  1. So I decided today that I do need something "positive" to keep me on this gluten-free diet. My "gluten challenge" before was one bowl of wheat (was too nervous to do anything more than that), and 4 days later had a GI "reaction", so I went back gluten-free for a while. I'm thinking now that 1 bowl of wheat wasn't sufficient a challenge to actually see if...
  2. I'd second this suggestion, but I take some of what he says with a pinch of salt. I can't remember specifics, but some of what he said didn't really have any scientific basis and he didn't really explain it other than saying it worked for him. I know of someone who was very ill with Chrons who got a lot better after following this diet. Then again...
  3. Agreed with Ravenwood Get tested first, and then immediately go gluten-free anyway for a few weeks to see if it clears up symptoms even if tests come back negative. I get very sore knees (they feel "unoiled"/creaky) when I get accidently glutened. I've also noticed my back pain coming back the last week or so when I was glutened, so wondering if that...
  4. Well celiac is hereditary, so looks like you're on the right track If you've been eating lots of gluten up to now, you should consider getting tested first before you go gluten free, would be good to know for your baby whether it's definate or not. Of course, even if the testing all comes back negative, you both might do better without gluten; but for...
  5. Since we don't have any ready-made gluten-free pizza crusts here, I just make my own from corn meal. Can make it either crispy by making the dough layer very thin, or slightly doughy. Tastes pretty good, and you can make up a whole batch, cook it up and freeze it for later.
  6. This really hit a chord with me, I went through the exact same process. First two weeks or so very strict gluten free, only meat, veggies, rice, potatoes, and I felt really great. Then I had a chance to investigate the health stores and got my fingers into the gluten-free starchy stuff, and now I'm back to feeling crap again, although still much better...
  7. The aching bones only lasts for a day or two at most for me, Srall. Stomach problems a few more days. Good to know I'm not the only one with "granny" knees
  8. So sorry you're not getting results India I second the removing chicken/turkey from your diet, and please make sure eggs are out as well for now That stuff does horrible, horrible things to me. Supplements? For the big C I've found Magnesium supplements are helping a lot - get a high dose of Mg Citrate or Mg AAC (Amino acid complex) at least...
  9. Hi there, Can't really say what a high result means, but the total IgA test you refer to is usually just done to check if you have a IgA deficiency, which would invalidate the other IgA tests. I don't think a high level is cause for concern, but check with your doctor when you see him Your other tests were negative, which is either because you don...
  10. Thanks for the info. So the result can vary somewhat depending on the technician's skill or laboratory?
  11. Just high compared to my result Thanks for explaining the reference ranges
  12. Well you're probably making her feel guilty eating her unhealthy donuts and hotdogs I find a lot of hurtful comments are from people feeling insecure about their own dietary choices and perhaps lack of willpower in cutting down on the carbs Don't feel bad, I bring a lunchbox to work and snack the *whole* day, I'm continuously hungry nowadays. Beats...
  13. I was good friends with someone who was bulimic in high school, and during college (or just afterwards?) she was diagnosed with celiac disease. I've lost touch with her since, so I don't know if the bulimia has gone away with going gluten-free, but at least in her case there was a link.
  14. lmao! Yes, Kellogs is definately a Glutenopoly!
  15. Brilliant idea! Glutnosis - the hypnotic trance that the tasty gluten-filled temptations put me into when I pass by the bakery section at the store As an alternative for Glutatives - the senseless addition of gluten (as an "additive") to otherwise gluten-free food, just to ruin my day. See Kellog's Rice Krispies, sausages, Bar Ones etc...
  16. I'm walking around at work this morning thinking, "Hey, my knees are pretty sore" (They get this creaky, un-oiled feeling), so I feel like a granny walking down the stairs. And tonight the small feet bones in my one foot are aching a bit. But it took until tonight for me to realise it's yet another glutening. And I can bet you $20 I'll have stiff hands...
  17. IgA TTg - 1.4 (Ref 0.0 - 6 negative, > 6 positive) IgG TTg - 0.4 (Ref 0.0 - 7 negative, > 7 positive) Um, I'm not 100% sure which is which, the first might be IgG not IgA, since the results were dictated over the phone... That's after 3 weeks gluten-free, so I guess not really an accurate result So over-all result negative, anti-gliadin...

    ARCHIVED Do I Have Dh?

I second this suggestion - I was wearing tight fitting undervests during a very cold spell recently, and oh boy after 2 days was I scratching myself to pieces! The vests are cotton, but I think the constant and tight fit irritated my skin greatly. I also get a rash on my ankles - I blame this on wearing socks with boots for too many days in a row....
  19. Have you tried Magnesium supplements? Just curious if they helped at all for you if you did? All the fiber in the world won't help if your smooth muscle is not contracting sufficiently to move things along.
  20. Ah crap, so sorry you got glutened Skylark Especially frustrating when you go to so much trouble to stay gluten-free and then someone else gets your meal D: Hope you feel better soon... And wow, 6th sense regarding gluten??
  21. Just wanted to say well done for insisting it "wasn't just anaemia"! You've saved yourself a whole host of serious problems that you could've picked up later on It is frustrating that the doctors and dieticians are on separate pages regarding celiac disease. It's the same here - My nutritionist is super-anti-gluten-don't-even-think-about-eating-oats...
  22. Sending lots of hugs your way. It's bad enough when I buy a treat for the hubby, or going to a work function, to avoid temptation. But when your gluten-intolerant mom is stocking the pantry, must be extremely difficult to say no. I'd keep a stash of safe treats to snack on - fruit, chocolate whatever - when the temptation hits, tell yourself you'll...
  23. Like I said in a recent post, I really think these people taking chances have not seen the ugly side of gluten. They probably don't have neurological problems (That would freak the hell out of me), extreme stomach problems or food intolerances. On the other hand, gluten frankly scares me. I have a very healthy fear of the poison, from what it's done to...
  24. Geez, if these people knew what gluten was doing to them... I mean if you're sero-negative and biopsy was ok, I can understand slipping up from time to time. But a full-dose celiac diagnosis means you are producing auto-immune antibodies, your body is attacking yourself! How do you keep eating that poison knowing the damage it's doing to you? For...
  25. Don't worry, it happens to all of us. I've been gluten-free for just over a month now, and it's a case of feeling great for a few days, accidently getting glutened, feeling crap for a few more days, and the cycle starts all over again. Each time I just ID what I did wrong, add it to my watch list and continue. Most mistakes are from "spontaneous" things...
