  1. It sounds like you need focus less on food and more on the people you are spending time with. Don't get me wrong, I'm super sensitive and afraid to eat out at many places too. But there ARE places with gluten free menus that do things right. Try taking your friends or family members to those places. Still ask all the necessary questions to be safe, but...
  2. Oh my. Reminds me of that scene from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding?" Tulla: "Aunt Voula, he doesn't eat meat." Voula: "He don't eat no meat? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DON'T EAT NO MEAT?" **Everyone stops and stares** Voula: "Oh, it's okay. I make lamb." **Party continues**
  3. If you are going to do the diet you have to be strict for it to work. Even a little bit can cause symptoms in most people. I posted in another thread about a friend with a toddler she was trying to take gluten free. She kept feeding him cheerios because she figured they were good for him and the little bit of wheat starch in them wouldn't hurt him. His...
  4. I know someone like that too. She was diagnosed with DH, so she has celiac, but she doesn't have any other symptoms. She does eat gluten free when she's on her own, but if she goes to a party and people offer her a cookie she will eat it. She doesn't mind having a rash occasionally and would rather deal with the DH later instead of "being rude". I have...
  5. Were you diagnosed with a biopsy of the small intestines? If your biopsy results showed any villi damage at all that is an indication that you will be lactose intolerant. The villi in you intestines produce lcatase, which you body needs to break down lactose. If you have damaged villi then you won't be able to produce enough lactase to break it down, hence...
  6. No I don't think that is withdrawal. What is she eating? If she is eating a lot of gluten -free substitutes, she could be sensitive to something else in them she doesn't typically eat. But also, gluten free breads and baked goods don't have as much fiber so the reaction could be C. That could explain the nausea, stomach pains and vomiting. Get her some...
  7. I wonder if you could actually make homemade Kit Kat's by crush some Chex and pouring chocolate over them in a chocolate mold?
  8. What are you eating? Give us a run down of your typical meals and snacks and maybe we can make suggestions of what to cut. Also, I know you're not going to want to hear this, but, have you tried cutting out dairy as well? Many people are temporarily lactose intolerant when they first go gluten free. The good news is if you cut it out for a while, you...
  9. I would respond that a little bit of e.coli in their food (probably) won't kill them either, but would they eat something they knew had e.coli and would give them symptoms of food poisoning? People need to understand that it's not like this is just a fad health diet, were we can eat gluten "in moderation". Gluten is the same thing as poison to us.
  10. Another thing you can try if you are dairy free is coconut ice cream. There's a brand that even makes gluten free dairy free and soy free chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Yum!
  11. Glad you had a good day! I tend to overpack when packing food for days like that as well. Better to have too much you can eat than not enough. A cooler with wheels comes in handy if you ever find yourself without the stroller. BTW, everytime I see the title of this thread I picture someone doing yoga or something on the beach say "I will be the...
  12. I have this same conversation repeatedly. Often it comes up when people ask why I can't go out to eat someplace. I usually only get halfway through my list of food I can't eat when they stop me and ask, "What CAN you eat? No seriously, what do you ate everyday?" When I tell them chicken, beef vegetables, fruit. It is inevitability followed by them saying...
  13. The one that really got me upset was the woman who insisted she was feeding her toddler a gluten free diet while her toddler ate mostly cheerios for snacks. Me: Cheerios have wheat in them. Her: No they don't, they are oats. Me: They have wheat starch listed in the ingredients and besides some celiacs react to oats. Her: Well a little bit...
  14. If you are super hungry all the time try eating a high protein snack instead of your usual high-carb, high sugar. If you eat something like a hard boiled egg or a piece of meat or even just a spoonful of natural (or low sugar) peanut butter then you will be less hungry latter than if you eat carbs. But if you have to have a carby sweet snack, don't go for...
  15. I have noticed that if you accidentally hit "mark Board as read" it will not show anything until more posts are made. Come back later and I bet some posts will show up for you.
  16. I was excited to see a new bread option, but sad to see it has soy. Oh well, at least it's one more mainstream company making gluten free stuff. Those that can eat it, buy lots if it's good so they will see it as a success. Once the word gets out among the mainstream companies that they really is a market for gluten-free stuff more will join in hopefully...
  17. I don't know about reactions to ginger, but is the tuna you are eating soy-free? There are only a couple ones that are. So that might be something to look into as well. Ginger is supposed to stop D and sooth your stomach so it seems unlikely. But then again if someone had told me a year ago that a piece of bread could make me sick I would have laughed...
  18. I love you all! Thank you. I left a little plus mark on each post to let you know I read it and appreciate it. So let me get this straight..next time I'm asked I will reply: "Well I'm a kept woman mooching off my husband who spoils me while we live in luxury, I do nothing at all, really, I'm a homemaker who freelances in a little bit of everything...
  19. Glad she pulled through just fine! Thanks for the update Connie's daughter.
  20. If you can't find gluten free bread to make a sandwich, you have several options: 1. Use rice cakes---not exactly the same texture as bread, but two rice cakes will hold sandwich filling or even a hamburger just fine, I even make peanut butter and jelly rice cakes sometimes to take with me because they don't have to be kept as cold. 2. Use corn or rice...
  21. I have muscle pain/cramping in my legs, joint pain/swelling joints, weakness in my hands, shaky hands, brain fog, fatigue, high emotionality (will cry at any silly little thing), blurred vision, fainting spells/passing out out from the pain, chest pain... and many more little things but those are the ones I can think of right now. All of this went away without...
  22. He needs to get plenty of good fats and carbs. Things like corn chips and guacamole, gluten free toast with peanut butter, steaks and potatoes, hard boiled eggs, milk and cheese can help as well if he can have them, make him rich food like gluten free mac and cheese, gluten free pizza, etc. As I'm sure you know, a lot of gluten free substitutes are higher...
  23. Hi and welcome to the board! Yes what your doctor told you about some people testing negative but still being sensitive is true. Many people get false negatives for the tests, but positive changes when they do the diet. It sounds like you had some symptoms go away when you ate gluten free. That means you need to stick to the gluten free diet. 6.5 weeks...
  24. I hope your husband comes around and gets the tests. I have been working on my husband too. He doesn't have a bunch of illness, but he has had stomach pains on his left side for the last few months (maybe longer, he didn't tell me until he was so bad he was going to a doctor about it). I have tried to convince him this pain could be from gluten (he is...
  25. Ooh, this is exactly what I'm talking about. As far as I know, no one has gone around trash talking me, but I have gotten a few comments to my face before like, "wow that must be a luxury" Or "Must be nice to be able to be lazy". If I had had a child before getting sick I would have had to hire someone to help me too when I was really bad. I couldn't get...
