  1. What do you want to make? I have a friend who uses a gluten free all purpose flour for making the Toll house recip on the back of the bag of Nestle Chocolate chips.
  2. With friends (family) like that, who needs enemies? I wouldn't go. I would also not discuss my allergies with them anymore, they are obviously not concerned about you. I would say, I'm sorry I won't be able to be there. Benjamin Franklin said, "Fish and relatives stink after 3 days." In your case, it's before you even get there. Take...

    ARCHIVED Test Results

I think you just did the elimination/challenge thing with the chocolate cake. But if you want to do it again, you can do it as often as you like. If you are Celiac or gluten intolerant, you will get the same result. You will feel like crap. I think you have your answer. But if you want more medical confirmation, you should keep eating it and get tested...
  4. Since you are here, you must be suspecting gluten could be the problem. If you don't want to do the invasive tests, you could try going gluten free and see if it helps. If you want to really know what is going on inside you, you will need to do the tests. You still may not know for sure as the tests are not 100% accurate. I decided not to have...
  5. It would certainly help you with that situation. People often take it for jet lag for that very reason. It is non-addicting. No hangover effect. Just mildly relaxes the brain and you can sleep. It is over the counter. It comes in many different milligram sizes. I started with 3 mg. a night and went up to 5 mg. It is perfectly harmless according...
  6. Just to encourage you on the weight thing. I was normal thin most of my life but when I started getting sick I gained weight to 180 lbs. in a matter of months. I stayed that way and was unable to lose for several years. I went gluten free 5 months ago. I lost weight rapidly and in a few months was back to 120 which I thought was my normal weight. I...
  7. If you have DH, it is worth knowing that many with it do not test positive on blood tests or through intestinal biopsy, yet those with DH are extremely sensitive to even trace amounts of gluten through cross contamination. IF you want a diagnosis from a Dr.,I would recommend you get the sores biopsied next to a lesion since that is where the IgA antibodies...
  8. Try Melatonin. I use 5 mg. a night and it really works. There is no hangover effect. It helps your body with other stuff too. Read up on it if you haven't, it is really fascinating. It is said to help stimulate growth hormone which is exactly what we need when we are healing. I have read that people eventually get used to it and have to...
  9. IF Celiac is what it is, you will feel better and there won't be years of damage that could have been prevented. Going gluten free should cause you to feel a big difference in the anxiety and depression for no reason. Many of us have had that symtom and it was ignored, medicated, or we were told to go to therapy. Because your Dr. is very astute, you...
  10. Nuts, if you like them are an almost perfect food with the combination of good fat and protein and a moderate amount of carbs. I have been eating nuts every day for two weeks and have noticed a definite improvement in the energy level. I also have less inflammation and have noticed improvements in my hair and skin. AND I have not gained weight which I was...
  11. Lola, My son is 16 also. We didn't do testing, but he had been sleeping every moment not in school, had severe asthma and a stumbling gait and leg pain. Irritability and moodiness and depression. It all cleared up in a few days gluten free and returned on gluten challenge. I tried to get him to try gluten free a few weeks after I did. He gave me ...
  12. One other thought on this is that possibly a secondary intolerance to Nightshades has surfaced. This includes, tomato, potato, tobacco and eggplant and all peppers. Do these other things bother him? Tobacco is in the Nightshade family. Hopefully this is not the case, but if the gluten free tobacco makes him ill, you might want to consider it.
  13. BJ's Gluten Free Pizza is an excellent choice for your first gluten free restaurant meal. I order it to go for my son about twice a month. The crust is really good and I take a few bites, but I find the tomato sauce is a little too sweet. Last time I got myself a whole pizza and ordered it without sauce. It was excellent. I ate the whole thing. And didn...
  14. Livestrong.com has lists of foods containing No Iodine and Low Iodine. I'm starting to eliminate more foods due to iodine content. Thank you all for saying that my post was well-written. It means a lot to me to be able to help someone even a little bit. I was so seriously ill with Celiac that I have spent most of the last 5 years in bed or...
  15. You asked about sea salt. It says "Does not provide the necessary iodide" on the label....however, it causes my DH to flare, and it contains iodine, according to the article on DH at the home page of this cite, and according to Dr. Greene in Celiac the Hidden Epidemic, sea salt should be avoided as well as anything from the sea, due to iodine content....
  16. You are very welcome! I do hope being gluten free helps you very quickly. I too, had acne all my life. Then DH. The acne cleared up quickly, the DH is very slow. Hopefully you will get relief very fast Jennywenny!
  17. I've had DH for years, but didn't know what it was. It was treated for many things but never responded until I found this site and went gluten free. The research I have read says that gluten and iodine both activate the IgA antibodies that are collected in the skin. Therefore only avoiding gluten is not necessarily enough for healing and recovery. ...
  18. Thanks a million! I'm sure I will love it!
  19. Yes. You can have Celiac with no symptoms at all. Or you can have Neurological, Dermatological and Gastrointestinal problems. You have the gastrointestinal version of Celiac. It can be one, two or no symptoms. Also, testing can miss some Celiacs or those who are Gluten Intolerant. The most telling thing in your post, is that it went away...
  20. Canyon Bakehouse is carried here in the Gluten Free Mall! I might have to try it! Thanks for your post that is so great to hear!
  21. Oh! I responded to you earlier. Look under your profile and find My Content or Topics and it will pull up what you have written. I buy in bulk from NutsOnline.com. It is a great source for gluten free stuff, dried fruit, nuts and chocolate covered stuff. Certified Gluten Free and reasonably priced. Hope they ship to Canada for you!
  22. Some people feel worse before they start to feel better. Sometimes it is cross contamination you are not aware of. Sometimes it is eating too many gluten free products that are processed. Your stomach needs time to heal. Eat mostly meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruits and nuts and see if you feel better. Do have a separate toaster? Scratched...
  23. I eat cheese....ssshhh don't tell anyone. I can't stop. Also I eat all kinds of nuts/seeds. I get them at NutsOnline.com They also have Certified Gluten Free stuff and I buy Almond flour and Coconut flour from them. You are right to be concerned about nuts. The ones I have bought in the grocery stores made me ill. I have read something about...
  24. I am so sorry about the DH activation. I am coming to the conclusion that any mistake will make me pay for about 6 weeks. I used a teensy tinsy itty bit of sea salt on my food one time (like 10 grains of salt)and it reactivated the sores from the last time I ate shellfish in January. It sucks. They constantly seem to be healing then activate...
  25. Welcome! That is absolutely hilarious that your spell check changes Celiac to Celibate! Sometimes feels that way too! Especially when you realise that kissing people who eat gluten can make you sick. It is true. I didn't believe it, but doing my own experiment proved it to be true. Just so's you know. Heinz is fine. You can keep your ketchup...
