  1. The gluten-free hot dog buns here are $8.49 for 4!!! Cannot recall the brand - I know it was not Udi's. Still sticking to making my own for now but do want to try Udi's, though.
  2. I neglected to mention soups that are traditionally served cold like Gazpacho, Vichyssoise, Minted Sprint Pea, etc. Seafood ceviche is wonderful if you buy the protein truly fresh.
  3. Lemongrass Shrimp with Pomegranate Glaze Ginger Rice with Thai Basil Warm Mushroom Salad with Toasted Hazelnuts and Black Garlic Warm Banana Peanut Butter Cake with Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache
  4. I always make my own - have done brandy, rum and vodka. Although I don't drink much at all, I love all three in vanilla.
  5. How about meringues or individual pavlovas? Gives you license to be creative and fun to look at and eat.
  6. I would personally not let gluten-free eating stand in the way of traveling and doing something you love! Although I am not from the US so have no comments on what to eat on the route, I just thought I'd encourage you to go for it. My husband and I did a three-week trip to Croatia and Italy recently (long flights, layovers, drives, grocery store stops and...
  7. I recently contacted them and Reese's cups definitely cannot be trusted. The woman I spoke with said they are not made on a dedicated line and agred there is always a risk of gluten, no matter which package (in Canada at least). She certainly was not at all hopeful! I won't chance it.
  8. You must be relieved to have this done and to have found the polyps so early! And now you get to go on vacation that you truly deserve. Thanks for reporting back - I was wondering how you were doing!
  9. Most of these popsicle recipes look wonderful! I am going to make the Pineapple Coconut popsicles. Yum! Open Original Shared Link
  10. There are a lot of guys who couldn't say they've had homemade marshmallows! Awesome. I know what you mean about cooking for someone and cooking together. It would make a tremendous difference. When my husband is away my cooking sometimes gets a touch slacker. Cooking for someone else with love sure adds incentive! Glad to have you here...
  11. I'm weird because I'm the opposite - I would never buy them but make them myself! They are divine in hot chocolate.
  12. Sorry about the grill situation. It is something I have taken for granted! One thing that does not involve a grill is making various kinds of pesto to use on soooo many things including microwave-baked potatoes (since that doesn't heat up the place much). The sorbet or coconut milk ice cream sound great! I'm making watermelon granita right now. ...
  13. How wonderful to have your little girl share your passion! You are so right about learning about science through cooking and baking. It makes so much more sense than numbers on paper. Well, at least to me it does! Plus the results taste better than paper...
  14. Wow - that's far too hot. Frozen treats such as granitas and adult popsicles are amongst my favourites. Oh, and limoncello. But as far as actual foods go, we love to grill marinaded beef, chicken, lamb, or pork, skewer them, wrap in bibb lettuce and drizzle over some sort of Korean or Thai sauce. Love lamb that has been marinated in yogurt/sumac/garlic...
  15. My background is Human Resources. I quit that a few years ago to follow my passion with food/cooking and started teaching cooking classes at college, in homes, and a gourmet kitchen. I also test recipes for magazines and companies (mostly in the U.S. but of course can only do gluten-free recipes). Plus I do small catering events. These are all incredibly...
  16. Perhaps this article may be helpful to those who have been newly diagnosed: Open Original Shared Link Obtained from Shelley Case's newsletter. Much of it is geared to the U.S. and not us Canadians as far as products go but the content still may be of some benefit. *Keep in mind this article is four years old so prices may have changed. However, the...
  17. As pork and apple go together superbly, why not simply grill or roast them and brush with an apple glaze or applesauce and/or apple slices? One of my favourite things with pork sausage is Bangers and Mash with Caramelized Onions. Since time is short you could still do the mash while the pork is grilling or roasting. You could make a quick pan sauce with...
  18. gluten-free artisan bratwurst with homemade hot dog buns, homemade spicy honey mustard I made the other day and caramelized onions Creamed corn with Bourbon Chipotle double roasted potatoes with chipotle en adobo Watermelon cubes with aged balsamic
  19. Others have given you great suggestions. FYI there is no need to purchase many gluten-free cookbooks as lots of recipes are already naturally gluten-free or so easy to change (i.e. just use gluten-free soy sauce). gluten-free baking books are a different story. I would recommend Annalise Roberts, the CIA book or Blackbird Bakery - Gluten Free. There are...
  20. I have never eaten out at a fast food restaurant while gluten-free. Actually, I rarely have anyway because we do not have any in this area that have anything truly good and flavourful. I just would not chance it. We have literally NO restaurants in town I can safely eat at so we must drive to the city three hours away to eat out. Like Jestgar, I pack...
  21. I, too, make my own bread simply as I prefer it to purchased (except Udi's is pretty good) and I love baking too much to give it up. Like a few others on this board one of my goals is to make really and truly wonderful gluten-free bread, pizza, fresh pasta, croissants, English muffins and so on. Anything yeasty. Cakes, cookies, brownies and quick breads...
  22. You can call me Miss Picky Pants II!! My expectations are sooooo high and I still remember the delicious yeasty smells and tastes. Nor am I likely to ever forget. Not when you love food as much as I do.
  23. I worried for nothing about my scopes. They were done before I knew it! I was very hungry afterwards - my choice of food was KFC chicken (one last fat-laden hurrah). Report back when you can! All the best...
  24. The connection with food and family totally makes sense. It is amazing how a bite of something can bring back great memories! Food brings people together. Good for you for baking! gluten-free cornbread is as delicious as gluten cornbread. Same with many types of cookies (i.e. chocolate chip). And cakes. The things that are a bit trickier are recipes...
  25. Hmmmmm...lard definitely is not the wisest choice for cholesterol! It is awesome in pastry crust, of course. Have you tried coconut shortening?
