ARCHIVED Affy Tapples Carmel Apples
MelindaLee posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is the responce I received when asking about the gluten free possibility with this product. I did note on the label there were a couple items specifically noted (gluten free) by the ingredient. Here is there letter. (I did just ask yesterday...despite the date on the letter) Consumers with Sensitivity to Gluten Guidelines August 22, 2005 ... -
I've been gluten free for abut 6 weeks. I glutened myself (stupid story) last week. I noticed the neurological symptoms more than the GI ones. I had both, but the dizziness, fogginess, and tingling was worse than anything else. I agree with everyone else...just be careful. If someone told me 8 weeks ago I had celiacs I never would have believed them...

I want to say Welcome, Debbie. You are in a very tough spot. Are you involved with any local churches or religeous org? I would appeal there, as well. I get very frustrated to see how hard our country makes if those people who are working so hard to keep their family going. Not sure what else I can say to make things any better...but welcome!

ARCHIVED Chocolate Birthday Cake
MelindaLee replied to travelrjoe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Search the 36 hour chocolate chip cookies in the search forum above....AWESOME! I have found that replacing the flours in recipes which have fruits or vegetables in them (ie zucchini or carrot) works without much issue. Even my DH who doesn't like much of the gluten-free stuff likes those. I found a recipe for my own mix..(can't remember where, bummer... -
ARCHIVED Newbie To Gluten Free
MelindaLee replied to teresa1960's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! I have only been gluten-free for 6 weeks now. But I have found amazing changes and feel great. I was diagnosed by a fluke..luckily for me, so I wasn't terrible sick like many are before they find out why. Because of that, I had a quick turn around and have notices many symptoms I thought were old age go away...arthritis, dizziness, hands falling... -
ARCHIVED I Am Really Need Help With My Symptoms
MelindaLee replied to laughingchicklol's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am not all that familiar with all of this...but what I have heard many of the very intelligent informed people here say is that milk/lactose can interfer with the healing of your intestines. I am sure some of them will chime in. They are much more experienced with this. I am one of the fortunate ones who found out on a fluke and didn't have your horrible... -
ARCHIVED Suggestion For Dinner Out With The Family
MelindaLee posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just reading the thread about weddings...and am wondering about suggestions with going to a buffet with the family. I am relatively new to this and feel comfortable when I get to choose where we go or cook myself. BUT...my SIL is choosing where we go as my FIL wants a "Chicken Dinner" place. Perhaps this is regional, but Sunday Fried Chicken dinner... -
I bought it last week. My DD has had it EVERY morning on toast!

Sounds like you have a confirmed case of being allergic to work Just Kidding....more seriously here....are you eating protiens the night before? It reminds me of when I was pregnant. If I ate protiens in the evening...before bed, I was less nauseous the next day. I'm not sure about your other symptoms as I am new too. I found Kind bars, and really love...

ARCHIVED Rudi's
MelindaLee replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know it was my own stupidity that let my guard down. I was just so excited to see Rudi's after people talked of it being good...especially at $3.99 a loaf. At that price I should have been suspicious! I just was so excited I didn't do my normal label checking. I felt like I had the beginning of the flu today, but am feeling better tonight. Most of... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain After Diagnosis
MelindaLee replied to mogal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In addition to what GFinDC said, see if it is related to tomatoes or any of the other fruits in the nightshade family. I have often heard of that being related to athritis or joint issues. For me, after 3 weeks, my joint pain was gone and I went off my arthritis medication. But, if I mess up and get gluten, I notice it right away in my joint (among other... -

ARCHIVED Rudi's
MelindaLee replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went back to the store and they had the Rudi's (which was the organic wheat) with an gluten free label. I let the manager know. I haven't found many stores around her that keep gluten free and organic seperate. I grabbed a box of Van's waffels the other day by accident that weren't the Free ones. I notice that before I ate it though. (I have been expecting... -
ARCHIVED Trying Not To Get Discouraged
MelindaLee replied to Sarah B's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All Yoplait yougurts I have found are gluten free. I found Kind bars, which taste really good, they are mostly nuts and fruit. I found Old Wisconsin sausage sticks that say gluten free right on the package. Hang in there...it will get easier! (I 2nd the idea to check with your disability office, they need to help you) -
ARCHIVED Rudi's
MelindaLee replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rudis definately has a gluten free bread, right??? I was excited to see Rudis next to the Udis, and it was $3.99. I was excited because I remembered reading this thread. But, after eating a slice (very good), I was talking to my friend and we were looking for the iron content as she is very anemic. IT WAS NOT GLUTEN FREE. It was an organic wheat bread... -

ARCHIVED Sorry To Be A Pain...trying To Get Organized
MelindaLee replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Hershey a few weeks ago. They were very friendly and gave me a list of what they considered to be safe as it was on a dedicated line. I don't know that their labels help much, but I don't buy much candy. Their baking chocolates and semisweet chocolate chips were all on the safe list. The rep I spoke with was very friendly even when I asked about... -

ARCHIVED Bette Hagman's Basic Featherlight Rice Bread Help?
MelindaLee replied to waterlily-'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am not famiiar with this recipe, but I had made some banana nut muffins, and they were so fabulous, I made a 2nd batch. The 2nd batch was not good. When I went to put it in the pan it was "slimmy" for lack of a better word...more like "goop". It also rose super high, and then fell. The interior texture was wet compared to the 1st ones. The biggest... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Ideas
MelindaLee replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just found Old Wisconsin Turkey Snack Sticks. They were individually packaged and specifically said "gluten free". I don't know if those would work for you or not, as it seems you might have other limitations. But, a thought!
