ARCHIVED Bladder Problems And Gluten Sensitivity?
julie5914 replied to aurora's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Bladder problems are assiciated with candida. I know some doctors don't think candida is a real thing, but I know someone who has it and was diagnosed by a GI doc. They saw the yeast during endoscopy (esophagus). -
ARCHIVED My Daughter -21yrs Old
julie5914 replied to Lisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So has she still not been tested for celiac? I would really for push for this - that sounds like me before diagnosis, except I didn't have headaches every day. Should especially get tested since you have it. -
ARCHIVED What's Your Story?
julie5914 replied to jmarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a cyst rupture in 2000 and was then put on iron pills for anemia. The iron pills caused all sorts of digestive distress, landing me in the ER. I had digestive problems with anemia ever since. When I went to doc with abdominal pain (a GYN because I suspected another cyst), he said it was my colon and dx IBS. I just suffered, trying to eat more and more... -
ARCHIVED Could I Please Have Some Help With My Results?
julie5914 replied to Nikki~Nathan&Danielle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ye, the Ttg is very specific, so if it's positive, he has it, whether it's weak or not. If your doctor is ok without biopsy, I would be happy and go with that. He needs to be 100% gluten free is he's going to feel better. Read up and start being super strict about it. Not a crumb. Check everything that touches his skin as well. -
ARCHIVED Flu Shots
julie5914 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I will probably get the FluMist. I haven't had the flu since '98, but if I go to the doctor at all during flu season, they basically make me take it. I don't think I would die without it, but I don't think it would hurt either. -
The Today show's Web site has a link to an article on Celiac in its header. Here is the home page: Open Original Shared Link And here is the article: Open Original Shared Link From what I can tell, his information is right on.

ARCHIVED Pain With Meat
julie5914 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have just started the specific carb diet, and so I had a bunless hamburger for dinner with some carrots and tomatoes. I am in pain about the same as gluten. It feel like there is a rock in my pipes. I have related this pain to meat a while back, but I was thinking being gluten free would make me able to digest it again. Apparently there is still something... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter -21yrs Old
julie5914 replied to Lisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I recently started seeing an osteopathic doctor - I hope he can help you by looking at the whole picture. The best thing is that he likely will not stop looking for the cause of those headaches just after receiving one lab test neg. He may call for an MRI, which will likely be ok but it would ease your mind a bit I am sure. If he is a DO like mine... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests, Ana Levels
julie5914 replied to pst424's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I recently had an ANA test come back as 1:160 speckled. Because I do not have 4 of the listed characteristics of lupus, my doc decided to watch and wait. I will just have it rechecked in a while. I was showing some mild signs of Reynaud's at the time of testing, which my doc prescribed blood pressure medicine for. After a while on the meds though, I decided... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Called Me A Hypochondriac
julie5914 replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, it really sucks that when you have one really important thing on your mind that you are reading about and want to talk about, you can't. But some people like to take better care of their cars and things then their own bodies. I think they're crazy personally! You'll take your car in every 3,000 miles and work and research on how to fix up your house... -
ARCHIVED Newbie! - How Long Until I Feel Better?
julie5914 replied to Puckster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt better almost immediately, but my symptoms came back because because I was still going out to eat and was still eating foods with "natural flavor" and "modified food starch" without contacting the manufacturer. Don't be in denial - you have to be extremely careful and it is best not to go out to eat until you have a few months of healing, and then... -
ARCHIVED Reliv? (a Nutritional Food)
julie5914 replied to nettiebeads's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I doubt that they would knowingly lie to you just to sell their product - they probably believe what they are saying both because of testimonials about the product and little knowledge about celiac as an autoimmune disease and not an allergy. It may very well make people feel better, but I would check and see what studies may have been done on it by skeptics... -
A coupla questions - has anyone tried making the yogurt using the oven light method? They mean leave the oven temp off and just leave the light on with the yogurt in there for 24 hours right? Second one - which wines are dry? Merlot is, right? Wine, cheese, fruit and nuts sounds like enough to sustain me everyday for a week Yum. I'm sure it will get...

ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Poop For A Minute.
julie5914 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That doesn't happen to me, but I have definitely heard of a cold sore/gluten connection. It's one of the symptoms. I think I am gluten free, but I am seeing my food in my poop still :&. It's gross. Like a whole potato peel yesterday. -
Yeah, the show usually covers people who go from doctor to doctor, knowing something is wrong but being unsatisfied with what doctors were telling them, essentially not knowing what was wrong. (Sound familiar?) They usually cover a few different people's stories (who have finallly found out what is wrong) in an hour episode. Last time we watched this, my...

ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
julie5914 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I started bingeing in middle school, turned anorexic in high school (dropped to 100lbs at 5'4") and then went back to bingeing. Only coming to college and being on a meal plan with no car did it become absolutely impossible to continue with these eating disorders. I also snapped out of the anorexia by being told it would sharply decrease my ability to... -
At the recommendation of so many of you, I have just bought the Breaking the Vicious Cycle book and plan to start the diet this Sunday (I'm waiting beause we're on a tight grocery budget and need to finish this week's menu before I can buy more food). Geez, was it so expensive for everone else?? I was thinking something like $6 and it was $22! I hope it...

Has anyone been checked for this or been found to have it? It's symptoms are so close to celiac it seems, so it is hard to tell the difference between having just celiac and maybe having both. Both are autoimmune, both cause digestive distress, lower body pain and fatigue/weakness. With adrenal problems though, you have trouble regulating your own temperature...

Hey Monica, I am still in the boat with you, and I am 99% positive I have no gluten in my diet. I think after we get through this week's menu I am trying the specific carb diet. Anything to feel better. My midsection and lower half are growing exponentially, and I don't even get to eat cake to have a reason why! Here's hoping we both feel better soon.

ARCHIVED What Do I Have?
julie5914 replied to gagliat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My personal opinon is that a DO or someone who practices functional medicine would be good for you. They look at the whole picture and look for ice bergs instead of just treating the tips of them. Especially if the celiac blood panel does not answer your questions as more investigation will be needed. I would not let this rest until you find out what is going... -
ARCHIVED Just Starting The Tests
julie5914 replied to mistresninos's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the food stuffing is more a psychological reaction to malabsorption, which would result from Celiac. The endoscopy is done to cofirm by some doctors, but if the blood results include the Ttg and EMA tests and are obviously positive, many will take that as enough for diagnose and forego the endoscopy, especially in young patients. I am not sure... -
ARCHIVED Muscle Weakness?
julie5914 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I am 4 months gluten-free and am still sore. I have started taking it a lot easier and now do not wake up so sore, but my legs and butt still can't seem to handle much. Shopping will do me in in no time. I think it will be better soon though. I am about to start some supplements - I had pretty extensive damage, so I do not think I am absorbing everything... -
ARCHIVED Feet And Legs Fall Asleep After Bms.
julie5914 replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My feet and hands fall asleep at strange times too, but I have never associated it with BMs. If they are going totally numb then maybe you have something going on with your spine and a nerve. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Remember...
julie5914 replied to AmandaD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't have it run before going gluten-free - I only had the EMA. But I am 4 months gluten-free and my ttg was 20 (not sure what the range was, but that was a blood sample). They just told me over the phone to be more diligent about keeping gluten out. Rachel, I am not sure if my number was still 20 just because I am still getting out of my body or if it... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Bad Headaches?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, these ones that I get at night don't last for several days or even hours though. They last about 45 minutes and there is no lying down and resting. Definitely no sleeping. Usually it is writhing and grabbing my head and moaning. Those things make me think it is cluster (at least the ones at night). But clusters are called clusters because you go through...
