ARCHIVED I Want A Cup Of Coffee So Bad Right Now
love2travel replied to Poppi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Coffee is one of the few things on this planet that holds no appeal to me whatsoever. But then I prefer vanilla (bean) over chocolate any time, too! -
ARCHIVED Foods That Have Made You Happy Since Becoming Gluten Free
love2travel replied to Melstar23's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Far too many to list - it would be literally hundreds. I've always been passionate about food and since going gluten-free that passion and crative cooking has not changed. Foods that make me happiest are naturally gluten-free and fairly exotic. I have a very adventurous palate and enjoy ethnic cooking such as Indian, Syrian, Ethiopian, Lebanese, British... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
love2travel replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have luscious flank steak marinating in a Thai-inspired lemongrass kaffir lime marinade. We are going to grill to medium rare, slice thinly against the grain and place in cellophone wrappers with cucumber, carrot and radish matchsticks, tiny microgreens from the garden and vermicelli noodles and drizzle with Thai dressing. Celeriac and green apple slaw... -
ARCHIVED Chex (gluten-free) And Lara Bars Finally At My Store In Canada!
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good to know. We do not have a membership as the nearest Costco is 3 hours' drive from here but maybe it is something we should look into. Do they carry Udi products? Our bread is $7.49 per loaf here. -

As dull as it gets - gluten-free Choco Stars cereal. Am going to have fresh nectarines and yogurt for a snack, though. And dinner will be yummy... -
I have never seen any Chex in Canada (let alone gluten-free Chex) and today while I was grocery shopping, there was a whole stack of gluten-free Chex - regular and honey something. Wow. We seem so behind the times here in Canada when it comes to gluten-free products! This store is also now stocking Lara Bars in 3 flavours! I had to buy a few to see what...

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't tried them but have seen them so am curious as to what they are like. Let us know! I've had the Kinnikinnick doughnuts that some people really enjoy but I must say I found them underwhelming. Perhaps the recency effect is still in place with me - I had my last good real yeast doughnut in February and still remember how delicious it was. -

I'm hoping to tonight but it's doubtful as my face is still frozen. But we do have yummy meal plans for tomorrow! There's always hope. -
ARCHIVED Can't... Stop... Sleeping...
love2travel replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm the opposite as well. I have gone three full nights without falling asleep so feel barely functional. I have far more sleepless nights than those that I do sleep. I sleep well about once every ten days (mostly due to chronic pain). It's a rough cycle! Sorry to be of no help whatsoever. Just chimed in because we all have such varying problems with... -

Instead of breakfast this morning I was in my dentist's chair - I broke a tooth over the weekend and needed to get that taken care of this morning. Long appointment but glad it's over! -
ARCHIVED Did You Have A Dark Time Dealing With This?
love2travel replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I was diagnosed with celiac disease I was shocked out of my mind (not expecting it - just a screening which led to biopsies). I had a tough couple of months mainly because one of my passions is food - another is travel and the two go hand in hand. I actually initially felt as though it was a death sentence as I was teaching culinary classes. You should... -
ARCHIVED Need Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Almond And Rice Free Treat Recipe
love2travel replied to Poppi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes - plus you can add so many things to the batter such as toasted slivered almonds, coconut, chocolate chunks, etc. I think meringues and pavlovas are underrated for something so simple and delicious (not to mention incredibly cheap). -
ARCHIVED Need Help From The Chefs On The Board
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The more uncommon, unique and interesting the better (to me). I love playing around with things, grinding them up, making rubs and so on. As an aside, dried mushrooms (i.e. porcini) ground up in a spice grinder make an excellent addition to many dishes, not to mention as rubs. Anyway, you could probably get a spice (or coffee) grinder for $10-$15 and... -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
People often ask me that and unfortunately the answer is NO brother. He's cooking dinner tonight, too, and I have no clue what it will be (except I know it will involve the grill). -
ARCHIVED Wow! U.s. Has Variety Of gluten-free Options!
love2travel replied to anna34's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's true that I likely wouldn't buy those products, anyway, but for some reason it is kind of fun to know that they are mainstream! Sort of makes one feel almost normal. Weird logic, I know... -

And I have not seen any of those in Canada (except some rather icky crackers)! We have some catching up to do here... But I am happy for those who have access to interesing things! -

ARCHIVED Breads & Rolls
love2travel replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The hotdog buns at our store are $8.49 for 4! No way - that's $2.12 each!!! Insanity. I agree - the Kinnikinnick pizza crusts just plain SUCK. No matter how yummy the sauce you make it cannot disguise eating drywall! I make my own pizza - much better than purchased ones I've bought. Will post recipes. In addition to homemade sauce I swirl in some... -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The first few words are exciting but how disappointing to hear the rest of the story! I would be really annoyed, too. How hard is it to make gluten-free waffes?? How frustrating for you. We have no gluten-free restaurants anywhere even remotely close here (must drive 3 hours). But if they are like that one....what can I say? How sad.
