Hi Badgerette, and welcome to the forum! I hope you start feeling better soon. Some people start developing other food intolerances. For me it was soy, dairy, corn and some of the alternate grains like gluten-free oatmeal and quinoa. I'm ok with those foods now (haven't tried reintroducing soy or quinoa though, and probably won't). Other people...
  2. Thank you for the kind and informative post. I appreciate it!!
  3. I had a visit with my PCP today and she want's to run more blood work on me. I brought the L-Glutamine bottle with me and told her it had been connected with abnormal liver blood tests, but that I'd stopped taking it and wanted to wait a few months before re-testing. She told me in 15 years she'd never seen a connection and that I could have Hepatitis with...
  4. Hi Marilyn, thanks for your comment- hello and all the best to you!

  5. I wish you the best too, Katie, and am only piping in to mention that there are some precautions with L-Glutamine and celiac disease, diagnosed or undiagnosed. That may be something you want to check out in conjunction with protecting your liver. The gluten-free diet won't hurt you, and could very well help you very much. The only thing I'm saying...
  6. It sounds like you have a good doctor. Sorry you're having a rough go, do let us know what happens next, and wish you the best!
  7. Hope you like the warmer southern weather! Isn't it strange people don't go "up north" for the weekend?

  8. Yes, I've experienced the loss of friends. I was so sick for so long, and they kept calling me and I kept saying no. I'm pretty sure they got sick of being turned down. I felt guilty about saying "No" so often. When I started feeling better, I didn't want to risk going to restaurants or bars to socialize with my old friends, and on my first few social...
  9. Hi Katie, I wholeheartedly agree with mamaw. It's not like you're smoking, something that would be harmful to your health and something that would be reasonable for your mother to be upset about. I'm not diagnosed with celiac disease, but I suffer from fairly severe neurological and gastrointestinal issues if I accidently ingest gluten. I spend...
  10. The OP has not replied, but I'm loving this topic. I look for what's on sale and buy in bulk when there's a good deal. Next month corned beef will be on sale. I love corned beef for breakfast with fried onions and potatos, or with steamed cabbage and taters, or with saurkraut. And you can make a mean gluten-free Ruben fairly easy.
  11. Welovegators, thanks for the heads up about steroid nasal sprays! That won't be on my list for the doctor's visit. It's not like I get stuffed up anyway, I just have an annoying nasal drip. "Marilyn - did you get any allergy testing done at any point in your journey?" Gail, about 8 months after going gluten-free, I went to an allergist and had the...
  12. Last night we had grilled salmon marinated in fresh grapefruit juice, roast sweet pototos and grilled asparagus with chocolate for dessert. Tonight we had pinto bean and bacon soup with mini grilled sirloin burgers and salad.
  13. Marilyn - would you mind sharing if it is all antihistamines, or which ones in particular, cause you hiving issues? Good news, I think, Zyrtec is the only antiistimine that didn't make me break out in hives before I went gluten-free. I by gosh haven't had to take an antihistimine since then, almost two years. And the steroid nasal sprays always...
  14. Flowersmom, If you send me a private message with your addy, I'll send you a care package for your little girl without oats, tomatoes, eggs oranges, bananas or corn. I also suggest calling your school system to inquire if they have a social worker on staff for the school district. The SW could have more local resources. Marilyn
  15. Hi Flowermom, Karen G gave some excellent recommendations. I would also suggest checking to see if you have any local gluten-free support groups to write or visit. Ours has an assistance program for families that are struggling. Does she like rice? My mom used to mix cooked white rice with plumped raisins and a bit of brown sugar and butter. I loved...
  16. Thanks for your post UKGail, I find it very interesting because I've suffered from hives since I was in my teens, and haven't broken out in hives once since I went gluten-free. (Interestingly, I'd already figured out that anti-histimines were the source of the hives.) If I take an over the counter cold medication, I'll break out in welts all over my chest...
  17. Hi Confused, welcome. I'm sorry you've had such a rough time. Have you explored other food allergies/intolerances? There could be something else bugging your system and causing you problems. Some people have figured out what's getting them by an elimination diet and keeping a food diary. If you Google that, you'll get a more precise explanation...
  18. You definitely did all the right things. I admire that! Keep us posted...best wishes to you.
  19. I don't feel qualified to answer your question. But were you following a low carb diet before your celiac panel and biopsy because you somehow figured out that you felt better? Or were you eating the equivalent of six pieces of wheat bread a day? You might find this article interesting... https://www.celiac.com/articles/979/1/Challenging-the-Gluten...
  20. Oops, I still don't do soy, just to clarify.
  21. Hi Suzi, I've explored this topic quite a bit, because I was referred to a rheumy about six months after going gluten-free. I've been to multiple specialists and had more blood draws than I can believe. I showed up positive for Mixed Connective Tissue Disease based on my blood test results about six months after going gluten-free. I don't think...
  22. I'm not the OP, but I think this might be the recipe referred to... I haven't tried it yet, and I haven't tried Chebe's for strombolli (on their website) but it looks good! And lol, we had nachos for dinner again tonight. Tonight we lingered at the neighbor's and DP requested them. Poor dear neighbor was the victim of a smash and grab. ...
  23. Due to circumstances beyond my control (a neighbor stopped by and lingered forever), we had to have a microwave meal tonight. It was nachos made with thick corn chips and leftovers from superbowl Sunday (gluten-free chili, pulled pork), grated cheddar and asiago cheese and some salsa with sour cream. We loved them!
  24. If you haven't had your vitamin D level and calcium level checked recently, it may be something to request at your next doctor's appointment.
  25. We had fried potatoes (leftovers from slow cooked corn beef), a fried over easy egg, and chili. It was scrumptious!
