ARCHIVED Oh, My Dog, These gluten-free Products Are Expensive!
shopgirl replied to Wise's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only gluten-free products I eat with any regularity are Chex ($2-3/box) and Larabars (10/$1). Everything else is a once in awhile treat. My food budget has actually gone down since I was diagnosed with Celiac since I'm not buying as many crackers, snacks, etc.. I'm saving money. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Use Pond's Dry Skin Cream?
shopgirl replied to shopgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you, Molly! Just wanted to the reassurance. -
ARCHIVED UConn Debuts Gluten-free Food Menu - Celiac.com
shopgirl replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Yeah, good for them. Go Huskies. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Use Pond's Dry Skin Cream?
shopgirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found an old post here with a response from Pond's saying they don't add gluten but they can't guarantee gluten-free, etc. but I was wondering if anyone used it (or any Pond's cream) without issue. I've become momentarily paranoid. -
ARCHIVED Is Lots Of Gas Normal?
shopgirl replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unfortunately, that's impossible to answer. Some people see remarkable changes in days, some people take months, others take a couple years. -
ARCHIVED Whole Family With Celiac?
shopgirl replied to kellythomas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac Disease is genetic so, yes, it's possible. Ethnicity doesn't really play into it. Celiac can be found everywhere. It's not a disease that particularly cares about your nationality. And even if you test negative, you might find that you and your family has a positive dietary response. -
ARCHIVED Are There Protein Bars Without Oats Or Gluten?
shopgirl replied to onehappylady's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup. And if you don't like the strong date flavor some of them have, try the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The dates are undetectable. Just a delicious peanut buttery flavor. Nom. -
ARCHIVED Dates: Do They Make You Sick?
shopgirl replied to T.H.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think there are any Larabars without dates in them. That's what holds them together. Some have a less date-y taste than the others but it's still the main ingredient. -
Ouch, sorry about that. How about this then: when I get too "Woe is me," my mother steps in and says, "Be glad you don't have cancer." I've spent plenty of time bemoaning being Celiac and I'm only a few months in but I do try to force myself to get a little perspective and be glad that my problems are solved my diet and not much worse treatments. ...

I'd be thinking I was a pretty smart (gluten-free) cookie and I should stick to my diet.
-
Ranting pity parties are always allowed here, I think. Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, I look around here at how limited some of my fellow Celiacs are and feel glad that I only have to eliminate gluten and not a laundry list of common foods.

ARCHIVED Breathe Right Advanced Nasal Strips
shopgirl replied to Trymester's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Honestly, I'd be surprised if they had gluten in them or if it would be an issue since you shouldn't have them in your mouth. I used them for awhile a couple years ago and they worked a little but the glue made my nose itch and I eventually got indentations on the sides of my nose where they adhered. Took a couple weeks for it to go away once I stopped... -
ARCHIVED Raisins And Dates Are Making Me Sick Suddenly...anyone Know Why?
shopgirl replied to Beckers68's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Larabars are tested by the company for gluten content. Not every single bar but they are tested. -
Sorry, I must be 12 years old tonight but "mixing bowels" made me giggle. I replaced: anything wooden, plastic, or metal. It was painful but I reasoned that it had to be done.

ARCHIVED Anyone Using Korres Products?
shopgirl replied to asaldana's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Korres website seems pretty methodical about listing ingredients for every product. That seems like the obvious place to start. Someone recommended the Yogurt Moisturizer to me but it has wheat in it as listed on their site. -
Yay! Congratulations! Awesome, isn't it? How the weight can just fall off after cutting out the gluten?

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oreo Balls
shopgirl replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
These sound horribly good. You had me at "Oreo Balls," to be honest. I didn't even have to open up the thread. -
ARCHIVED Christmas Goodies... Aiaiaiaiai
shopgirl replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just appreciate the thought and find someone else to give it to. The people who really know me would never give me that stuff. I'm sure I've given my share of misguided gifts throughout life. -
ARCHIVED Hello? Are You Even Listening?
shopgirl replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Holiday stress, maybe? Someone kept me waiting twenty minutes yesterday and I flipped out because I have a list of half a dozen things to bake and/or cook, presents to wrap, errands to run, etcetera, etcetera. Maybe mom is just a little stressed out because of the holidays. Don't give up on her though. -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerances That Cause Diarrhea Other Than Gluten
shopgirl replied to catarific's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Can't any kind of food intolerance theoretically cause diarrhea? There aren't really any set symptoms for an intolerance. Just look how variable Celiac symptoms can be. Some get D, some get C, and some get neither. I met someone earlier this year who couldn't eat anything that had red food coloring in it. It can be frustratingly random when you're trying... -
Congratulations! What a great present for the holidays. I keep my pots and pans in the dishwasher...with my cookbooks.

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination From Laundry?
shopgirl replied to Trymester's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think you have anything to worry about with laundry. -
ARCHIVED Are My Symptoms Test-Worthy?
shopgirl replied to churchlady's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, Celiac can't be seen with the naked eye. It's seen in a lab under a microscope. Silly doctors. -
ARCHIVED Neg Blood Test
shopgirl replied to lorid888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A false negative after six weeks gluten-free isn't surprising. You have your diagnosis in the positive biopsy. Your doctor is wrong. Time to go gluten-free. Welcome. -
ARCHIVED A Wondering Medical Student
shopgirl replied to BlueMerlin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can take longer than 2 weeks to feel better. I felt great for a couple weeks and then dipped down again. I assumed it was other intolerances but cutting out other foods didn't do anything. I found I just needed more time. I feel a little better every day
