  1. It is a terrible struggle internally to come to the realization that you have to follow food restrictions. Having one is hard, but multiple is harder. No one goes from zero to ten...we all have a learning curve. I think you are a wonderful friend for cooking carefully for her. She has to come to terms with her food intolerances and she shares them with...
  2. Maybe ask the Dr. to test your vitamin levels?
  3. Jack, Did you go gluten free on your own? Your mom is bringing you to the Dr. because you are feeling badly now or because she wants to see if you have gluten intolerance? There is no test for the sensitivity or intolerance. The symptoms can be the same though. I want to hug you. I am sorry your mom said other people have to eat too. That is...
  4. Etta! You rock!!! Look what you are doing? That is so cool! I'm so happy for your friend! My sister has a friend who has Hashimoto's...because I have been talking to my sis about my thyroid and my Celiac, she told her friend with Hashimoto's to get tested for Celiac because it is very common. This is one person at a time....but this place really...
  5. I'm glad I didn't see it I prolly would have cried. It has saved my life. If people believe him...oh my god....
  6. I'd call the Dr. and report all of these symptoms immediately. Then find out when you will get the test results. Are they going to do an endoscopy? It has to be so hard watching her suffer like that. Poor thing. You are a good mom. Advocate for your child by letting the Dr. know the seriousness of her reaction on adding wheat back. Try to get the testing...
  7. Yes, many many here have tried testing but it was negative. Tried the diet and got rid of all their symptoms. Don't lose hope. Testing is only part of the answer. There is a high rate of false negatives and you are still in control of what you eat. This is when you try the gluten free diet very strictly for yourself. You may be gluten intolerant or...
  8. The casing is the material linking sausages together. It can be made of animal intestines or plant cellulose. You would have to ask to read the labels of the spices they put in the sausages. There is a chance they might be gluten free if it is just a meat shop with no gluten products. Then you would just have to check the spices and ingredients. I use...
  9. Takala!! That is exactly what I was suspecting too. I just had not read this happening. Some people want to be gluten free but don't want to do all of the exhausting work of reading labels and yet....the gluten free stamp on the bottle or box is no kind of guarantee. My sister only buys things labelled "gluten free". Thinking that she doesn't have...
  10. Yes you can ferment out the lactose. If you google Specific Carbohydrate Diet there is a recipe for how to make 24 hr. yogurt. And to the question are these all prescription? I think the probiotics and digestive enzymes are over the counter but the medication I mentioned-Promethazine was a prescription.
  11. Now you go on the gluten free diet very stricly and be careful of cross contamination to see if you are one of those who were a false negative on the test. Or to see if you are gluten intolerant. The tests have like what 30% false negative rate? I wouldn't pay any attention to that. Time to start listening to your body. Eliminate gluten and see if it helps...
  12. Mushroom, May I ask why you gave up caffeine? With such a limited diet anyway, I wanna have a coke and a coffee whenever I want to. Did you get jittery or you just think it is better for you? With everything else I've been giving up that one will take me kicking and screaming down the block. But if there is a reason to give up caffeine, I would consider...
  13. And the french fry story...scary. I let my son eat those.
  14. That is an amazing story Mushroom. I keep hoping I will get this all down and can dance on with my life. But it ain't gonna be that easy is it? So glad you guys share these stories.
  15. I was just thinking the other day, I wonder if Shauna would just make me a list of what SHE uses in HER kitchen and bathroom and then I won't have to figure out how sensitive I am, I will just assume I am super sensitive like she is so my DH can finally frigging heal!!! So your Dr. and nutritionist are not alone in wanting that list from you...

    ARCHIVED Biopsy Normal

Many people use a dishwasher so that shouldn't be a problem, but with pots and pans used for cooking gluten you have to clean before they go into the dishwasher. (In my opinion) The medication yes, if one of your capsules has gluten in it and you take it every day, Wa La, sick every day. Also if your family isn't gluten free and you kiss them before they...
  17. This place gives me hope too- I just figured this gluten thing out 6 months ago at 47. It was years of being sick for me too. I hover around here obsessively as if my very recovery depends upon it and as if I have to read again and again that yes, gluten really can and did do all those things to your body. I'm glad to know all of you who were diagnosed later...
  18. Yes, the internal angst, depression, sense of loss and despair for no real reason are a clear sign I got gluten. It comes on fast and I wanna be alone and I get snippy with people. Thank god I know now that it was gluten. I thought I was just a you know what. But I'm really very nice and pleasant unless there are gliadin antibodies in my brain. It really...
  19. Sugar is really addicting. Blood sugar goes up and you feel good and then it drops too low and you feel you need/want more candy. It is a vicious cycle. The only way to interrupt it is to make yourself eat a certain amount of protein and vegetables every day at intervals to keep your blood sugar stable. Your body thinks it is starving, so it sends an alarm...
  20. Yes, it could be related. If you have DH/Celiac then you would have accumulated antibodies in the skin and when the autoimmune reaction is high enough the rash develops. It is particularly intense at night. Severely itchy and painful and gluten is the cause. Or gluten plus iodine. Iodine alone as Rosetapper said can keep the antibodies reacting so the rash...
  21. Kurzemiete, Oh my gosh! That is a very beautiful song! Thank you. Thanks for liking my quote, seems I do better as a carnivore than anything else.
  22. Yes, well, you see all that medication I was using for pain and "fibromyalgia" well, it was causing 50% of my problem and the other 50% was gluten. It was elimination of medication first, then fruits, then perfumes and basically all chemicals and preservatives. I knew about SA first. About a year later I realized I only felt good if I only ate...
  23. Why did I give up dairy and eggs? I don't know...I ask myself every day!I have the skin form of Celiac called Dermatitis Herpetiformis and it has been very slow healing. I'm at 6 months now and very nearly healed. I didn't think I was intolerant of dairy only because I like cream in my coffee. And I love cheese. I don't seem to get stomach problems...
  24. Hi and Welcome! Yes, this could be the "healing process". You didn't have this when you were eating gluten because all or some of your villi had been "mowed off" so to speak. Now they are growing back. Yes, my stomach was really uncomfortable for a long time when I first went gluten free. It was very disconcerting how much rumbling and hurting was...

    ARCHIVED Can

You might be intolerant of eggs and/or dairy. Might need to do an elimination diet. Gluten is one problem, but the other intolerances cause the same symptoms you describe. I got rid of soy, but didn't want to eliminate eggs and dairy. When I finally did...5 months later....I started getting even better.
