ARCHIVED Southern And Starving!
GlutenFreeManna replied to jesimae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It looks like everyone else answered your questions pretty well. I thought of this thread when I saw this recipe: Open Original Shared Link My hubby is a Southern boy so I'm going to try to make this for him tonight. Looks like good old comfort food. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like The Odd Man Out Here
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read your other post and I'm just curious-- if you are "asymptomatic" what lead your doctors to do the endoscopy to test for chrones? Some celiacs truely are asymptomatic, but very few are. Some people just have less bothersome symptoms or things that they never thought were symptoms until they went gltuen free and noticed they no longer had those symptoms... -
ARCHIVED What To Make In A Pinch?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Darwin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Frozen veggies in those steamer bags that you can put right in the microwave. Rice or rice noodles--if you have an International or Asian foods store you can find lots of varieties of rice noodles that cook in 5-10 minutes with just hot water (they are alos much cheaper than the specail gluten-free pastas). Progresso Soups (select varieties are gluten... -
ARCHIVED Doc Says Celiac - I'm Unconvinced
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to agree. Those test results are much MORE than many of us on this board got. Many people have to try the diet WITHOUT any positive test results at all. From what I have read about the tests they can be false negative fairly frequently (like 20% I think) but they are very rarely false postive. Jump out of de nile and into a gluten free life boat... -
ARCHIVED Xanthum Gum In The Ingredients?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Sarah B's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Xanthan Gum itself is gluten free. Natural flavors may not be. What product are you looking for information on? If you post asking about a specific product people here may be able to answer better the gluten free status. Here is a link to a list of unsafe ingredients: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ From that... -

Chinese Lemon chicken in the slow cooker with steamed broccoli and rice. It was good, but I like orange chicken better. -
Have you tried King Arthur's gluten-free pizza recipe? It's the closest I have found to Pizza Hut dough. I bet it would make good bread sticks, just drizzle a little extra oil on the top of them and top with parmesan and garlic salt. Open Original Shared Link ETA: Also I'm sorry you're struggling. Praying you get past the morning sickness time soon...

