese stuffed chicken topped with cheese and ice cream for dessert. My body would produce D... -
ARCHIVED Your Feedback Would Be Appreciated
GlutenFreeManna replied to Zeb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could be. Talk to your doctor about getting a celiac panel blood test and an endoscopy with biopsies of you small intestines. Don't cut gluten out of your diet until the tests are done (it will affect the results), but you can start a gluten free diet as soon as you have had the biopsy (even before the results are in). If the diet relieves symptoms then... -
ARCHIVED Insomnia Is Destroying My Relationship :(
GlutenFreeManna replied to missceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What could he possibly think you are doing? Cheating on him with someone online? If he can't trust you than you should find someone else. You just need to be upfront with him that you can't sleep and promise him you are not doing anything "bad" or "wrong" online. Leave your browser history intact and invite him to check your history if he thinks there... -
ARCHIVED What Is Wrong With My Salad?
GlutenFreeManna replied to ynot's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you still using the same cutting boards you used prior to going gluten free? It might be time to get some new ones. Perhaps the CC finally caught up with you. The only other thing I would suspect is the balsamic vinegar. Is it labeled gluten free? If it is, does it have caramel color? Most caramel color is gluten free, but some people have trouble... -
ARCHIVED Mellow Mushroom to Offer Gluten Free Pizza - Celiac.com
GlutenFreeManna replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
They get their crusts from the Still Riding company. You can print a brochure and submit your local restaurant as a suggestion online. Maybe if you and several others ask they will start to carry the gluten free pizza crusts there. Open Original Shared Link PS: There are several locations in towns on the outskirts of Northern Atlanta that are carrying... -
ARCHIVED Insomnia Is Destroying My Relationship :(
GlutenFreeManna replied to missceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I struggle with insomnia now too. I don't know if it is related to celiac or not. Prior to going gluten free I had the opposite problem of sleeping all the time and never feeling rested. Now if I force myself to get enough sleep I don't fall asleep during the day. But it is really hard to make myself go to sleep. My mind is always awake. I stay up reading... -
ARCHIVED Parents Love To Go Out To Eat
GlutenFreeManna replied to trilobitian's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Is it possible they consider it a treat for them to go out to eat as well? I know with my in-laws that is the case. They would rather go out to eat than cook, especially when they have people staying with them. They don't like to waste time cooking and cleaning up; they would rather spend that time with the people visiting them. Perhaps your parent just... -
ARCHIVED Am I Over-Reacting To This?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for sharing your perspective and experience. I'm going to try to find a way to gently bring this up with my cousin the next time I talk to him. -
ARCHIVED It's Safe To Eat This Icecream?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Simona19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I have had their coconut milk ice cream and it is wonderful! I have only tried the chocolate one but it was so yummy. The one I had said gluten free, soy free and dairy free on the pint though. Might want to contact the company and ask which flavors are gluten free. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Plus Top 8 And Other Stuff Free Ideas
GlutenFreeManna replied to StephanieL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently found Open Original Shared Link for vegetarians with celiac. Perhaps you can find some ideas on there so you don't have to cook different meals? -
ARCHIVED What Do I Ask At A Restraurant?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you don't go to a place with a gluten free menu, then my advice above (just repeating gluten free) will not work. You will need to talk to the manager or the chef. The safest thing at most places would be a plain salad with no croutons, no won-ton strips, etc and no dressing. Bring your own dressing or ask for just olive oil on the salad. Ask that... -
ARCHIVED Am I Over-Reacting To This?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No. I am a teetotaler and I don't smoke. I don't think I'm mentally unstable, but I would hope my husband would tell me and get me some help if I were. -
I haven't been to a dentist for almost 5 years. I know I should have gone sooner, but I have not had dental insurance until recently and I never had any problems with my teeth. I do have problems with my gums bleeding a lot though. Even when I floss twice a day. Strange thing is my gums have started to get healthier since going gluten free. They bleed...
