Insomnia is truly a horrid thing. Like you, I am lucky if I have one good sleep per week. However, for some reason (perhaps the B12 sublingual and/or B complex and/or Vitamin D3) when I do sleep well (rare) I feel like I could conquer the world. I am full of energy. But with chronic pain it is so difficult to get in a comfortable position and fall asleep...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
love2travel replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight we had yummy leftovers from last evening (Swedish meatballs et. al. with the addition of freshly-baked gluten-free bread slathered with homemade strawberry jam). This weekend we are dogsitting in the country and are taking things along to make the following for tomorrow night: Cider Brined Roast Chicken with Saffron, Citrus and Honey Glaze Roast... -
ARCHIVED Chex (gluten-free) And Lara Bars Finally At My Store In Canada!
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Awesome! In one of our flyers today they are on sale for $3.99 which is unheard of for gluten-free cereal so I am going to stock up like mad! -
ARCHIVED Hibachi Style Noodles
love2travel replied to MollyBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Have you tried soba noodles? They are made with buckwheat and are thicker than rice noodles - they are like udon. They have a nice bite to them. We had some the other night and found them to be vastly superior to rice noodles (in our opinions). As hibachi literally means spicy bowl I would also add some pepper flakes and/or Sriracha sauce, gluten-free... -

Awesome. It is heartwarming to hear of such excellent spousal support. My husband has yet to make gluten-free bread like yours! It is a huge compliment that you eat better than many restaurants. We do, too, in all seriousness. And the risk of CC is far less at home, too. As far as the pain goes, I force my way through it. Part of the reason why I... -

It has been a long wait for news this good! At my celiac support group meeting last night someone mentioned that the Chex is also at WalMart!!!! Double YAY! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Feel Like A Full Time Chef?!

You are so right. Things would be different if I had a FT job, that is for sure. I volunteer some mornings at a shelter, I teach cooking classes regularly, test recipes for big US magazines but this does not equate to FT work. Plus with such horrific back pain there is no way I could work FT hours. I have been off work due to chronic pain for over three... -
ARCHIVED Toothpaste gluten-free
love2travel replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dental office told me I should avoid it because of trace amounts of gluten. Perhaps I am too picky??!! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Feel Like A Full Time Chef?!
love2travel replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Am guessing they are akin to the cevapcici (pronounced chev-ap-chee-chee) in Eastern Europe? If that is what is meant they are skinless seasoned meat patties or sausages that are typically served with ajvar, a lovely European condiment which includes eggplant, red peppers, garlic and chili peppers. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Feel Like A Full Time Chef?!
love2travel replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE spending time in my kitchen. I practically live there! When I am not cooking or baking for us, I am teaching culinary classes or testing recipes. We have never gone out to eat much around here because there is nowhere to go so we are used to driving three hours to eat at a nice place. As I must lie down in our vehicle to go distances... -

ARCHIVED Toothpaste gluten-free
love2travel replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
FYI Crest informed me that although their toothpastes are gluten-free, their Pro-Health Rinse and Whitening Rinse can contain trace amounts of gluten. Sensodyne toothpaste cannot guarantee gluten-free status. It was my favourite toothpaste and had to switch. When you go to the dentist be sure to ask whether their rinses, etc. are gluten-free. I was... -

ARCHIVED Find Any Strange New Things You Love Food Wise?
love2travel replied to Newtoitall's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Various flours such as coconut, almond, teff, garfava, millet, sorghum, etc. There are 18 flours in my freezer, all of which I use for baking. It is fun to see how different flours react/act in baking. Whilst I've always liked pulses, there are now more in our diet now including cranberry beans, all sorts of lentils, more chickpeas than before, desi... -
ARCHIVED Pizza Bagels With Udi's.
love2travel replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use my own homemade pizza sauce, homemade pesto (all kinds), fresh basil and mushrooms. And if I am feeling rather indulgent, crispy pancetta or bacon jam. Another favourite of mine is to make bianca or "white" pizza the way they do it in Italy. It simply is very fresh olive oil, fresh herbs and a sprinkling of good salt. Also nice with Parmesan, Asiago... -
ARCHIVED A Few Questions. Please Please Help!
love2travel replied to hotpinkbubbles0786's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Having had Schar and Udi bread, Udi's is FAR better. Trust me. Schar's is one of the absolute worst I have ever tried and I refuse to have it again. Ever. The texture is horrid. Udi's is a vast improvement. My preference is to make my bread but for those not inclined Udi's is really pretty good (especially toasted). Have never seen Rudi's bread but... -
ARCHIVED Chex (gluten-free) And Lara Bars Finally At My Store In Canada!

Super Store (Loblaws). Believe me, I was stunned to see them. I actually got tears in my eyes because I was that astounded! Maybe I should go and grab 20 boxes to ensure they continue selling them here! They were not in the regular cereal section nor where they in the gluten-free section - in between those aisles at the very end (teaser aisle). At... -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Gluten Challenge - 4 Days No Reaction So Far!
love2travel replied to sreese68's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I went on my gluten challenge for nearly 4 months I felt very good! Absolutely NO obvious reactions at all. I actually quite enjoyed eating my favourite foods once again. But there was no doubt on my biopsies that I have celiac disease. I had such high hopes that I didn't have it because I felt so great! So, your daughter may still have celiac... -

ARCHIVED Chex (gluten-free) And Lara Bars Finally At My Store In Canada!
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is a very good price! I look forward to checking this out. Had my Chex this morning and it is very good. It is definitely the best gluten-free cereal (by far) I have ever tried. I have never had Chex before - when we visit the US we generally don't have cereal! -
ARCHIVED Pizza Bagels With Udi's.
love2travel replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I look forward to trying Udi's bagels. Have you tried the Udi's pizza crust? They are thin and crisp but pretty good - about 1,903,476 times better than Kinnikinnick pizza crust and bagels. Those are absolutely horrid. I still like making my own crust best but sometimes when you're in a rush it is nice to have crusts on hand (will freeze more of my own... -
