ARCHIVED Flatbread Dilemma
GlutenFreeManna replied to Marilyn R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Start a new thread! I'm always looking for ideas. I make chickpea flour flat bread as well but that's about it (Beside corn tortillas and panackes). I like simple recipes, lol! I haven't really branched out in my making of flat breads. I would love one that makes grood wraps. -
ARCHIVED Flatbread Dilemma
GlutenFreeManna replied to Marilyn R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wonder if it would be possible to figure out the recipe for their bread based on the ingredients they use? Some posters here reverse engineered Udi's bread a while back to try to replicate it. If you want to try, just make a new post with the ingredients listed and we can start experimenting -
ARCHIVED Kids Selling Gluten!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I had some way of knowing for sure these kids were sellign for a legit cause I might consider contributing. However I tend to be suspiscious of kids carrying boxes of Krispy Creme donuts or candy bars that could have been bought at the 7-11 3 blocks away. We don't really have money to buy expensive stuff just to donate. I would rather give to kids I... -
ARCHIVED So Deliciuos Coconut Milk
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's just about all I use now! My husband eats it daily on gluten-free cereal and I use it for baking and cooking too. I like the "original" the best because it has a more neutral taste for things like mashed potatoes or soups. I will also get the unsweetened if they are out of the original. The vanilla is too sweet for me and obviously vanilla when used... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Be So Stupid?
GlutenFreeManna replied to stewartfan14's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're not stupid! You're just not in the habit of checking and double checking the ingredients label yet. You'll get there eventually! -
I'm confused now which part was wrong but I will be sure to pay attention to the original post when I make it again. The texture and taste of this bread today was a little like biscotti. I think that if I were to put the slices in the oven and dry them like you do for croutons it would make an excellent biscotti. Sorry to say my bread did not stay soft...

Too cute about the roo wooing! So my inlaws saga continues even though they are no longer here. MIL called yesterday to say they wanted to rent a beach house for a week in summer 2012 and have a little family reunion. They had not set the date yet and called to find out when would be good for us (and if we would go at all). There would be a lot of... -
ARCHIVED Flatbread Dilemma
GlutenFreeManna replied to Marilyn R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Contains traces of gluten" is WAY different than "MAY contain traces of gluten". I would write to them for clarification on whether they are actually putting small amounts of gluten in it and calling it gluten-free or if that is a processing risk statement. You may be able to enjoy it on occaision without incident but if it really has small amounts of... -
ARCHIVED Middle School Cooking Class
GlutenFreeManna replied to kaiess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it depends on if they do baking with flour everyday or if they are doing more cooking of meals. Some kids (and adults in college) have managed to get through cooking classes by being allowed to do the baked goods portion at home (so they still have to do the baking but can make it gluten-free and they are not in the class while flour is flying).... -

It's raining today and that fall chill is in the air so I had to make some soup. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Kids Selling Gluten!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do they not have dues? $25 per kid seems kind of high if they are paying dues on top of that. What does the money raised go towards? I would consider buying a coupon book for grocery store as long it it had soem coupons I could use in it. But instead I get the kids with the boxes of Kripsy Creme donuts and candy bars comign to my door. -

Do you happen to know if the cub scout popcorn has gluten, dairy or soy? I see the cub scouts selling popcorn outside my grocery stores. That's the only thing I have thought *maybe* I could buy but I don't want to approach them and give them false hope if I can't eat any of the popcorn. I usually try to enter the store at the entrance farthest away and... -
ARCHIVED Kids Selling Gluten!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was a kid we could not go on class field trips or participate in extracuricular activities (sports, band, choir, art, etc) unless we sold stuff. It was based on total class sales (as a class we had to reach a certain goal) however and not on an individual bassis. If the class as a whole didn't sell enoguh we didn't get a party. We coudl choose not... -
ARCHIVED Kids Selling Gluten!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was a kid my mom took me to all the neighbors we knew and also had me call family. But my mom was with me, it was small town and we knew those people on our street. We just moved in a little more than a month ago, I'm in a big city and these kdis were without any adults at all! What if we were kidknappers or child molesters or something?!? The... -
ARCHIVED Kids Selling Gluten!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They didn't have the actual pizzas with them. They sign you up and then you have to go pick up the pizzas at a later date from the school or maybe they bring them to you, I don't really know because I didn't ask. I don't like to buy from kids I don't know anyway because like another poster said who know what the money is really going to. -
If one more kid comes to my door trying to sell me something I think I am going to scream! Since school started back up we have had kids trying to sell us: donuts, cookies, candy bars, and pizza. I very politely explain to them that I can't buy anything because I have food allergies. They look very confused when I tell them that and I feel so bad but I...

If my husband said that to me he would be making his own dinner! Can he do some of the cooking? What do you make on vegan nights? Can he just throw some meat on the grill to supplement for the nights he wants more meat? Or would that cause the kids to just eat the meat and not eat your vegan dishes? -
ARCHIVED King Arthur Gluten Free Mixes
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have only used their gluten-free multi-purpose flour. It is really great! I make their pizza crust from their blog and the popover recipe on the box. I have read a few reviews on their pizza crust mix and people said it was not as good as the pizza crust made with the multi-purpose flour and the blog recipe. I don't know what the difference is between... -
I agree with karen, you should report this asap. While it does sound like gluten intolerance it could also be some type of infection you picked up there in Afganistan. Giradia is one that comes to mind that causes symptoms similar to gluten intolerance but it is a a parasite found in contaminated water. If it is an infection you need antibioitcs. Don...

ARCHIVED Is Maltose Sugar Safe?
GlutenFreeManna replied to lcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not eat it for this very reason. In Europe Codex Wheat starch has been deemed "safe" for most celiacs yet there are still some of us that react to that. People with wheat allergies would likely react as well. If you're feeling sick better to cut this out for a while to see how you feel. It could be the grains used to make the sugar or just too... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Bitter And Sick Of It
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Sylvia! Don't give up on making gluten-free things yet. Pizza is really easy if you can find King Arthur's multi-purpose gluten-free flour and use their recipe on their blog. On the box of flour they have a recipe for popovers that is great! The popovers taste like a small soft dinner roll to me. For your holiday cookies I suggest you post... -
It's the next morning and my kitchen still smells like the wonderful smell from this bread baking! I had a slice for breakfast and it tastes sweeter to me this morning. The crumb is somewhat like a cake texture and it is still soft with a nice crust. This crust is the best crust I have made on a gluten-free bread. Now that it is fall I will have to make...

Way to go! I never would have thought it would be that easy to fight. My husband got a $300 parking ticket in DC once. There was NO sign stating he could not park where he did and no meters or fire hydrant or yellow curb or anything. He took pictures of exactly where he parked and sent it with a letter to the court. Got back a reply that we would have... -
It is very good! My husband's words were: "If that is not a recipe you found online you should share it on celiac.com". Then I told him I found it here! I am wishing that it were either a little sweeter or less sweet and more savory. Next time I will try it with vanilla flavored almond milk since your recipe called for vanilla flavored rice milk...

Oh, you are genius! I am too lazy to cook tonight so pasta it is! I can have that ready in 15 minutes and have bread on the side.
