ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
eatmeat4good replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Recently diagnosed Hashimoto's with DH. Have been avoiding iodine strictly for 3 months to heal DH. When going gluten free did not heal the sores, I went iodine free and started healing. Then the diagnosis of Hashimoto's. Hmmmm Not started on meds yet. Seeing Endocrinologist next week. Hope he has heard of Celiac/DH but I'm not holding me breath. ... -
ARCHIVED Dermatitis / Celiac Sprue
eatmeat4good replied to chrissygirl0668's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I had to limit iodine strictly for 3 months before I got any lesions healing...I had been strictly gluten free for 3 months with no healing but a little less stinging. Once I read about the iodine connection it made all the difference for me. You may be different, but any iodized salt, fish or shellfish, would cause a reaction in the skin sores just like... -
ARCHIVED Sulfa Allergy = No Dapsone?
eatmeat4good replied to JenR's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There is a high rate of false negatives with the skin biopsy according to Dr. Peter Green in Celiac, a Hidden Epidemic. Also if you are eating gluten free, you are likely to test negative. My sores only healed AFTER I gave up all iodine in addition to gluten for 3 full months. I don't know what to say about Hashimoto's, I just tested with elevated antibodies... -
Most health food stores carry Udi's I think.

ARCHIVED Rash Looking Thing Around Daughter's Mouth
eatmeat4good replied to kyga2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link It could be a B vitamin deficiency causing skin problems at the corner of the mouth. Or it could be chapped lips. Just scroll down to the vitamin Riboflavin in this link and you will see the description. If you supplement the B vitamins you want to take a B complex not just Riboflavin for example...since the B's all work... -
Welcome and congratulations for saving your own life! I wish I had figured it out at 40 like you did! Having said that, the first mistakes I made were eating in restaurants and thinking I could order "gluten free." I couldn't. Kissing someone who has eaten Gluten WILL make you sick, it's sad, but true. Lipstick either has wheat germ oil or CC issues and can...

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests Negative And Chronic Hives
eatmeat4good replied to nicolebeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just have to make another comment. Your symptoms are worse in the evening...after you have been eating gluten during the day. My DH activated in the evenings too. Horrible itching and burning and yet in the mornings I seemed to have some reprieve. If it is DH you should ask for a skin biopsy and have them take it next to the lesion on clear skin. That is... -
ARCHIVED Cookies
eatmeat4good replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Never found one I would buy again....ever. I eat a Snickers if I need a sweet and don't want to bake. Bake Chocolate chip cookies once a week....so they are a staple...right after the protein and vitamins! Hope you find a cookie you like. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests Negative And Chronic Hives
eatmeat4good replied to nicolebeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I feel for you. I know it is miserable. I use antihistamines too. In fact one of the articles I read said Chronic hives respond best to Certazine morning and night. Though the directions say only take it once a day. I thought you might want to ask your Dr. about that in case you want to try. Zyrtec, Certrazine works better for me than Claritin. I hope you... -
Your symptoms are consistent with Hashimoto's disease which is very common in Celiacs. Have you had your thyroid tested? My TSH was normal for years, but after I read about Hashimoto's I asked for the antibodies test and the antibodies were elevated so I was positive...I had severe weight gain, depression, fatigue, coarse and thinning hair. Google the symptoms...

ARCHIVED gluten-free 3 Weeks; Will It Affect Endo?
eatmeat4good replied to hikermom4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Two weeks off of gluten is iffy as to whether the results will be accurate. I have read on here many times that people have been gluten free for months and then did a 3 month return to eating gluten so they could be properly tested. When they post their results that they were miserable all three months and STILL tested negative on the endoscopy and biopsy... -
That is what Dr. Peter Green says in his book Celiac the Hidden Epidemic. It is supposedly the same as intestinal biopsy. Negative tests are likely if you are not eating gluten. The archives here on DH are full of testimony by people who tested negative for DH because they had stopped eating gluten, however, it still took months to heal their DH

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests Negative And Chronic Hives
eatmeat4good replied to nicolebeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Interesting you should post this. I have hives too. Salicylic acid intolerance and thyroid disease can contribute to chronic hives. Elimination is the most effective tx. My hives react really bad to benzoates which are in almost all sodas and juice drinks. Food coloring activates them too. Yes, it... -
ARCHIVED Are Dove Dark Choc Roasted Almonds gluten-free?
eatmeat4good replied to ECUmom3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh good! I was going to ask you if you got sick, because those sound really good and I wanna eat some! Thank you for posting! -
ARCHIVED Coping Mechanisms?
eatmeat4good replied to charliesmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it is a gluten reaction, it isn't something he can control. His environment needs to be clear of gluten. The psychiatrist and therapist tried to teach me "coping skills" too for my severe anxiety and profound depression. Nothing ever worked. If the brain is negatively effected by gluten, it is neurological symptoms and not the kind you can Will away with... -
ARCHIVED Who Knew This Was All Gluten-Related!
eatmeat4good replied to Ladylene's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad you found your answer! Keep persevering too. There are a lot of people on here who are sensitive to rice. Don't know if it is the glucose, carbs, or CC issues, but it pops up here rather frequently. Welcome to the rest of your life! -
ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis Testing
eatmeat4good replied to DenaCP's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You have to be eating gluten...just like the intestinal biopsy. If you have been off of gluten you could test negative and it could still be DH. This is according to Dr. Peter Green in his book Celiac, The Hidden Epidemic. The biopsy also needs to be taken from clear skin directly adjacent to the lesion. If the lesion itself is biopsied you will not test... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosised With Celiac's
eatmeat4good replied to cahill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is so good to hear that you finally have answers. I so hope you will feel good now and continue to heal. My heart breaks every time I read one of these "I was sick for 30 or 40 years"...because I was too. But it is so good to know that you are going to be OK. Here's to your pereseverance!!! -
ARCHIVED Sulfa Allergy = No Dapsone?
eatmeat4good replied to JenR's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I was never sure if I was allergic to Sulpha or not but I always got really nauseous. Being desperate for relief from DH I tried Dapsone in Jan this year for two weeks. I suddenly broke out in hot red pinpoint dots all over my whole body. I immediately stopped the drug and took benedryl then a short course of Prednisone. I then got really serious about limiting... -
ARCHIVED Almond Flour Bread Recipe
eatmeat4good replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love all of her recipes! She says you can't use Bob's Red Mill Almond meal in place of almond flour. But I break the rules...if I am out of NutsOnline Almond flour I sub Bob's Red Mill. Might change the consistency a little, but not enough to bother me. Almond meal and almond flour are the same thing, but Bob's is just a little coarser than most. Works... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Need Some Feedback!
eatmeat4good replied to Danio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too am skinny with a big belly. I find the more protein I eat, the less belly I have. Protein is very healing for us Celiacs. I eat carbs like potatoes and rice very sparingly. Shocked to find I have less belly at 47 with only 7 months gluten free than I have had in my entire life. Also starting to feel stomach muscles growing and I ain't even doin any... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue..really?
eatmeat4good replied to staci002's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, they diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and left me to rot on my couch without ever testing anything else. I was so neuro-brain fogged I couldn't think what tests to ask for. It is supposed to be the LAST diagnosis not the first. These people on Celiac.com saved my life.