ARCHIVED For Those Of You That Are Soy Sensitive...
GlutenFreeManna replied to hnybny91's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
For me it depends on the type of soy I eat. Soy flour, soy milk or basically any straight form of soy (edamame, tofu, etc) will give me bad cramping like you are describing. Soybean oil or light soy cc gives me headaches. I also have swollen hands, swollen ankles and joint pain and fatigue when I eat soy on a regular basis. It may be that you are soy... -
ARCHIVED Was My Girlfriend Out Of Line?
GlutenFreeManna replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Without being there I can't say either way who was in the wrong. She may have acted rudely when you asked to eat elsewhere, but your attitude and how you handled it matters too. Did you apologize to her? Did you offer to make it up to her somehow? My husband understands it's not my fault I have this disease and he will go out of his way to make sure that... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Two nights ago we had Cabbage rolls. Last night we had lemon pepper chicken with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. Tonight I'm getting gluten free pizza from Z-Pizza for the Super Bowl. I'm also making homemade guacamole and hummus to dip tortilla chips in. If I get really motivated I might make some gluten free chex mix. I've been wanting... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Shocked
GlutenFreeManna replied to jesimae's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! I also had unexplained seizures and a positive ANA, but further testing ruled out lupus. It may take a few months for some of your neurological symptoms to resolve. It's best (IMO) if you eat as much whole unprocessed foods as possible to heal faster. -
ARCHIVED Panera Bread...watch It!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Bella001's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've gotten sick at Panera from just sitting in the restaurrant while my hubby had a sweet tea. I won't go in there again. I mean, they make bread there daily. There is flour dust in the air and on everything. Maybe it would be okay for someone that has a very mild gluten intolerance or someone that is doing the gluten-free diet to be trendy, but it's... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Doctors...help?
GlutenFreeManna replied to WesternMA12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may be able to get a diagnosis based on a biopsy of the rash. Tell them that there is DH/celiac in your family history and you want to be tested. A good dermatologist will take a sample of the skin right next to the ligions. Unfortunately many doctors and even derms are not familiar enough with celiac to do these simple tests. They still think it... -
ARCHIVED Question About Chebe Bread Mix
GlutenFreeManna replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make the pizza crust and leave out the parm and it tastes fine to me (I have also made it with parm and I couldn't really tell the difference). I also have changed up the seasonings because I make my own "chebe" with Tapioca flour. It's good whether I use Itailian seaosnings or just garlic salt. I've even done cajun seasoning salt once and it gave it... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Crave Tortilla Chips?
GlutenFreeManna replied to beebee28's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Are you using a table salt with iodine in it when you make veggies or other things that call for salt? I had cut out the iodine for a few months when I first went gltuen free because I read that it can irritate DH. I was using only sea salt and kosher salt. I love these salts more than table salt, but then I read that we really NEED iodine, and it doesn... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Eat Anything Anymore! I Give Up :(
GlutenFreeManna replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are still suspecting gluten I would look at the popcorn or peanuts from your original list. I have yet to find any peanuts without a disclaimer that they were "processed on the same equipment as wheat" or "may contain wheat". I eat them anyway and I'm really sesitive, I just really love nuts. I understand however when I eat nuts it's like playing... -
ARCHIVED Upcharges For gluten-free Food At Restaurants
GlutenFreeManna replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've really only noticed it for gluten free pizza. It makes sense to me--the gluten-free crusts are probably more expensive than the flour crusts and then they have to keep a separate workstation for gluten-free only toppings in another room (at least this is how they said they do it at Mellow Mushroom). Unless they sell many gluten-free pizzas a day those... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Last night we had Lasaagne with gluten free noodles. I recently found Tinkyada pasta in stores near me. I was so excited because I had read great reviews of it here. It turns out y'all were right! It tasted JUST like regular lasagna. My DH even asked if I sure it was gluten free. Success! -
I totally understand how it is to not be able to afford better cuts of meat. There are several ways to stretch the meat, however, when you get something like a good steak. Rather than eat it as a steak, slice into strips and make a stir-fry or fajitas. Add more veggies and you won't even notice you have half a large steak in there. Cut into chunks and...

I second this suggestion. I have found everytime I buy non-organic chicken I don't feel as well. It's not a speciifc symptom, just a general malaise. Non-organic chicken is not injected with any hormones (it's against the law in the US) but it is injected with antibiotics. I get the Harvestland chicken at BJ's to save money on it. It is much more expensive...

ARCHIVED German Pancake Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to waterlily-'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here's another recipe you could try: Open Original Shared Link If you don't need it to be dairy free, just use milk and butter instead of rice milk and coconut oil. The proportionas of this recipe are MUCH different than the one you are working with-- maybe it will work out better with the greater number of eggs. -
ARCHIVED Chebe Without Eggs Or Dairy?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Charlie's Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have also noticed that sometimes the dough is stiffer depending on the size of eggs I use. If I use medium eggs instead of large, for example I will end up having to add a couple more tablespoons of almond milk to make the dough workable. So you might play with the amounts of liquid. I don't think you will come up with anything exactly like the Chebe... -
ARCHIVED Chebe Without Eggs Or Dairy?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Charlie's Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Never tried to make it without eggs, but I make the pizza crust without dairy. I use almond milk and just leave out the parm. I don't think leaving the eggs will work unless you also add some xanthan gum. Does the egg-replacer have xanthan? The egs make it chewy/stretchy so I can see why it would be terrible without eggs. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cosmetics?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Jess-Ay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The answer depends on your personal level of sensitivity and your hygiene/eating habits. I'm one of the few that reacts topically by breaking out in hives when I use products with wheat germ oil in them. Perhaps I also have an allergy. Beyond that, however, I also try to make sure anything that touches my hands is gluten free. The reason being is that...
