  1. This made me laugh. I used to make such grandiose, anxiety and depression-driven proclamations like, "I would literally cut off one of my limbs if it would make me feel better!" But now I walk by a bakery and I'm like, "Ooh! Cake!" Then there's some sort of whining about how I can't have cake like that anymore. And everyone around me just rolls...
  2. That's how it happened to me too. I was a lifelong milk drinker and dairy eater. I thought I'd dodged a bullet when I was first diagnosed because I was fine with milk. About two months gluten-free, I started getting awful cramps after just the tiniest bit of milk. As soon as I cut it out, the cramping went away. One day I was fine, the next I couldn't tolerate...
  3. I don't get abdominal pain or cramping from gluten.
  4. Yep. I developed lactose intolerance after going gluten-free too. It's pretty common. Some get the ability to digest lactose back, some don't. Drop dairy for a few months and then test it. I cut out dairy and the pain immediately went away. I was disappointed but there are plenty of alternatives: I drink almond milk (delicious), eat coconut milk yogurt...
  5. What kind of teas? Black tea can be constipating in some.
  6. It was my symptom too for a couple years before I was diagnosed. But I think there were some other issues going on there too
  7. Maybe I'm biased because I was adopted as an infant but try to remember that pregnancy isn't the only way to have a baby. Don't rush into something because of a ticking clock.
  8. Eep. Well, I'm only five months out so it's difficult to say exactly what ALL my symptoms are but generally: anxiety (generalized with panic attacks), depression, extreme stress, constipation, bloating, migraines, hormonal issues, acid reflux, insomnia, exhaustion, weight gain (60 pounds), keratosis pilaris, seborrhea on scalp, mild eczema, hair loss. Honestly...
  9. March came in like a lion. Waiting impatiently for the lamb.

  10. The added fiber part is tough since companies generally use the things we can't eat to add fiber. Try looking at cereals with flax for a fiber boost.
  11. And yet more snow.

  12. My scan was clean thankfully. I spent my life drinking enough milk to choke a cow so I'm guessing that helped. Like the others said, it's easy: you just lie on the table for a few minutes while they scan you. I got to listen to the tech tell me about her weekend plans (visiting her grandchildren and finishing a knitting project, if you're interested). My...
  13. I think General Mills is in the process of transitioning a lot of their cereals to gluten-free. They've been pulling out gluten ingredients and slowly moving different cereals to their own facilities. I spoke to the company about Kix last month and they said they had just moved it to its own production facility. I'm guessing because they want to put the ...
  14. Have you ever seen the documentary Super Size Me? That cured my fast food cravings long before I ever found out I was Celiac. Just driving by a McDonald's reminds me of that movie and turns my stomach.
  15. If you don't have a problem with gluten, going gluten-free won't sensitize you to it. If you do have a problem, you shouldn't be eating it anyway. As far as the endoscopy, the doctor needs to take at least 6 biopsies from different locations (damage can be patchy) and then the samples are looked at under a microscope. You're correct in that he's looking...
  16. False positives are extremely rare. Like astronomically rare. And the Celiac tests aren't going to tell you if you have non-Celiac gluten intolerance. As far as gluten-free "stuff" being expensive. It doesn't need to be. If you eat naturally gluten-free foods: meat, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts; you're not paying more. I spend less on food now...
  17. Don't worry about whining. This is the place to do it as we're all in the same boat. I've sulked plenty. And I still sulk sometimes but, as time goes on, it becomes less of a dominating aspect of your life. But don't stress about the endoscopy. It's much more pleasant (and less time consuming) than a dental cleaning.
  18. Does Ensure have dairy in it? Lactose intolerance is common in Celiacs
  19. I agree that you definitely need a new doctor. And I was another Celiac with big weight gain (60 pounds overweight). Less than 5 months gluten-free and the 60 pounds is gone.
  20. Snowing again. Sigh.

  21. Continuing with my contacting of major cosmetic and skincare companies regarding their gluten-free status, here's CoverGirl's reply (February 24, 2011). As always, check with the company for updated information but, in this case, it's probably best to just steer clear. Hello XXX, Thanks for contacting CoverGirl. We know Celiac is a serious disease...
  22. I hide things too. I have a few cans of cashews, peanuts, and almonds stashed in the back of my sock drawer where hungry eyes and gluteny fingers can't find them.
  23. I've been contacting different cosmetic and skincare type companies for information on their gluten-free status — I made a thread about Eucerin a few days ago — and I'll share what I find in case anyone is doing a search. If you are finding this information through a search and some time has passed, it's best to verify this information with the company. ...
  24. That's like telling someone they're "pretty much pregnant." Demand clarification and copies of those reports.
