  1. It took a few weeks to be sure of what I was doing with my food. Just the anxiety of it all, and not wanting to make a mistake. Made a few anyway. As for snacks, I'm never without nuts in my purse, just in case. That said, I last got glutened handing out food to little ones in the family at a gathering. Thought I washed my hands, but got it somehow...
  2. I know the world has yet to learn of this disease, but your Dr.'s response is inappropriate. All family members should be tested. It is in the medical literature. I also don't understand the gastro not wanting to test until age 3! If I were you I'd try again to find other Dr.'s who WILL test. Keep jumping Dr.'s until you find one that understands...
  3. Oh my God, I just read the other post about Kix not being gluten free due to containing oats which are invariably cross contaminated. Scratch that off the list. I am sorry about that- I hope you didn't get them. Yikes. I gotta tell my sister not to give them to her kids too! The oat content makes them risky.
  4. You describe the neurological symptoms very well. I had that dark, distant, "I'm not really here" feeling for 7 years. It was awful. I had no idea it could be related to gluten. I was on the anti-depressants and anti-anxiety to no avail. Prior to this setting in, I was very mentally sharp and socially interactive. When I got really sick, it was a complete...
  5. I'm very impressed with your husband. He is very astute. You should keep him. And gluten free!
  6. That is what gluten does. Flu-like symptoms...big time. Once it is out of your system for good, then any tiny amount can cause a severe reaction for some people. There are lots of posts on here about it. One is titled What are your glutened symptoms? The same symptoms happen to a lot of people. The exact same thing happened to me when I first went...
  7. That was one of my first symptoms. Maddeningly painful and tight calves. It effected the way I walked. Thankfully it has gone away, either with gluten free eating or because of the vitamin supplements.
  8. One of us needs to get a dam medical degree! I keep reading, "Find a Dermatologist knowledgable about Celiac and Dermatitis Herpetiformis." I don't have enough money to do that! I have interviewed Dr.'s too. By the time I'm done with the third question their eyebrows are raised and they say something stupid like: "So how can I help you today." ...
  9. If your Dr. listens, I would tell her all of it just like you said it above! It is a puzzle. Could have been CC or glutening, but you never know. It is worth following up with whatever you can. Sometimes you just can't know if you have been glutened. But if it is something else, you will definitely need to know. Good luck at the Dr.
  10. Yes, you could have Celiac disease. DH can be anywhere on the body and it can present in many forms. I was reading the really old posts on here about DH last night. There were a few people who had their DH primarily in their ears....some had it in their nose. They had been diagnosed with eczema but only when they went gluten free were they able...
  11. I'm only 4 months into gluten free, but spent the last 7 years of my life unable to walk due to "fibromyalgia", migraine headaches, depression, anxiety, and many more things that Rheumatologists, Dermatologists, and Internists could not diagnose. I don't think you have to follow up with Dr.'s at this point. You have done what you can to try to find the...
  12. I just read a post yesterday about Cadbury creme eggs causing someone else a similar glutened reaction. Then I read about Hersheys having caused reactions similar to CC for several others. Just wanted to let you know others have had it too.
  13. I am in awe of you for all you have done for your children. I cannot add anything to what Mushroom has given you and she is very much one of our experts. I do hope things get better for you soon. But you sure do persevere! Your children are lucky to have such a strong woman for their mother.
  14. Yes! Snickers and Cheetos are gluten free! When I learned that I knew I would be able to survive! I only use white rice. You can just sprinkle it with a little water before you nuke it and it should be fine. But we don't even do that. You are probably right, the longer you freeze it, the drier it gets. But nothing lasts that long around here...
  15. My son's asthma, depression, lethargy, and hay fever all went away when he went gluten free. It could be why your husband wants to drink...to feel better...but certainly the alcohol with gluten would make things worse. I hope you can get him to try gluten free.
  16. I bought a box of gluten free o's like Cheerios at Aldi's. I just gave it to my sister for her little ones yesterday, so I don't have the exact name. But it was the only gluten free cereal they carried and it looked exactly like Cheerio's. Kix are gluten free!! Chex has gluten free cereals. Though some might be tougher for little ones than others....
  17. If you don't mind the sugar- you can use the regular Toll House recipe and substitute 4 cups of almond flour for the 2 1/2 cups of flour. It worked perfectly. Then I bought Elana Amsterdams Almond flour cookbook and like her recipe much better than the toll house. Honey, I didn't cook at all and wasn't organized at all for the the last 7 years....
  18. I have a teen and there has to be food ready. I fry a bunch of burgers and put them in a baggie ready to microwave with cheese and eat with Udi's bread. I also use gluten free chicken coating to do a bunch of chicken tenders and keep them in a baggie as well. Either of these can be cut up and added to nacho's with cheese and salsa. It's pretty...
  19. I have 2 degrees and had a 4.0 in college. For 7 years I was tripping on gluten. Told the Dr.'s I had lost 80% of my cognitive ability. They just looked at me blankly. I thought I was crazy and would be forever. Depression, anxiety, frustration, falling, can't think, spacey, nauseous, took me 3 hours to do one sinkful of dishes at one point. I couldn...
  20. Gosh YES again! I was so puffy and swollen. Had no idea why, it was severe. Plus I was often dehydrated in spite of drinking. It is definitely related to gluten. All of it went away. After a few months of gluten free life I am no longer puffy or swollen, lost a lot of inflammation and weight. And a shoe size too!
  21. I'm several months into this and I'm still pissed off that it took 7 years of complete and total self-destruction and a bunch of ridiculous diagnoses to finally realize the answer was at my fingertips!!??!! I'm glad I found it, but now several months into this, I wanna know where do I go to get the last 7 years of my life back? Yeah, you are not alone...
  22. It depends how bad you want the testing and diagnosis. All of your symptoms seem to say you need to quit gluten yesterday. I had the swollen face too for years. Just now 5 months into gluten free is all of my swelling and inflammation calming down and my face looks normal. If you are gonna test, do it quickly so you can go gluten free and see...
  23. Michelle, He buried me. But your first sentence cleared it up. We can't know in the United States, how much gluten we are eating, if we choose to eat gluten free products. Is that about it? Whole foods for me then. I only understood the words arbitrary plus voluntary equals cross contamination for those who are sensitive. ...
  24. Hopeful1950- You pose excellent questions. I wonder too. I avoid iodine and hope to until my sores heal, but I sure don't want to cause another problem. I have been avoiding eggs for a long time thinking I'm reacting to them but not sure why. Today I had no time and was hungry and ate 2 eggs. Tonight my sores hurt. It cannot be gluten. I...
